Clemson sophomore WR Sammy Watkins has been cleared to practice and play in Saturday's game against Georgia Tech.

Watkins missed last weekend's game with an abdominal injury and junior DeAndre Hopkins stepped up in a big way, just as he did in the first two games of this season. Still, the Tigers' offense is undoubtedly better with Watkins in the lineup, but Georgia Tech deploys a solid corner in senior Rod Sweeting, who will draw a tough matchup with whatever receiver he is assigned.

Miami sophomore WR Ahmmon Richards (hamstring) practiced on Tuesday.

Baby steps, but Richards looks like he is closing in on making his season debut against Duke on Friday. He has been on the mend from a severe hamstring pull since the tail-end of August camp. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound sophomore dressed and warmed up in advance of Saturday's win over Toledo, but did not play in that contest. The Canes have looked sharp on offense in their short two-game sample this season. Richards' return would just add another weapon for HC Mark Richt's squad.

USC sophomore WR Deontay Burnett (undisclosed) did not practice on Tuesday.

This is one to monitor in the lead-up to Friday's game in Pullman against Washington State. Just what Burnett is dealing with has not been disclosed as of yet, but any injury that forces him to miss Friday's contest would be problematic for an offense that has already had its fair share of ups-and-downs this season. Burnett (6'0/170) leads with the Trojans with a 33-462-5 receiving line in four games and has surpassed 100 yards in three of four contests.

Uncommitted five-star 2018 G Jamaree Salyer will take advantage of the new early signing period by inking with a program on December 20.

Salyer (6'4/328) has name-checked Georgia and Clemson as his two leaders at this juncture. Beyond the Bulldogs and Tigers, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Stanford are also contenders for Rivals' No. 10 overall prospect in the 2018 class. The Atlanta native plans on taking an official visit to Clemson, though not Georgia -- mostly because he has already checked out Athens on multiple occasions due to proximity. Salyer --who is particularly good at the point of attack -- is expected to work at either guard or potentially center after he joins his program of choice.

LSU senior S Ed Paris (knee) will miss the remainder of the season.

Paris suffered a significant knee injury in practice last week and subsequently underwent surgery. HC Ed Orgeron is "hopeful" that Paris will be granted a medical redshirt. Paris was a rotational DB for the Tigers.

Maryland freshman QB Kasim Hill (ACL) will miss the remainder of the season.

Hill was carted off the field after suffering an ACL tear during Saturday's game against Central Florida. This is a devastating turn of event for the Terps, who had already lost Week 1 starter Tyrell Pigrome to a torn ACL in the opener against Texas. Max Bortenschlager replaced Hill on Saturday and will likely start Saturday against Minnesota.

Rutgers coach Chris Ash believes redshirt senior WR Janarion Grant (leg) will be able to return for Saturday's game against Ohio State.

Asked by a reporter if he is concerned that Grant might not be available against the Buckeyes, Ash responded: "As of right now, no." That isn't to say that Grant is out of the woods yet. NJ.com believes he'll be a game-time decision again. Grant was a late scratch from last week's game against Nebraska.

Washington State head coach Mike Leach believes USC redshirt sophomore QB Sam Darnold will be an NFL-caliber passer, but not "today."

Rather than go into further specifics about Darnold, however, Leach spent 400 words explaining why freshmen or 18-year-olds should not be allowed to enter the NFL, and that the discussion of the possibility is outrageous. "No, there ain't nothing professional about you," Leach said of the generic 18-year-old. "Those guys would get crushed." Sam Darnold will turn 21-years-old in June. USC faces Washington State this week.

NFL.com draft expert Daniel Jeremiah believes that Penn State junior RB Saquon Barkley is a better draft prospect than Ezekiel Elliot was.

Well, that's certainly high praise. Jeremiah called Barkley "the most dominant player" in college football, and then dropped the bomb that he agreed with an NFL executive he spoke with in saying that he was a better prospect than Elliot was. "I don't know that I've seen a better combination of size, power, elusiveness and explosiveness," Jeremiah said. "A lot of times you'll see guys with 2, or maybe 3, of those qualities. Barkley has all four." This is obviously lofty praise, but anyone who has seen the running back play this year would struggle to disagree that he's the best running back prospect in this draft. He is a candidate to go in the first five picks this April.

Nevada junior QB Ty Gangi will start this week against Fresno State.

Kaymen Cureton is now the No. 2 quarterback, with David Cornwell demoted to QB3. Cornwell finally got a chance to seize the job last week against Washington State, but he threw three interceptions (13-of-25 for 97 yards), prompting the move back to Gangi, who started the first two games. In those contests, Gangi completed 47.3-percent of his passes for 476 yards with a 4/2 TD/INT rate. Nevada's new Air Raid system hasn't taken off. The Wolf Pack rank No. 115 in pass efficiency and are one of eight winless teams in the country.

Ole Miss coach Matt Luke said sophomore WR A.J. Brown (knee) will be a game-time decision for Saturday's game against Alabama.

Brown sustained the knee injury nine days ago in the loss to Cal. Fortunately for the star receiver, the Rebels were on bye last week. Brown leads the SEC in receiving yards with 389.
