LSU beat writer Glenn Guilbeau suggests that the team should move senior Alex Hurst back to his more natural home of RT over his current spot at LT.

Guilbeau believes senior Josh Dworaczyk would then move to left tackle. We are in complete agreement with Guilbeau here, since Hurst is barely athletic enough to stay on the right side due to slow feet and stiff hips. Dworaczyk, a former guard, may not be much better, but it is worth a shot. Problem is, Hurst has missed time recently due to injuries, a common theme along the offensive line.

Virginia RB Taquan Mizzell rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown on nine carries in Saturday's NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

Fantastic work by Mizzell on Saturday, as the 5-foot-10, 185-pounder averaged 10.66 YPC for the day. This past season, the Virginia standout rushed for 940 yards (5.0 YPC) and five touchdowns while catching 52 passes for 404 yards and two additional scores. He hauled in a total of 195 passes during his Cavaliers career and should he land at the pro level this spring, it is that kind of receiving ability which would make him a palatable third-down option for a needy team. He might have to find his way as a street free agent, though. Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline does not see Mizzell being drafted at this juncture.

Louisiana-Lafayette RB Elijah McGuire rushed for 42 yards and a touchdown on seven carries in Saturday's East-West Shrine Game.

Points were an endangered species through the first three quarters, as the East and West squads were tied at 3-3 entering the fourth quarter. That's when McGuire finally (finally) broke through, scampering in for a touchdown from 18 yards out to boost the West team to a 10-3 advantage. That would stand as the final. Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline called the 5-foot-11, 208-pounder one of the "big winners" of the Shrine practice week, noting that "if a team needs a situational ball carrier that’s a legitimate threat catching the ball in the short or long field they can look to McGuire in the middle rounds."

Michigan graduate QB Shane Morris transferred to Central Michigan.

In terms of transfer destinations, this one is about as logical as they come. Not only will Morris not have to move out of state to link up with his new program, he enters a juicy situation in terms of potential playing time, as the Chips will be replacing the departed Cooper Rush this offseason. The 6-foot-3, 204-pound Morris failed to win the starting gig at any point during his time at Michigan and attempted a mere five passes this past season.

Texas received a verbal commitment from four-star 2017 JUCO LB Gary Johnson.

Johnson took an official visit to Texas last weekend, one which helped to sway him over to HC Tom Herman's side. The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder will have three seasons to play two at Texas. Rivals ranks Johnson as the No. 4 JUCO prospect in the 2017 class, while the ESPN JC50 notes that former Alabama pledge is "a premium LB prospect with top-level speed, strength and explosiveness." Johnson is the ninth player to commit to Texas since Herman took over for Charlie Strong.

FAU junior LB Azeez Al-Shaair underwent shoulder surgery.

Tough little setback for HC Lane Kiffin as he settles in with the Owls. Al-Shaair needed the shoulder procedure in order to repair an injury which nagged him for much of the 2016 season. His rehab is expected to keep him out of spring practice, but he should be able to rock/roll come the start of August camp. Even despite being less-than-100% for much of the campaign, the 6-foot-2, 220-pounder was plenty productive. He led FAU with 112 tackles (11.0 for loss) over the course of 12 games played. In addition, Al-Shaair registered two sacks and an interception.

Virginia Tech received a verbal commitment from four-star 2017 S Devon Hunter.

The Hokies were gunning hard for Hunter's pledge. Barring a change of heart, looks like they got their man. Said the 6-foot-1, 204-pounder, "I’ve built a great relationship with coach Scott, the safeties coach. He’s helped me through a lot of different things, showed me where I would fit in best on defense, where he sees me playing, and where I fit into the depth chart." He ranks as Rivals' No. 47 overall prospect in the 2017 class and opted to commit to Virginia Tech over Florida. During the Nike Football Ratings Championship over the summer, he clocked a 4.42-second 40-yard dash. Assuming there's a smooth transition to collegiate ball, Hunter has the requisite speed, physicality and football smarts to be an immediate contributor for the Hokies in 2017.

Auburn hired Arizona State OC Chip Lindsey to serve in the same capacity.

Lindsey replaces Rhett Lashlee, who accepted the offensive-coordinating position at UConn earlier this month. In a statement, Auburn HC Gus Malzahn said, "Chip is a man of integrity and character who will fit well within our staff. He has great knowledge and enthusiasm for the game and is a rising star in this profession." As to the last point of Malzahn's statement, Lindsey has been hot in the head-coaching rumor mill each of the past two seasons (connected with jobs to Southern Miss and Georgia State). It wouldn't be a surprise to see him land a lead position next offseason. For now, though, he will work to help Baylor transfer QB Jarrett Stidham transform a Auburn offense which often lacked passing juice under Lashlee. To wit, the Tigers ranked 112th in passing offense this past season. Lindsey previously worked with Auburn as offensive analyst during the 2013 season.

Middle Tennessee hired former Maryland DC Scott Shafer to serve in the same capacity.

Shafer has held several high-profile jobs in recent years. He served as head coach for Syracuse from 2013-2014, then linked up with Maryland as defensive coordinator in 2015. Last April, he resigned from that position, citing personal reasons. Shafer did not coach during the 2016 season. With the Blue Raiders, he steps in for the recently terminated Tyrone Nix. He vows that under his watchful eye, MTSU "will put a physical, attacking, multiple defense on the field that will excel in fundamentals and tackling."

Tennessee promoted TE coach Larry Scott to offensive coordinator.

Scott acted as Miami's interim head coach following the team's firing of Al Golden last season. In January of 2016, Tennessee brought him on to coach up the Volunteers' tight ends. He now earns himself quite the promotion, as he will take on offensive-coordinating duties in the wake of Mike DeBord's decision to scoot on over for the OC gig at Indiana. Scott's going to have his work cut out for him in his new position, as Tennessee faces a ton of offensive turnover heading into the meat of the offseason.

Notre Dame redshirt junior RB Tarean Folston declared for the NFL Draft.

Folston said in late August that 2016 would be last season at Notre Dame. Despite his down year behind sophomore Josh Adams -- 344 yards and two scores on 77 carries -- he's sticking to that plan. Folston is entering a stacked running back class, but he does have some tools. In a recent seven-round mock draft, Bleacher Report's Matt Miller projected the 5-foot-9, 214-pound Folston as a fifth-rounder. Folston, who missed essentially the entire 2015 season with a torn ACL sustained in the opener, finishes his collegiate career with 1,712 yards and 11 rushing scores on a 5.0 yard per carry average.

Michigan RB De'Veon Smith has been invited to the Senior Bowl.

The event was in need of a running back after Wayne Gallman declined the invitation. We think Elijah McGuire is the best running back at the Shrine Game, but scouts might want a further look at Smith, who is more of a pure power runner.
