Oregon junior DB Avery Patterson insinuated that the Ducks defensive gameplan for Saturday's game against USC revolves around stopping the run.

"Their run game helps out their passing game a lot," Patterson said. "If they get their run game going like they did last year it could cause some problems for us." The Trojans rushed for 137 yards in their meeting last season, but more importantly a potent running attack opens up the play action passing game.

Los Angeles is "looking like a solid front-runner" for the 2015 NFL Draft, according to NFL.com's Gil Brandt.

Brandt is very connected to the actual event and helps them decide which prospects should be invited to attend every year. The league has previously stated the event will be held in either Chicago or L.A. in 2015, and some have even speculated the draft could be split into to cities and extended another day, totaling four.

Oklahoma is "very confident" junior (or redshirt sophomore) WR Dorial Green-Beckham will be awarded immediate eligibility, according to The Oklahoman.

"Green-Beckham’s appeal will center around the fact that he was never charged in the incident that ultimately got him kicked off Missouri’s football team," according to beat writer Jason Kersey. This was the same incident where DGB reportedly broke into a home and pushed a woman down stairs. The Oklahoman adds Oklahoma will pursue a "run-off" waiver, which refers to players that were removed from programs for reasons "beyond their control." Oklahoma has not filed their waiver appeal at this time, as they are waiting for more paperwork from Missouri.

Miami suspended redshirt freshman QB Kevin Olsen for at least one game after he failed a drug test.

Olsen, the younger brother of NFL tight end Greg, redshirted during his first season. Miami's quarterback situation is a bit of a mess right now, with Ryan Williams still recovering from injury and Olsen missing at least one game. Former BYU and Kansas quarterback Jake Heaps is the odds on favorite to open the season as the starter.

2015 high school QB recruit Deondre Francois committed to FSU.

The Seminoles are now up to three quarterback commits for the 2015 season. Francois joins De'Andre Johnson and Kai Locksley to form the trio. The former is a four-star "dual-threat" recruit. All three are not locked into their commitments at this time, and a big part of their decision will likely hinge on Jameis Winston's choice to enter the 2015 NFL Draft or stay another season.

Michigan senior QB Devin Gardner has gained 16 pounds and currently weighs 220.

Per Bruce Feldman, Gardner says offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier's system is "a lot more simple" than Al Borges'. 2013's scheme was partially to blame for Gardner taking 34 sacks last season. "Last year, 'hots' weren't really a big deal, but now it's a really big deal," Gardner added. There are great flashes in the quarterback's game, but he has a long way to go.

Georgia redshirt junior WR Malcolm Mitchell re-injured his right knee and must undergo arthroscopic surgery.

No timetable is set for his return at this time. Mitchell was apparently running routes at the time of the injury, and the operation is to address a cartilage issue. Georgia does expect a full recovery, however. Coaches and beat writers were glowing about Mitchell's preseason camp prior to the 2013 season, but he suffered a major injury while celebrating a touchdown in the school's first game of the season. Mitchell does his best work in space thanks to his shifty, quick movements.

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler says Nebraska senior RB Ameer Abdullah "has the skill-set to have a Warrick Dunn-type career at the next level."

Abdullah was a first-team All-Big Ten selection and a Doak Walker Award semifinalist last season, scampering for 1,690 yards, the highest yardage total at Nebraska since Ahman Green in 1997. "Abdullah has a leaner-than-ideal upper and lower body build, but is much tougher than he looks and lowers his pads at the point of attack," Brugler wrote. "He accelerates quickly and runs with his feet on fire, controlling his momentum well to make sharp cuts and elude in the open field. Abdullah has flexible ankles and runs low to the ground with springs in his calves to make explosive jump cuts without losing speed. He has active feet and sees the field well to make proper reads and pick through the line of scrimmage without any hesitation and always appears two steps ahead." For a more topical comparison, the analyst calls Abdullah "a better Andre Ellington."

Former Alabama redshirt junior RB Dee Hart will transfer to Colorado State, according to Chris Hayes.

Hart reportedly graduated in June, so he will be eligible to play immediately. Colorado State head coach Jim McElwain was a member of Alabama's staff when the school signed Hart back in 2011. Hart's tenure with the Crimson Tide included two serious knee injuries, a brief switch to corner, and an off-field arrest for giving false information and possession of marijuana. He amassed 43 carries for 166 yards and a touchdown with Alabama.

Texas A&M redshirt senior DE Gavin Stansbury will transfer to Houston and is eligible to play immediately.

Stansbury, A&M's defensive MVP last season, was apparently dismissed from the Aggies program on July 21. He was arrested for misdemeanor assault in April. Texas A&M must improve their defense, but multiple starters have been dismissed since the spring. Kevin Sumlin will attempt to upgrade through recruiting.

Grantland's Robert Mays believes Oregon redshirt junior QB Marcus Mariota "needs to show improvement as a dropback passer."

When discussing the decision teams will have between Mariota and Jameis Winston, Mays writes "it really depends on what you’re looking for... Mariota is a dual threat, closer to Colin Kaepernick — less polished, but possibly more terrifying." In the past, Oregon quarterbacks have been runners first and lacked awareness in the pocket. We think pocket patience and poise are the most underappreciated aspects to Mariota's game. He wins inside and outside of the pocket.

Oklahoma has yet to file their waiver appeal for junior (or redshirt sophomore) WR Dorial Green-Beckham.

Oklahoma "officials are waiting on one last bit of paperwork from Missouri," Emig writes. "Green-Beckham’s former school has been cooperative with his new one generally, but now must help once more." We doubt DGB will be awarded immediate eligibility, but crazier things have happened. There is a chance the receiver never plays a down for the Sooners if he is forced to sit out the 2014 season. Green-Beckham will be able to practice with the Sooners no matter what.
