West Virginia senior WR Tavon Austin accounted for 572 all-purpose yards Saturday against Oklahoma.

Austin's production was split between 344 rushing yards (including two touchdowns), 82 receiving yards, and 146 yards on kick returns. We, along with others, have been saying that Austin is an absolute joystick in space, but his time at running back spotlighted his versatility even more. The easy comparison is to Percy Harvin, but Austin needs to display the same kind of surprising strength Harvin plays with.

Clemson associate AD Bert Henderson was found dead on Tuesday.

Henderson, 60, did not show up for work on Monday and his family subsequently reported him missing. On Tuesday, authorities found his body in a wooded area about a mile from his home in Easley, South Carolina. A cause of death has not been disclosed. He had been with Clemson since 1978, when he worked as an athletic trainer.

CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd reports that former Cincinnati HC Tommy Tuberville is considering running for the Alabama governorship in 2018.

"Everybody wants non-politicians now. Eighty-percent of it is name recognition," a member of Tuberville's camp told Dodd. The 62-year-old stepped down as Cincinnati's head coach at the beginning of December following a 4-8 campaign. While his most recent coaching stop was with the Bearcats, he has the requisite Alabama roots, too, having posted an 85-40 record during his nine years at Auburn (1999-2008). Dodd relays that a statewide phone poll is currently being conducted to assess the feasibility of a political run. Tuberville's decision as to whether or not to run figures to be made within the next few weeks.

Kansas redshirt senior QB Montell Cozart will transfer.

We assume Cozart is leaving as a graduate, but neither his farewell message to fans nor early news stories covering it indicated whether he's chucked a mortarboard skyward yet. Cozart is the third Jayhawk QB to leave the program this offseason, following Ryan Willis and Deondre Ford. That trio had been bypassed on the depth chart by Carter Stanley and former Washington State QB Peyton Bender, a JUCO signee. Cozart started 18 games -- generally ineffectively -- for the Jayhawks over the past four seasons.

247 Sports reports that transferring Clemson graduate DT Scott Pagano has narrowed his list of finalists to Arkansas, Cal, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas.

Pagano graduated in December, making him immediately eligible to play with one year of eligibility remaining. The 6-foot-4, 295-pounder bench presses 470 pounds and reps 225 pounds 38 times. CBS Sports lists Pagano as one of the top 10 defensive tackles in the 2018 NFL Draft Class.

An NFC scout says Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes "definitely has the tools to be a No. 1."

"He's big and athletic with big-time arm talent," the scout said. "I know his numbers are inflated but he can make all of the throws. I think the kid can play. ... I like him a lot!" The 6-foot-3, 230-pound gunslinger threw for over 11,000 yards with a 93/29 TD/INT ratio across three seasons. Because he's coming from an Air Raid offense, even Mahomes' staunchest supporters see him as a developmental prospect in need of a long-term development plan. But Mahomes does have support, but inside and outside of the NFL. Ian Rapoport told the Setting The Edge podcast recently that several evaluators have pegged Mahomes as their "favorite quarterback" in the NFL Draft.

The NCAA awarded Florida State redshirt sophomore S Derwin James a medical redshirt waiver for the 2016 season.

After suffering a season-ending meniscus tear in Week 2 of last season, James will now enter the 2017 season as a redshirt sophomore instead of a junior. This waiver is mostly a contingency plan -- James isn't expected to actually use this fifth season of eligibility. "He’s not staying for a fifth year anyway," HC Jimbo Fisher said with a smile. "You hope he stays for a fourth." FSU’s spring game is scheduled for April 8. It is not yet known if James will be healthy enough to play in it.

Per Bovada, USC redshirt sophomore QB Sam Darnold is now the favorite to win the 2017 Heisman Trophy.

Darnold opened at 9/1 late last month, behind JT Barrett (6/1), Lamar Jackson (7/1) and Baker Mayfield (11/2). But Darnold surged to the head of the pack in Bovada's most recent odds, released Wednesday. Now, Jackson, the 2016 winner, is tied with 2016 finalist Mayfield for second at 13/2 odds. Alabama running back Bo Scarborough (9/1) and Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts (10/1) round out the top five. Barrett's odds fell to 12/1.

Joe Mixon will participate in Oklahoma's pro day on March 8.

The date is a quick turnaround for NFL evaluators, since the Combine ends on March 6. This is Mixon's best opportunity to impress evaluators during the draft process, since he was not invited to the Combine. Expect Mixon to have a ton of team visits and private workouts during the process.

Clemson QB Deshaun Watson plans to do participate in every part of the NFL Combine.

"Run, throw, meetings, everything," Watson said. Watson declined an invitation to the Senior Bowl, and we expect every other healthy quarterback to join him in fully participating in Indianapolis. The quarterbacks will work out on Saturday, March 4.

Washington WR John Ross told the MMQB's Emily Kaplan he recently ran a 4.30 laser-timed forty while training for the NFL Combine.

That is fast. "You could argue he’s just an exceptional slot guy," one NFL evaluator told Kaplan. "But smart offenses will figure out ways to incorporate him everywhere." Ross did create big plays from anywhere, including as a kickoff returner. The obvious comparison is to Desean Jackson. Ross' medical history on both knees will be crucial, plus he has a shoulder surgery scheduled, but he is still ridiculously explosive after those injuries and surgeries in 2016.

Miami sophomore S Cedrick Wright will transfer.

Wright, a native of Dade County, appeared in nine games as a true freshman last season, mostly on special teams. Rated as a four-star safety prospect by ESPN in the class of 2016, Wright picked the Hurricanes Miami over offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Ohio State and Tennessee, among others. Wright will sit the 2017 season if he transfers to another FBS school. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
