Arkansas senior RB Dennis Johnson rushed for 30 yards on six carries, along with 48 receiving yards on five catches, Friday against LSU.

Johnson nearly helped the Razorbacks score early in the first quarter but fumbled while fighting for extra yardage. This has been the senior's biggest issue throughout his career, and nothing will get him benched faster int he NFL than turning the ball over. However, we think Johnson is the best passing down running back prospect in this class.

San Francisco 49ers GM John Lynch believes this year's quarterback crop is getting a bad rap.

"As I started to study these guys, I thought they were getting a bad rap," Lynch said. "They each have reasons why maybe people think they shouldn't go (No.) 2. In Trubisky's case, he's only started 13 games, but you turn on the tape with each of them, and they have redeeming qualities that make you say, 'Wow, this guy would be a part of it,' so we're evaluating them and we'll continue to do so." The 49ers hold the No. 2 overall pick and are, of course, desperate for quarterback help. Most believe they'll wait to get it. Lynch is a known fan of Kizer's. "One of the first things Kyle and I talked about (is) you've got to have a franchise quarterback. We know that, we're in search of it, and we're looking at every avenue to try and get that," Lynch added.

The 49ers worked out Clemson QB Deshaun Watson last week.

San Francisco GM John Lynch also attended the North Carolina and Notre Dame pro days last week to check out QBs Mitchell Trubisky and DeShone Kizer. Lynch previously fawned over Kizer at the NFL Scouting Combine. Since Myles Garrett is a near lock to go No. 1 overall, the 49ers would have their pick of signal-calling prospects at No. 2 if they chose to go that direction. Not many industry types, however, are mocking a quarterback to the 49ers in the first round.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports that UNC QB Mitchell Trubisky is expected to attend the Browns' local prospects day.

The Cleveland Plain-Dealer reported last week that the Browns had scheduled Trubisky for a private workout, and now we know the details of his trip. Usually, teams must travel to the prospect's respective campus if they want a private workout, but Cleveland lucked out because Trubisky is an Ohio native, and thus able to conduct a workout at their facilities without the club being forced to burn one of their official pre-Draft visit slots. Cleveland owns the Nos. 1 and 12 overall picks.

Chip Brown of Horns Digest reports that Texas will pursue Notre Dame senior QB Malik Zaire as a graduate transfer.

Texas whiffed in its chase of LSU quarterback Brandon Harris -- Harris chose North Carolina -- and will now turn its attention to another marquee grad transfer. Horns HC Tom Herman has expressed interest in adding a veteran signal-caller to compete with sophomore Shane Buechele (the incumbent starter) and true freshman Sam Ehlinger. According to reports, Zaire was considering Wisconsin, Baylor and North Carolina immediately after he announced he'd leave Notre Dame. Since then, both Baylor and UNC have signed grad transfer quarterbacks.

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell and general manager Bob Quinn privately worked out Arizona State WR Tim White.

At the Sun Devils' pro day event earlier this month, White clocked a 4.52s forty and posted a 38.5-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-10 broad. "He should receive late round consideration and nicely projects as a slot receiver/return specialist at the next level," wrote Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline.

Dolphins beat writer Armando Salguero spoke with one person in the organization who said there is a "zero percent chance" Miami selects Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon in the upcoming draft.

Expect a number of similar statements to leak out in the coming weeks, as teams already know if Mixon will be on or off their board. The talented running back will visit a large amount of teams, and even more will travel to Oklahoma for private sessions, in the hopes of getting to know Mixon on a better level.

Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly was cleared by doctors to complete a pro day throwing session of 35-45 plays.

Kelly is working back from an ACL injury, which kept him out of the Senior Bowl. Kelly also had his NFL Combine invite rescinded, and Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman recently said Kelly's "baggage" is "considerably worse than what has been reported," but elected to not expand on that statement. Many respected evaluators have plenty of positive things to say about Kelly's game, including Matt Waldman.

ESPN's Louis Riddick believes Michigan S Jabrill Peppers "will be a great pro."

Riddick calls the questions about Peppers' deep field play "mis-guided." Peppers might be the most divisive prospect in the entire class, and much of that is due to his utilization at Michigan. Peppers acted like a linebacker with the Wolverines, occupying the short and intermediate areas of the field, rather than as a safety who would roam intermediate and deeper portions. Plus, Peppers in dropping into coverage from the linebacker spot versus safety. Peppers will have plenty of fans in NFL circles.

Michigan edge rusher Taco Charlton will visit the Cowboys, Saints, Bucs and Dolphins, according to ESPN's Michael Rothstein.

Charlton's draft projection is difficult to peg. Some see him as a top 15 talent, some outside of the first round and even suggest he should be a closed end or move inside. Chandler Jones seems to be the common comparison for those optimistic about Taco's projection. He tested in the 42nd percentile at the NFL Combine among edge rushers.

South Florida redshirt senior DB Hassan Childs was injured in a shooting on Saturday night.

In a brief statement, South Florida said, "The shooting incident involving USF student-athlete Hassan Childs that occurred overnight took place off campus. Childs is currently in stable condition. No one else was injured in the incident. With respect for an ongoing investigation we have no further information to share at this time." That is the extent of the information out there at this juncture, but more details figure to filter in over the coming days. During the 2016 season, the 6-foot-1, 175-pounder registered 16 tackles across eight games played.

Michigan LB/S Jabrill Peppers indicated that one NFL team views him as an offense player.

Peppers provided a convenient breakdown of how he's being seen by the NFL, with MLive.com's Nick Baumgardner passing along that per the Michigan standout, 30 teams like him as a safety, one as a linebacker and one as an offensive player. The overwhelming odds are that he will be drafted as a safety, though he figures to be used in a variety of capacities once he hits an NFL chessboard.
