ESPN's Mel Kiper and Todd McShay both guess that ex-LSU DB Tyrann Mathieu will be a third- or fourth-round pick.

Each expects Mathieu to drop a round or two, and McShay cited Janoris Jenkins' pre-draft process last season. One difference between the two is that Jenkins did play at the FCS level his final season and was able to attend the Senior Bowl. Mathieu did not do either.

North Carolina AD Bubba Cunningham said that the university would respond to the latest NCAA Notice of Allegations before the required deadline.

UNC was given 90 days to respond to the notice. They have one month remaining on that, but should be able to meet the deadline without issue. Per the Associated Press, all of this is "an offshoot of a 2010 NCAA probe into the football program, center[ing] on independent study-style courses offering GPA-boosting grades in the formerly named African and Afro-American Studies department." The NCAA initially sent a NOA to North Carolina during May of 2015, one which detailed five potentially major violations. In August, UNC reported additional information to the NCAA, which required a revised notice. That was not issued until April of this year. Cunningham indicated that it is too early in the process to know whether self-imposed sanctions would be levied in the future.

Five-star 2017 CB Darnay Holmes will take official visits to Ohio State, Michigan and Nebraska this fall.

Holmes has already locked in the dates for his Nebraska and Ohio State visits. He will be in Lincoln for the Cornhuskers' season-opening showdown with Fresno State and will journey to Columbus when the Buckeyes tango with the Wolverines on November 26. He has yet to shore up a date for his official visit to Ann Arbor, but he will be checking them out as well once the 2016 campaign starts up in earnest. As for his other two officials, he indicated that Florida, Florida State and Miami are in the hunt. UCLA is also making a hard push for the five-star standout.

LSU junior QB Brandon Harris said, "I really do feel like I have the best arm in college football."

That is a strong claim from Harris, though not as strong as the one he made immediately afterward. Said the 6-foot-3, 188-pounder, "We have the best team in college football. I get it all the time: ‘Can you throw this and that?’ I laugh about it because I think as we continue to grow as a team, we’ll get the last laugh." Harris has received widespread praise from teammates for his work this spring, with WR Tyron Johnson saying that he "looks more like an NFL QB [than he did in 2015]" due to improvements in accuracy and poise. Harris believes the Tigers are just beginning to tap into their potential. "The sky is the limit for this team. The light has to come on, and it’s starting to come on."

Miami junior LB Juwon Young has been suspended indefinitely.

Miami's release of the information offered just a cursory "violation of department rules." Per the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson, the actual reason behind the suspension involves the 6-foot-2, 248-pounder's access to a luxury vehicle from a car agency. Miami is trying to jump the gun on any possible NCAA violations here. "Multiple people inside the UM football program do not expect Young to be on the team this season," Jackson wrote. "One source cautioned that he's in limbo and it's still possible he could return but he's not in a good position." Defensive end Al Quadin Muhammad is also being investigated, though he remains in good standing with the team for the time being. Last season, Young was the Hurricanes' second-leading tackler, recording 57 of them.

Former Alabama QB Walter Lewis compared sophomore QB Blake Barnett to Joe Namath.

Lewis -- who served as Bama's QB from 1980-1983 -- made his comparison in a radio interview with Tuscaloosa's Tide 99.1 FM. Barnett was a five-star recruit out of high school and has received a ton of buzz this spring. HC Nick Saban is not one to play recklessly into hype, though, and the Alabama quarterback competition remains an open one. Cooper Bateman, David Cornewell and Jalen Hurts are also in the conversation to start, with Bateman a strong candidate given that he holds a decided advantage in terms of experience as a redshirt junior. And indeed, Saban indicated earlier this offseason that if the season started today, Bateman would be the likely starter for their star-studded showdown with USC.

2016 DB signee Chad Clay, who was dismissed this week by Georgia after being arrested on a charge of theft, was apprehended after allegedly stealing a pair of $30 headphones.

The victim told police his headphones were stolen while playing basketball and Clay was identified as the suspect. A pair of $30 headphones led to posting bail to the amount of $1,500. This was Clay's second arrest since arriving on Georgia's campus before ever playing a single down for the Bulldogs.

Baylor has granted the release of five 2016 signees from their letters of intent.

Each requested their release prior to May 31, and Baylor used their allotted time to review the information. The five include Parrish Cobb, Kameron Martin, Patrick Hudson, J.P. Urquidez and Donovan Duvernay, according to John Werner of the Waco Tribune. Baylor reportedly failed to notify the five players before releasing the information to the public. The other members of the class will join Baylor for the second session of summer classes. The release is a full one, not of the restricted variety.

Four-star 2017 CB Elijah Blades committed to Florida.

Blades made his first visit to Florida earlier in June and afterward told SEC Country, "This visit was kind of a big deal. I can see myself there." And so it has come to pass. The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder ranks as Rivals' No. 235 overall recruit for the 2017 cycle. ESPN calls him a "very good athlete with great length and speed you cannot coach." He has been timed at 4.42 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

Stanford HC David Shaw said that he did not entertain the possibility of taking an NFL coaching job after the end of the 2015 season.

"Never gave it a thought. Was not even an option," Shaw said. NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported as much in January, but rumors die hard, clearly. His words don't leave much room for interpretation. "I think what we're building here is so special that I want to be a part of it. I want to be here. I want everyone to know that I want to be here," Shaw said. Since taking over as head coach for the then-actually-NFL-bound Jim Harbaugh in 2011, Shaw has led the Cardinal to a 54-14 record. His teams have recorded double-digit wins in every season except for 2014, when Stanford dipped to 8-5.

In an interview with MMQB, Michigan HC Jim Harbaugh said, "It’s not like I ‘miss’ the NFL, because it didn’t go anywhere."

"Bottom line, it’s not something to miss," Harbaugh said. "It’s still there. … I’m happy and challenged every day with what I’m doing right now." He left the 49ers after the 2014 season. When MMQB's Albert Breer asked how happy he was at Michigan, Harbaugh responded, "Happy, happy, 10-out-of-10 happy," before adding, "And then I get to walk over to the stadium and do the offensive and defensive linemen too! You’re like a pig in slop out here. That’s how I feel. Drawing the long straw today."

Former Alabama redshirt freshman S Shawn Burgess-Becker has transferred to UCF, according to Crimson Tide beat writer Matt Zenitz.

Burgess-Becker mainly played on special teams as a freshman and likely hopes to impact as a base defender after sitting out the 2016 season. Burgess-Becker visited Illinois along with UCF, but the latter's proximity to his home of Coconut Creek, Florida likely played a role. He was regarded as a four-star recruit out of high school. Ex-Oregon OC Scott Frost is entering his first season has head coach of UCF.
