Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy stated that junior RB Joseph Randle has been "the most pleasant surprise from a leadership standpoint," in recent weeks.

"I thought he ran as hard Saturday as he has since the Texas game," Gundy said. "But the last couple of months, his leadership qualities have been really good and kind of set the bar for who we are." It is still unclear whether or not Randle will return to Stillwater next season or depart for the NFL.

The Tulsa World's Bill Heistan reports that former Notre Dame DC Brian VanGorder has been hired by Oklahoma State to serve in the role of defensive analyst.

Notre Dame has gone through a massive staff overhaul under HC Brian Kelly since the start of the 2016 season. While many of those coaching moves were made in the offseason, VanGorder wasn't so lucky. After the Irish limped out to a 1-3 start in which they coughed up 134 total points, VanGorder was canned. He finished out the campaign as a defensive analyst at Georgia. The fall from Notre Dame defensive coordinator to Oklahoma State defensive analyst is a pretty massive one, but Stillwater could serve as a nice landing spot in which VanGorder can recuperate from his traumatically truncated 2016.

USC four-star 2018 verbal WR commit Manuel Allen has reopened his recruitment.

Manuel announced his decommitment via a very, very short statement on Twitter. He had initially opted in with HC Clay Helton and the Trojans at the beginning of January. The 6-foot-1, 170-pounder ranks as Rivals No. 139 overall prospect in the 2018 cycle. ESPN's Gerry Hamilton viewed this as a near-lock for the Trojans, but every now and then the key slips from the hand.

UMass hired Western Michigan DC Ed Pinkham to serve in the same capacity.

Pinkham had served as WMU's defensive coordinator for the last three seasons. He worked with Minutemen HC Mark Whipple during the late 80's, when the two coached at New Hampshire. Now at UMass, he steps in for Tom Masella, who was fired at the end of the season. In a statement, Whipple said, "He’s an outstanding recruiter and great leader of young men. I couldn’t be more excited about the future of our program as we head into winter conditioning and spring practice."

Michigan State graduate OLB Jon Reschke will transfer.

This isn't exactly a normal transfer. In a lengthy statement, Reschke explained that he would be leaving the Spartans due to an "insensitive and totally regrettable" comment made regarding a former teammate about a month ago. An ankle injury limited him to just two games played last season, but in 2015, the 6-foot-2, 227-pounder started all 14 contests and recorded 75 tackles (5.5 for loss) and a pair of sacks. He was a likely starter for 2017 prior to his transfer announcement.

Oklahoma redshirt senior QB Baker Mayfield was arrested in Arkansas and charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and fleeing early on Saturday morning.

Per a police report obtained by ESPN, an officer was flagged down regarding an assault and battery accusation at around 2:30 a.m. Mayfield was on the scene and said that he was trying to break up the altercation. He was told to stay (in order to take a statement), at which point he began to yell profanities. When Mayfield was asked to come over to give the statement, he began to walk away, then began to sprint away before the officer tackled him. Mayfield was reportedly showing difficulty in walking down stairs, had slurred speech and his clothing was covered in food. The star quarterback was eventually handcuffed. He is set to appear in court on April 7. In a statement, Oklahoma said, "We are aware of the matter and are learning the details." This past season, Mayfield threw for 3,965 yards and posted a 40/8 TD/INT ratio.

In an interview on WSNP 105.5 FM, former Cincinnati HC Tommy Tuberville indicated that he has no plans to coach in the near future.

Tuberville, 62, stepped down as Cincinnati's head coach in December. He is seriously considering a run at the Alabama governor-ship. "I’ve been there done that for many many years in college football. I don’t know what I’m going to do. Talking about this governor thing, I’m kind of testing the wind," Tuberville said, adding that he "want[s] to do a little something different." He didn't rule out possibly coaching again down the road, but that a return to the collegiate ranks doesn't appear to be on his radar right now.

NFL Media draft analyst Lance Zierlein said on the NFL Fantasy Live podcast that LSU RB Leonard Fournette is in the same class of back as Bo Jackson, Herschel Walker and Eric Dickerson in terms of size and speed.

"We're talking about elite size and speed. When I say elite size and speed, I'm saying Bo Jackson, Herschel Walker, I guess you could say Eric Dickerson, really, because he was bigger than people think, and he was definitely fast," Zierlein said. All of this being said, though, the analyst actually views FSU's Dalvin Cook as the better all-around NFL prospect. Pro Football Focus has likened the 6-foot-1, 230-pound Fournette to Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley. His medical check-ups at the Combine are going to be of some interest, as it was reported during the season that the nagging ankle injury which bothered Fournette in 2016 was a chronic issue.

North Texas has signed HC Seth Littrell to a new five-year contract.

Littrell, who had been hired as Mean Green head coach in December 2015, initially received a five-year contract set to run through 2020. The former UNC offensive coordinator helped North Texas improve from a one-win campaign in 2015 to a 5-8 record this past season. His new contract will run through 2021. Per the Associated Press, the contract is in the monetary neighborhood of $5 million. In a statement, Littrell said, "It means a lot to me to move forward with this new deal and continue to work hard with my staff to transform this into the championship-caliber program that our tremendous university, fans and alumni deserve."

Syracuse redshirt junior S Antwan Cordy was granted a medical redshirt by the NCAA.

The 5-foot-8, 175-pound Cordy is the Orange's top returning defensive back. Cordy suffered a season-ending forearm injury in the loss to Louisville last season. He now has two years left of eligibility. Back in 2015, Cordy set a new program record for tackles for loss by a defensive back with 12.

Georgia junior DT Trenton Thompson has withdrawn from school for the spring semester while dealing with a "significant" medical issue.

The medical issue led to Thompson being taken by police to an Athens hospital. Georgia said in a statement that Thompson had "an adverse reaction to medications prescribed specifically for his medical condition." Thompson was, according to the Associated Press, "behaving incoherently, and appeared to be experiencing some type of unknown medical problem." The undisclosed medical issue led him to be hospitalized recently for an extended stay. Thompson led the team with 9.5 TFL last year.

North Carolina State moved junior WR Nyheim Hines to RB.

This was an expected move with 1,000-yard rusher Matt Dayes out the door. There's plenty of touches for Hines to soak up. Dayes led the Wolfpack with 281 touches last year ago. Nobody else on the team had 100. With Reggie Gallaspy and Johnny Frasier being limited or held out of spring practices, Hines will receive the bulk of the RB reps. The speedy weapon posted a 43-525-0 line last year as primarily a receiver.
