ESPN's Mel Kiper believes Central Michigan senior T Eric Fisher will be a mid-to-late first-round pick in April.

We absolutely agree and have ranked Fisher as such for some time. The senior has faced off against solid competition this season, specifically against Michigan State, and more than held his own. He projects as a left tackle in the NFL.

Texas HC Tom Herman announced that freshman QB Sam Ehlinger will start Saturday against Texas Tech.

Ehlinger went 12-of-19 for 136 yards and two touchdowns with 68 yards rushing and a 23-yard catch against West Virginia last week. Sophomore Shane Buechele struggled in that one, going 4-of-7 for 28 yards. Herman indicated that Buechele will likely come off the bench to share snaps with Ehlinger against the Red Raiders. He'll play the hot hand from there.

South Alabama HC Joey Jones will resign after the season finale December 2 against New Mexico State.

"There comes a time in every program where there is a need for change. For this program that I love so much, that time is now," Jones said in a statement. He's the only coach the school has ever known, having been hired in 2008 before the team played a game, and he reached two bowl games with the program, both losses. Because there South Alabama won't go to a bowl game this year, there is no interim head coach at this time, and no timetable as to when the Jaguars will announce Jones's replacement.

Wyoming HC Craig Bohl said after Saturday's game against Fresno State that he believes redshirt junior QB Josh Allen will declare for the NFL Draft after this season.

"I would say no," Bohl said when asked if Allen would return to the team in 2018. "He and I have had some talks, and I think he’s going to plan on moving forward (to the NFL). So that’s what the plan was today." When Bohl refers to "the plan," he's talking about having sent Allen out first at Wyoming’s senior day ceremony. There was no ambiguity about that gesture: This is Allen's last year in college. Allen (shoulder) did not play on Saturday against Fresno State. He's questionable for this weekend's game against San Jose State. Despite his struggles this season, Allen is a projected first-round pick. Tools like these don't come around often.

TCU HC Gary Patterson said Monday that redshirt senior QB Kenny Hill (concussion) is "closer to probable" for Friday's tilt with Baylor.

Hill didn't travel to Lubbock for Saturday's win over Texas Tech. "I think he’s got a chance to be back," Patterson said. "You know me, I’m going to tell the truth. I’m not one of those guys, ‘If they show up or don’t show up’ on game day. I’d say, probable to questionable, and I’d probably say closer to probable. Now." Freshman QB Shawn Robinson played well in Hill's absence on Saturday. He'd start again if Hill can't go.

Wyoming redshirt junior QB Josh Allen (shoulder) is labeled day-to-day.

"We're seeing some pretty significant progress," HC Craig Bohl said. Allen missed Saturday's loss to Fresno State with an AC joint sprain. Nick Smith started in his place. Wyoming travels to San Jose State on Saturday. "I was given indication that we’d have him back this week," Bohl said. "So we’ll just have to look and see where he’s at next week. I know this, if there is any way in the world he can play, he’s going to play. And he wants to play. It just comes down to whether a guy is physically capable and cleared to play."

Iowa State senior WR Allen Lazard accepted an invitation to play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl.

The 6-foot-5, 222-pounder came to Iowa State as a rare top-100 overall recruit, and he'll leave Ames as the best receiver in school history. Lazard owns school records for career receptions (225), career receiving yards (3,123) and career 100-yard receiving games (11). He's second all-time in career touchdown receptions (25). Lazard is a classic possession receiver. He won't blow spectators away at the combine with his speed or overall athleticism, but he's smart, tough, physical and wins in contested situations. In the right situation, he could be a draft day steal. We've heard early Day 3 grades on Lazard, but we think he could work his way into the back-end of Day 2 with a decent pre-draft process.

Michigan redshirt freshman QB Brandon Peters (head) is in the concussion protocol.

Peters, now in the NCAA-mandated concussion protocol, will have to sit out practices until Wednesday at the earliest, HC Jim Harbaugh said Monday. "He'll be coming in shortly," Harbaugh said. "We (saw) him yesterday, and we'll see where is at today." Doctors must declare Peters symptom-free before he can practice. "That could happen as early as Wednesday, or early as Thursday," Harbaugh said. If Peters isn't cleared by Wednesday, his status for Saturday against Ohio State will officially become murky. He was knocked out of Saturday's loss to Wisconsin with the head injury. John O'Korn will start if he can't.

Kentucky junior TE C.J. Conrad (foot) is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery on Tuesday.

"Unfortunately C.J. will be out for the remainder of the year," HC Mark Stoops announced. Currently, Conrad is the team’s third-leading receiver with 16 catches for 286 yards and four touchdowns. The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder, Mel Kiper's No. 2 underclassmen TE prospect heading into the year, has an NFL decision to make. Meanwhile, Greg Hart will take over as starter for the Wildcats.

LSU HC Ed Orgeron labeled junior edge rusher Arden Key (knee) questionable for Saturday's game against Texas A&M.

Key missed last week's game against Tennessee following a lost week of practice. He suffered the knee injury the week before against Arkansas. The 6-foot-6, 255-pounder is a potential top-10 selection in the spring's draft, but he continues to be dogged by injuries. Prior to the current knee issue, he missed the first two games of the season while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.

SI's Bruce Feldman reports that West Virginia redshirt junior QB Will Grier (finger) is questionable for the Mountaineers’ bowl game.

Grier broke the middle finger of his throwing hand while diving for the endzone against Texas on Saturday. He underwent surgery on Sunday and will miss the Oklahoma game this weekend. Per Feldman, Grier is expected to be sidelined for around a month. As of today, SI predicts that the Mountaineers will play in the Camping World Bowl on Thursday, Dec. 28. That would be roughly five-and-a-half weeks after surgery. Other outlets have reported that Grier's recovery timeline is 4-6 weeks. This could go either way.

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline reports that Northwestern redshirt junior QB Clayson Thorson is leaning towards entering the draft after this season.

As with Tanner Lee, who Pauline also reported was leaning towards entering early, we're surprised by this news. "As one insider told me it was 'one foot in the door, one foot out the door' for both signal callers before the season even began and that it would’ve taken something major for both to return to school," Pauline wrote of the pair. Like Lee, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound Thorson has reportedly been swayed by the struggles of this year's marquee quarterback prospects, like Sam Darnold and Josh Allen. We'd suggest that Darnold and Allen's play won't affect Thorson or Lee's draft standing in the least.
