Baylor will take on UCLA in the Holiday Bowl on December 27.

This will be a fun contest, with Baylor's fast scoring offense against a very talented Bruins defense. The Bears top offensive talent, receiver Terrance Williams, has broken the school's single season all-purpose yards record and consistently wins vertically. He will face two potentially draftable corners in Sheldon Price and Aaron Hester. Defensive lineman Datone Jones can win off the snap with power or quicks and UCLA junior outside linebacker Anthony Barr may have more buzz surrounding him than any other prospect in the country. On offense, tight end Joseph Fauria is an intriguing receiving threat and running back Johnathan Franklin is very consistent.

Alabama redshirt junior RB Bo Scarbrough (undisclosed) was not seen at practice during the team's open-media window on Friday.

Just what Scarbrough is dealing with or why he wasn't practicing is unknown at this juncture, but given his medical history, this is one worth monitoring. The 6-foot-2, 228-pounder was a limited participant in spring practice while he continued to rehab from the broken leg he suffered against Clemson in the National Championship Game back in January. He said at the beginning of preseason camp that that leg injury has fully healed.

Miami redshirt sophomore LB Jamie Gordinier will miss the coming season due to a right knee injury.

Gordinier's knees just aren't holding steady for him. He missed almost the entirety of the 2016 campaign after injuring his left knee in the team's season-opener against Florida A&M. Now it is the right one which has given out on him. Gordinier is set to undergo surgery next week.

Per the Tuscaloosa News, Alabama is in negotiations to take part in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game against Miami in 2021.

Bama is already playing in this season's incarnation of the contest, in a titanic matchup with Florida State. They are also set to play the 2019 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game against Duke. The Tide and Canes last faced off as Sugar Bowl participants in 1993, with Alabama coming out victorious by a 34-13 score.

Georgia Tech dismissed sophomore RB Dedrick Mills.

No word as of yet as to exactly what Mills did to get himself booted from the program, but it's a potentially crushing loss for the Yellow Jackets. The 5-foot-10, 217-pounder has had his fair share of trouble in his short time at Georgia Tech, having been suspended on two separate occasions during the 2016 season. Despite being forced to miss three total games due to those suspensions, he still managed to lead the team in rushing with 771 yards (5.1 YPC) and 12 touchdowns while serving as HC Paul Johnson's B-back. This is a developing story and you can expect further updates over the coming days. Freshman Jerry Howard and sophomore KirVonte Benson are the two most likely candidates to replace Mills, as much as you can replace your top rusher two-plus weeks before the season begins.

Ohio State RB coach Tony Alford said that redshirt sophomore RB Mike Weber (hamstring) will play in the season-opener against Indiana.

Weber (5'10/215) continues to nurse a tight hamstring suffered at the beginning of camp, but Alford said that he will be "ready to go" for OSU's opener on Thursday, August 31. This past season, Weber rushed for 1,096 yards and nine touchdowns in his first year as a starter.

When asked if LSU junior edge rusher Arden Key (shoulder) would play in the season-opener against BYU, HC Ed Orgeron said, "I don't think so."

"I’m not sure but I don’t think so. I’m not expecting it. But nothing that dude does surprises me," Orgeron said. "He’s going to go to his doctor next week and we should know pretty soon when he’s going to play." Key underwent offseason shoulder surgery and after a prolonged absence from the team, returned to the squad in June. He's a potential top-five draft pick for the spring. Expect an update on his status for the opener next week.

Penn State's Board of Trustees approved a contract extension for HC James Franklin through the 2022 season.

Franklin's previous contract was set to expire at the end of the season. Not only will the extension keep him in Happy Valley into the 2020's, it comes with a monster salary -- Franklin's salary will rise each of the next six years, topping out at $6.25 million in 2022.

Miami QB coach Jon Richt said that redshirt sophomore QB Evan Shirreffs and redshirt junior QB Malik Rossier are currently leading the competition to start.

Richt explained that "as far as day to day, if we had to start right now, yeah, those two older guys are ready. They’ve been in the system for a year and a half." He noted that while highly-anticipated true freshman QB N'Kosi Perry possesses an "unbelievable talent base," Perry still understandably takes a little more time to process the field than the more experienced Shirreffs and Rossier.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Seth Emerson reports that Georgia senior CB Malkom Parrish broke his foot in practice.

Parrish sat out Wednesday's practice due to an undisclosed injury. Per Emerson, he will have to undergo surgery to repair a broken foot. There is no concrete timetable for his return, but this will likely keep him out of action for at least the next two weeks. Aaron Davis -- who took reps at corner, rather than his usual safety spot on Wednesday -- Tyrique McGhee and highly regarded true freshman Deangelo Gibbs could all potentially see work in place of Parrish during the regular season if this injury sidelines him into September. He was a 12-game starter a year ago.

BYU sophomore LB Francis Bernard (personal) is expected to redshirt during the coming season.

Bernard (6'0/235) is taking the redshirt due to a personal matter, but there is no further detail as to what that matter might be. His loss figures to be a difficult one to paper over -- Bernard registered 79 tackles (5.5 for loss) and three interceptions in 12 games last season. Matt Hadley has been moved from safety to linebacker to help shore up the position group.

Baylor HC Matt Rhule said that he will probably wait until the week of the season-opener against Liberty to name the starting quarterback.

"I just really like the camaraderie and competitiveness between Zach (Smith) and Anu (Solomon). I really believe iron sharpens iron. So we’re just going to keep playing it out," Rhule said. Smith and Arizona transfer Solomon have pulled ahead of true freshman Charlie Brewer over the first two weeks of camp, but beyond that, Rhule has offered no real hints as to what his lean might be.
