Alabama senior C Barrett Jones admitted during a postgame interview that he played in the BCS Championship with a Lisfranc injury.

He will undergo surgery in the next day or two. We all knew Jones' foot was hurt, but this is fairly shocking news because many NFL players' seasons end with a Lisfranc injury. We guess Jones won't be playing in the Senior Bowl, and teams will need to decide how much they value you the toughness compared to selecting an injured player.

Mississippi State junior CB Will Redmond "was certainly among the top five corners in this draft going into the draft process," wrote ESPN's Mel Kiper.

Redmond, of course, elected to return to school for his last season of eligibility. Had he entered, Redmond probably would have been no worse than a second-rounder, and may have snuck into latter stages of Round 1 in a weak CB class. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported last month that Redmond could have been the second CB drafted if he had declared early. "I'd say late first or second round," an NFL scout said in the article. "He will be more of an off corner. I think he will run in the 4.3s."

Michigan sophomore TE Jake Butt underwent microscopic knee surgery earlier this month.

Uh oh. This is the same knee that had a torn ACL repaired last February. Even so, is Butt is not expected to miss spring practices. Butt missed three games between injury and suspension last season and finished with nine catches for 211 yards and two touchdowns. Butt was not a major part of Michigan's passing offense in 2014 with Devin Funchess around, but the former four-star recruit figures to be a popular breakout pick this summer. Head coach Jim Harbaugh‘s offenses at Stanford always made great use of the tight end.

South Carolina WR Shaq Roland will transfer to Prairie View A&M.

Roland left the Gamecocks prior to the school's bowl game, and many concluded he would enter the draft. Instead, Roland will play one more season of collegiate football at the FCS level. From what we can find, Prairie View A&M has not produced a drafted player since 1980.

Auburn co-OC Dameyune Craig says the team will focus on "the pass game" more in 2014 with junior QB Jeremy Johnson starting.

"That means the ball will be spread out a little bit more than it has in the past," Craig said. "I think the receivers will prosper from Jeremy Johnson's emergence as quarterback next year." Johnson started the opening game of the season last year in place of Nick Marshall, throwing for 858 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions in two seasons of backup duty. Johnson also sports a completion percentage over 70-percent.

Michigan senior QB Russell Bellomy will transfer this spring after graduation.

Bellomy only has 23 attempts on his career, completing four along with throwing four interceptions. He tore his ACL in the spring of 2013. Bellomy is from Texas.

"There's a real sense" the Tampa Bay Bucs have their sights set on selecting Oregon QB Marcus Mariota with the No. 1 pick, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

This sounds like a big deal, but on Jan. 29 it is not. Just got back and read blurbs on Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater and Blake Bortles at this time last year. So much of the draft process has not taken place yet, for better or worse. Many evaluators still prefer FSU's Jameis Winston. We think both are great quarterback prospects.

Dan Quinn, the Falcons next HC, recruited Florida EDGE Dante Fowler Jr. while working with the Gators.

Obviously there is a lot of dot connecting that can be done here. The Falcons desperately need an edge rusher, they have the No. 8 pick, Quinn and Fowler have history... but really, the decision will come from Scott Pioli and Thomas Dimitroff. Fowler "was one that we thought would develop into a pass rusher," Quinn said. "His first year there, he played right away as a true freshmen." We think Fowler's best traits are his hand use, counter moves and ability to win on the outside or working back in.

FSU QB Jameis Winston received an Eli Manning comparison from NFL Media's Lance Zierlein.

Winston has received a number of comparisons, form Ben Roethlisberger to Byron Leftwich. In fact, Zierlein writes "his wind-up delivery and marginal mobility outside the pocket are reminiscent of Byron Leftwich, but his arm talent and issues with decision making are more in line with Eli Manning's." Quarterback comparisons are kind of unrealistic, since most successful quarterbacks in the NFL right now are quite different.

NFL Media's Lance Zierlein tabbed USC DL Leonard Williams as a "Pro Bowl caliber player" and graded him as the No. 1 prospect in the 2015 class.

There is so much time left in the process, but Zierlein awarded Williams with a 7.4 grade, with Amari Cooper and Shane Ray receiving 7.0 grades. "It doesn't matter how raw he is because he's got freakish qualities that are rare for men his size," one NFC Director of College Scouting told Zierlein. "I think he has a chance to be as good as Kevin Williams."

Wisconsin redshirt junior RB Melvin Gordon reminds NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt of St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason.

"[Gordon is] bigger and stronger, but he's got Mason's tremendous quickness," Brandt wrote. "He's an interesting player because up until this season he had started only eight games. This year he started all 13 games -- 14 if you count the bowl game -- running for 2,587 yards, the second-highest total ever, and 29 touchdowns. Gordon improved in two key areas last season: He became a much better pass catcher, posting 26 catches after posting 16 in his three seasons before, and a more reliable player in pass protection. I think Gordon has enough strength to carry the ball 20 times a game in the NFL, and he should have a lot more success as a rookie than Mason did." Former Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson compares MGIII to Jamaal Charles, and believes the Badger will be the first RB taken in the spring draft.
Jan 29 - 1:49 AM reports that sources have indicated UCLA QB Brett Hundley "will fully participate at the combine."

Hundley is the site's No. 3-rated quarterback. Many elite QB prospects in recent years have skipped the scouting combine, preferring to work out at their personal pro days. Hundley is making a good choice to participate, as he bungled an opportunity to play in the Senior Bowl and has serious competition for the No. 3 QB designation. He'll have a nice platform at the combine, as Marcus Mariota might not be able to participate due to a shoulder sprain.
