Minnesota's MarQueis Gray continues to struggle with his transition to TE during Texas versus Nation practices.

"Gray has looked extremely raw running routes and finishing catches," CBS Sports' Dane Brugler writes. "He did a nice job getting physical in his routes, but struggled to create much separation against defenders and dropped more passes than he caught." Gray played some receiver during his time in college, but the full-time move does not seem to be going well.

In the release of the AP Preseason Top-25 poll, Alabama has been ranked as the No. 1 team in the country.

Alabama sits atop once more. And it wasn't even close. The Crimson Tide received 52 first-place votes to lead in a romp, with the next three teams (Ohio State, Florida State, USC) receiving a combined nine first-place tallies. In terms of conference supremacy, the SEC led the way with six entrants in the initial top-25, while the ACC and Big 12 both put five teams into the mixer.

Ohio State redshirt sophomore RB Mike Weber (hamstring) returned to practice on Monday.

Weber (5'10/215) has been dealing with a balky hamstring throughout camp, but RB coach Tony Alford said late last week that the redshirt sophomore would be ready to rock 'n' roll for the season-opener against Indiana on Thursday, August 31. Sometimes camp injuries linger, but at this juncture, it looks like all systems go for Weber. He racked up 1,096 yards rushing and nine touchdowns a year ago.

Utah named sophomore QB Tyler Huntley the starter for the coming season.

Huntley turned in a strong preseason camp to supplant incumbent starter Troy Williams. This comes as an outward surprise, but Williams struggled with his accuracy a year ago and in OC Troy Taylor's throw-heavy scheme, pocket-passer Huntley offers a slightly cleaner fit. Huntley was a three-star recruit for the 2016 cycle.

Alabama redshirt junior RB Bo Scarbrough has missed the past two practices due to illness.

Rest easy, Tide fans, as Scarbrough's sitting over the weekend is not related to anything more than a touch of illness. Said HC Nick Saban, "We don’t think this is a serious illness or anything like that, but it is something that we didn’t think it would be good for him not to be in a position where he could be resting." Expect Scarbrough to get back at it in practice some time later this week.

The NCAA has ruled that Indiana freshman DB Bryant Fitzgerald is a non-qualifier for the coming season.

Fitzgerald (6'0/200) will not be allowed to play or practice with the Hoosiers this year, but does remain on scholarship. It's an unfair blow for the young man, who was blameless in the situation. Instead, all of this comes about because he was incorrectly advised by the university about classes he needed to take to be eligible for the year. Compounding matters, the NCAA doubled down on the program's misstep by denying a subsequent waiver that would have allowed Fitzpatrick to play this year. Just disappointing on every front by the alleged adults in the room. Fitzgerald was a three-star recruit in the 2017 class.

Texas HC Tom Herman said that if there was a game tomorrow, sophomore QB Shane Buechele would be the starter.

Buechele has received a heated competition in camp from true freshman Sam Ehlinger, but looks like he might emerge victorious despite his young challenger's strong push. Buechele threw for 2,958 yards while posting a 21/11 TD/INT ratio during the past campaign. Texas kicks off against Maryland two weeks from today.

West Virginia junior WR Jovon Durante transferred to FAU.

Durante (6'0/171) sat out the first two-plus weeks of camp at West Virginia due to a personal matter. He's opted to move on entirely. At FAU, the junior wideout will have to sit out the 2017 season to satisfy NCAA transfer regulations. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining with the Owls starting in 2018. As a sophomore in Morgantown last season, Durante caught 35 passes for 331 yards and two touchdowns.

Miami redshirt sophomore LB Jamie Gordinier will miss the coming season due to a right knee injury.

Gordinier's knees just aren't holding steady for him. He missed almost the entirety of the 2016 campaign after injuring his left knee in the team's season-opener against Florida A&M. Now it is the right one which has given out on him. Gordinier is set to undergo surgery next week.

Per the Tuscaloosa News, Alabama is in negotiations to take part in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game against Miami in 2021.

Bama is already playing in this season's incarnation of the contest, in a titanic matchup with Florida State. They are also set to play the 2019 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game against Duke. The Tide and Canes last faced off as Sugar Bowl participants in 1993, with Alabama coming out victorious by a 34-13 score.

Georgia Tech dismissed sophomore RB Dedrick Mills.

No word as of yet as to exactly what Mills did to get himself booted from the program, but it's a potentially crushing loss for the Yellow Jackets. The 5-foot-10, 217-pounder has had his fair share of trouble in his short time at Georgia Tech, having been suspended on two separate occasions during the 2016 season. Despite being forced to miss three total games due to those suspensions, he still managed to lead the team in rushing with 771 yards (5.1 YPC) and 12 touchdowns while serving as HC Paul Johnson's B-back. This is a developing story and you can expect further updates over the coming days. Freshman Jerry Howard and sophomore KirVonte Benson are the two most likely candidates to replace Mills, as much as you can replace your top rusher two-plus weeks before the season begins.
Aug 18 - 3:42 PM

Ohio State RB coach Tony Alford said that redshirt sophomore RB Mike Weber (hamstring) will play in the season-opener against Indiana.

Weber (5'10/215) continues to nurse a tight hamstring suffered at the beginning of camp, but Alford said that he will be "ready to go" for OSU's opener on Thursday, August 31. This past season, Weber rushed for 1,096 yards and nine touchdowns in his first year as a starter.
