ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that South Carolina RB Marcus Lattimore is unlikely to help the team that selects him during his rookie season.

"The medicals on him are not great," said Mort. "Dr. (James) Andrews, who did the surgery, says it's one of the toughest surgeries he's ever had. ... You take Marcus Lattimore, you're taking him for 2014. Nobody wants to shoot down the inspiration for him, but the bottom line is it's going to be a long road." This is the first negative, albeit realistic, report we have read, but expect Lattimore to draw a middle round selection.

Kansas State HC Bill Snyder announced that redshirt junior QB Jesse Ertz (knee) is out for the season.

This isn't a surprising development, but it ends a strange six-week stretch in which Synder repeatedly stated that Ertz would return this season. The coach has frequently labeled Ertz week-to-week since he suffered the injury in early-October. Snyder refuted a report in late-October that Ertz was out for the year. Regardless, KSU will continue to roll with Skylar Thompson or Alex Delton (undisclosed injury) behind center.

Auburn HC Gus Malzahn announced that redshirt junior RB Kamryn Pettway (scapula) will not play Saturday against Alabama.

Pettway is dealing with a fractured scapula and has not yet been cleared to return. This has been a great season for Auburn, and a lost season for Pettway. He was suspended in the opener and then played through plantar fasciitis during Auburn's loss to Clemson. Then, he suffered an ankle injury in Week 3 against Mercer that made him a week-to-week proposition over the month that followed. Finally, he fractured his scapula against Arkansas in late October. Pettway led the SEC in rushing yards per game last season but has ran for only 305 yards and six touchdowns on 76 carries this year.

Minnesota HC PJ Fleck announced that sophomore WR Tyler Johnson (broken hand) will be out 4-5 weeks but will be available for spring practices.

In all likelihood, this ends Johnson's season. The Gophers could still make a bowl game and hope he recovers quickly, but to do that, they'd have to upset Wisconsin this weekend. Johnson emerged as Minnesota's No. 1 receiver this season. In 10 games played, he posted a 35-677-7 line. If the Gophers can get better quarterback play next season, those numbers will swell.

Oregon senior RB Royce Freeman accepted an invitation to attend the Senior Bowl.

Freeman is subtly one of the most productive running backs in NCAA history, recently passing Ladanian Tomlinson on the all-time rushing list. The 2018 crop will do its best to match the loaded 2017 running back draft class.

Texas HC Tom Herman announced that freshman QB Sam Ehlinger will start Saturday against Texas Tech.

Ehlinger went 12-of-19 for 136 yards and two touchdowns with 68 yards rushing and a 23-yard catch against West Virginia last week. Sophomore Shane Buechele struggled in that one, going 4-of-7 for 28 yards. Herman indicated that Buechele will likely come off the bench to share snaps with Ehlinger against the Red Raiders. He'll play the hot hand from there.

South Alabama HC Joey Jones will resign after the season finale December 2 against New Mexico State.

"There comes a time in every program where there is a need for change. For this program that I love so much, that time is now," Jones said in a statement. He's the only coach the school has ever known, having been hired in 2008 before the team played a game, and he reached two bowl games with the program, both losses. Because there South Alabama won't go to a bowl game this year, there is no interim head coach at this time, and no timetable as to when the Jaguars will announce Jones's replacement.

Wyoming HC Craig Bohl said after Saturday's game against Fresno State that he believes redshirt junior QB Josh Allen will declare for the NFL Draft after this season.

"I would say no," Bohl said when asked if Allen would return to the team in 2018. "He and I have had some talks, and I think he’s going to plan on moving forward (to the NFL). So that’s what the plan was today." When Bohl refers to "the plan," he's talking about having sent Allen out first at Wyoming’s senior day ceremony. There was no ambiguity about that gesture: This is Allen's last year in college. Allen (shoulder) did not play on Saturday against Fresno State. He's questionable for this weekend's game against San Jose State. Despite his struggles this season, Allen is a projected first-round pick. Tools like these don't come around often.

TCU HC Gary Patterson said Monday that redshirt senior QB Kenny Hill (concussion) is "closer to probable" for Friday's tilt with Baylor.

Hill didn't travel to Lubbock for Saturday's win over Texas Tech. "I think he’s got a chance to be back," Patterson said. "You know me, I’m going to tell the truth. I’m not one of those guys, ‘If they show up or don’t show up’ on game day. I’d say, probable to questionable, and I’d probably say closer to probable. Now." Freshman QB Shawn Robinson played well in Hill's absence on Saturday. He'd start again if Hill can't go.

Wyoming redshirt junior QB Josh Allen (shoulder) is labeled day-to-day.

"We're seeing some pretty significant progress," HC Craig Bohl said. Allen missed Saturday's loss to Fresno State with an AC joint sprain. Nick Smith started in his place. Wyoming travels to San Jose State on Saturday. "I was given indication that we’d have him back this week," Bohl said. "So we’ll just have to look and see where he’s at next week. I know this, if there is any way in the world he can play, he’s going to play. And he wants to play. It just comes down to whether a guy is physically capable and cleared to play."

Iowa State senior WR Allen Lazard accepted an invitation to play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl.

The 6-foot-5, 222-pounder came to Iowa State as a rare top-100 overall recruit, and he'll leave Ames as the best receiver in school history. Lazard owns school records for career receptions (225), career receiving yards (3,123) and career 100-yard receiving games (11). He's second all-time in career touchdown receptions (25). Lazard is a classic possession receiver. He won't blow spectators away at the combine with his speed or overall athleticism, but he's smart, tough, physical and wins in contested situations. In the right situation, he could be a draft day steal. We've heard early Day 3 grades on Lazard, but we think he could work his way into the back-end of Day 2 with a decent pre-draft process.
Nov 20 - 5:29 PM

Michigan redshirt freshman QB Brandon Peters (head) is in the concussion protocol.

Peters, now in the NCAA-mandated concussion protocol, will have to sit out practices until Wednesday at the earliest, HC Jim Harbaugh said Monday. "He'll be coming in shortly," Harbaugh said. "We (saw) him yesterday, and we'll see where is at today." Doctors must declare Peters symptom-free before he can practice. "That could happen as early as Wednesday, or early as Thursday," Harbaugh said. If Peters isn't cleared by Wednesday, his status for Saturday against Ohio State will officially become murky. He was knocked out of Saturday's loss to Wisconsin with the head injury. John O'Korn will start if he can't.
