Teams at SE Louisiana CB Robert Alford's pro day say the corner is a top 42 pick, according to draft insider Tony Pauline.

"Almost" 15 teams were in attendance even though Alford did not run the forty. The small school corner did not look out of place at the Senior Bowl and displays excellent closing speed, but his college position coach previously warned that Alford might not be mentally ready for the NFL game. That is worrisome.

Iowa State indefinitely suspended redshirt sophomore CB Mike Johnson following his arrest on assault charges Thursday.

Johnson was arrested on Thursday and charged with domestic assault strangulation with injury. According to the filed complaint, the unfortunate incident had innocuous beginnings, as Johnson allegedly was arguing with his girlfriend regarding social media posts and the music being played on the pairs' cell phones. Matters escalated when each party attempted to grab the others' phone. Johnson's girlfriend told the Iowa State police that Johnson then put both hands around her neck. Johnson said that she was attempting to damage both his laptop and phone, leading to the physical confrontation. In a statement, Cyclones HC Matt Campbell said that the 5-foot-11, 182-pounder has been indefinitely suspended from all team activities (including practice) until more information is available. Johnson was a key piece in the Iowa State secondary last season, logging 44 tackles.

An NFL executive who spoke with NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah said that Texas Tech QB Pat Mahomes will "check every box in Indy [at the NFL Scouting Combine]."

The executive said that "everybody will be talking about him after the [C]ombine." Earlier on Thursday, Ian Rapoport reported that Mahomes (as well as Davis Webb) will be taking part in throwing drills and the like in Indianapolis. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Mahomes is one of the more intriguing quarterback prospects in the 2017 pool. He already has the size and the arm chops for the NFL. Don't be surprised if he sneaks into the back half of the first round this spring.

Notre Dame received a verbal commitment from four-star 2018 ATH Braden Lenzy.

Lenzy visited Notre Dame on February 11, a visit which helped seal the deal for his pledge. "When I was there, I felt so welcomed and it was just so easy to see myself there," said the 6-foot, 165-pounder. While he plays two-way ball at Tigard High (Oregon), he will likely open under HC Brian Kelly as a wide receiver. Lenzy ranks as Rivals' No. 238 overall prospect for the 2018 class. Notre Dame has been on a roll this month, having netted commitments from five players since February 13. Of their 11 current pledges, a hearty seven land on the Rivals250.

NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reports that Texas Tech QB Pat Mahomes and Cal QB Davis Webb will both throw and participate in other drills at the NFL Combine.

Unlike in many year's past, the upper-tier of this quarterback crop has collectively decided to strut their stuff at the sport's premier showcase event. Prior to this news, Clemson's Deshaun Watson and UNC's Mitch Trubisky both decided to fully participate in the Combine. This is a trend the NFL can surely get behind.
Feb 23 - 1:11 PM

UNC QB Mitch Trubisky's father, Dave, said his son will be a full participant at the NFL Combine except for the bench press.

This means that the North Carolina star quarterback will throw for scouts and run the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. In other Trubisky news, his high school coach Steve Trivisonno shot down reports that the prospect could measure in at 6-foot-1. Trivisonno said Trubisky was at least 6-foot-2 when he was measured in high school. Clemson’s Deshaun Watson, with whom Trubisky is vying to be the first quarterback selected, told the media he will also fully participate at the NFL Combine.

Fox Sports' Stewart Mandel writes that Ole Miss HC Hugh Freeze "most certainly won’t" survive his program’s ongoing scandal.

The NCAA charged Ole Miss with a lack of institutional control along with 21 total allegations. Among them, giving a former recruit access to two boosters who provided "between $13,000 and $15,600" in impermissible cash benefits. As for Freeze, he's been charged with violating "head coach responsibility legislation." To this point, Chancellor Jeff Vitter and AD Ross Bjork have stuck by him. Though Freeze continues to maintain his innocence, it seems to be only a matter of time before his bosses reverse course and hit the reset button.

Ole Miss self-imposed a one-year postseason ban after receiving notice that the NCAA is accusing it of eight new athletic compliance violations.

Those eight allegations are in addition to the 13 that the NCAA charged Ole Miss with last year, making 21 total allegations. In addition, Ole Miss was charged with a lack of institutional control. Ole Miss received the original allegations on Jan. 30 2016. In response, the school self-imposed the loss of 11 football scholarships over a four-year period from 2015-2018. The NCAA re-opened the case when T Laremy Tunsil admitted he took money from Rebels' coaches during the last NFL Draft. Yahoo! Sports' Pat Forde reported in August that the NCAA had granted immunity to players at Mississippi State and Auburn to speak openly about being recruited by Ole Miss.

Washington hired Baylor offensive coordinator and wide receiver coach Matt Lubick as co-offensive coordinator and wide receiver coach.

Lubick replaces Bush Hamdan, the Huskies' former WR coach who was hired as the Atlanta Falcons' quarterbacks coach. Incredibly, this is Lubick's fourth job is three months. He spent last year as Oregon's OC, replacing Scott Frost, who was hired as UCF's HC. Just before Christmas, Lubick accepted an offer to become Ole Miss' WR coach. But reserved course in the New Year, joining Baylor's staff. Lubick resigned his post at Baylor to accept the Washington gig.
