Eagles traded up with the Jaguars to select USC QB Matt Barkley with the No. 98 overall pick, sending Jacksonville the Nos. 101 and 201 picks.

Oddest fit of the draft so far. Barkley (6-foot-2 1/2, 227) wrapped his college career with a 64.1 completion rate and 116:48 TD-to-INT ratio as a four-year starter in USC's pro-style offense. Though decorated and productive, Barkley's inability to drive throws outside the numbers and lack of mobility put a lid on his long-range upside. Barkley draws high marks for intelligence and leadership, but has a skill set similar to Andy Dalton or Chad Pennington. Based on tape study, NFL Films' Greg Cosell has called Barkley a fourth-round talent -- he proved wrote -- and insists Mark Sanchez was a better prospect coming out of USC. New Eagles coach Chip Kelly has been open about changing his offense to suit his personnel, but we wouldn't be surprised if Barkley never played a down in Philadelphia and is simply being drafted as future trade bait.

Arkansas State redshirt junior QB Justice Hansen threw for 275 yards and ran for 120 more with three total touchdowns in a 47-3 thrashing of Louisiana-Lafayette.

Hansen (6'4/207) was everywhere for the Red Wolves on Thursday. Not only did he have the big passing and rushing totals, he also caught a 34-yard pass on a trick play. The Ragin Cajuns defense was putrid, and the talented all-purpose quarterback was able to use his size, speed and arm-strength to burn the front seven and secondary. Hansen should have another monster game against New Mexico State next week.

Arkansas redshirt freshman QB Cole Kelly is likely to earn his second-straight start on Saturday against Auburn.

Kelley would get the start in place of senior Austin Allen (shoulder) who is unlikely to play on Saturday. The 6-foot-7, 268-pound quarterback has completed 56 percent of his passes with four touchdowns and two interceptions.

Uncommitted four-star 2018 T Nicholas Petit-Frere is taking an official visit to Notre Dame this weekend.

Petit-Frere (6'6/272) will be drinking in the atmosphere in South Bend for this weekend's monster game against USC. The Irish will have several recruits on campus for that contest and a victory could go a ways toward locking up some pledges. Scout.com's No. 40 overall prospect in the 2018 class could use some added muscle, but that figures to come as he matures. He already boasts a fluid, tenacious mindset on the line. Florida, Alabama, Auburn and Ohio State are also vying for Petit-Frere's pledge, with the Gators considered the probable leader for the Tampa native come Signing Day.

Oregon State junior WR Seth Collins (health) has been ruled out indefinitely.

It's been a tough run for Collins over the last year-plus. He was hospitalized due to an illness last autumn and had a slow recovery from it, then found himself sidelined early in the current campaign with a finger injury. Now, a new undisclosed health concern. Searching for a silver lining, Oregon State is saying that his current indefinite absence is not related to last year's illness. Trevon Bradford figures to see the bulk of work out of the slot moving forward with Collins out. A medical redshirt could be in play if the junior is unable to take the field again this year.

Purdue HC Jeff Brohm said that senior LB T.J. McCollum (undisclosed) is unlikely to play in Saturday's game against Rutgers.

McCollum (6'3/240) sat out this past weekend's loss to Wisconsin due to the injury. Entering that contest, the Western Kentucky transfer was leading the Boilermakers with 40 tackles (2.0 for loss) in five games. Garrett Hudson is in line to draw the start if McCollum can't play on Saturday.

Michigan State junior RB LJ Scott was arrested for driving on a suspended license on Wednesday.

Remarkably, this is Scott's seventh arrest relating to either a suspended license or his driving without a license at all. Michigan State has yet to issue a statement regarding the 6-foot-1, 230-pounder's Wednesday arrest and his status for Saturday's game against Indiana is currently unknown. We'll pass along updates as they become available. After a slow start to the season, Scott finally busted out in a big way against Minnesota this past weekend, rushing for 194 yards and two touchdowns.

Texas A&M HC Kevin Sumlin said that "things haven't changed" regarding freshman QB Kellen Mond's status as starting quarterback.

The return of Nick Starkel from a fractured ankle adds a wrinkle to the equation -- Starkel opened the season as starter -- but the Aggies have already embarked on the True Freshman Quarterback Experience with Mond and they aren't turning the car around. We think this is the smart move for Sumlin and crew. Mond is far from a polished passer, but he's shown respectable development as he's settled into the starting role and Texas A&M has worked its way out to a 5-2 start, 5-1 since their disastrous meltdown against UCLA to open the season.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Shandel Richardson reports that FAU redshirt senior WR Kalib Woods will make his season-debut in Saturday's game against North Texas.

Woods has been out on indefinite suspension for his role in an off-campus brawl in June, one which led to a pair of felony battery charges. The 6-foot-3, 193-pound redshirt senior notched a 68-934-1 receiving line last season and should provide a big boost to the Owls' passing game once he's shaken off the rust. FAU will be gunning for its first three-game winning streak since 2013 when they do battle with North Texas on Saturday.

Miami sophomore WR Ahmmon Richards (hamstring) is not listed on the team's injury report in advance of Saturday's game against Syracuse.

While we're still taking a wait-and-see approach to Richards when it comes to his game-availability -- he went so far as to warm up against Georgia Tech this past weekend but did not ultimately play in that contest -- all signs at this juncture are pointing toward the sophomore wideout being able to give it a go versus the Orange on Saturday. He has managed to appear in just two of five games this season due to a hamstring pull sustained in preseason camp, but is an uber-talented offensive weapon when healthy.

One NFL executive believes Oklahoma senior QB Baker Mayfield will be a starting NFL player, an opinion he did not previously hold.

The executive told NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah that initially Mayfield was considered a weak armed, run around quarterback. Now, however, "he's got plenty of arm strength and he definitely has the 'it' factor. He put on a show when I watched him at practice." Mayfield has drawn all types of comparisons, from Russell Wilson to Colt McCoy. Obviously, both have started in the NFL but to varying degrees of success. Mayfield's ability to avoid sacks and find receivers downfield is practically rare.

Florida redshirt senior DE Jordan Sherit underwent season-ending hip surgery.

Sherit (6'4/254) was injured in the fourth quarter of Saturday's loss to Texas A&M. It's a major loss for the Gators. He had recorded a team-leading nine quarterback hurries in six games prior to undergoing the hip procedure, plus 23 tackles (5.0 for loss) and 2.5 sacks. This surgery not only ends his season, but also the redshirt senior's collegiate career. It's been an injury-plagued career. He redshirted as a freshman after tearing his ACL during his senior year in high school and also underwent knee surgery last autumn.
