TCU sophomore DE Devonte Fields has been suspended for the first two games of the 2013 season for violation of team policy.

Despite only being a freshman last year, Fields made his presence felt and is the top pass rusher on TCU's entire roster. He started all 13 games in 2012 and posted 18.5 tackles for loss including 10 sacks. The Horned Frogs open against LSU.

Middle Tennessee redshirt junior QB Brent Stockstill (sternum/collarbone) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against Bowling Green.

Stockstill did not start against Minnesota last weekend and has been ruled out once more for Saturday. He is on the mend from a cracked sternum and separated collarbone. John Urzua will start in his place against the Falcons.
Sep 23 - 5:40 PM

Middle Tennessee junior WR Richie James (ankle) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against Bowling Green.

James injured his ankle in a loss to Minnesota last weekend. He was encased in a boot during the practice week and the Blue Raiders have opted to give him Saturday off to continue to rest up the injury concern. There is no current timetable for his return.
Sep 23 - 5:37 PM

North Carolina senior WR Austin Proehl suffered a broken collarbone in Saturday's game against Duke.

Proehl broke the collarbone while hauling in a 47-yard pass in the first half. This will almost certainly sideline him for an extended period of time, though not necessarily for the entirety of the season. A timetable for his return should be established in the coming days. It's a major loss for UNC.
Sep 23 - 4:50 PM

Arkansas senior WR Jared Cornelius has been diagnosed with a potentially serious Achilles injury.

Cornelius sustained the Achilles injury in the third quarter of Saturday's overtime loss to Texas A&M. After the game, Arkansas HC Bret Bielema said that it "doesn't look good." If the senior wideout is dealing with a tear, that would end his season. Expect clarification as to his status moving forward in the coming days.

Sep 23 - 4:37 PM

Texas A&M freshman QB Kellen Mond completed 14-of-27 passes for 216 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in a 50-43 overtime victory over Arkansas on Saturday.

As a thrower, Mond was up-and-down, making a few incredible throws and making a few head-scratching decisions (the interception was forced into blanket double coverage, for instance). But as a runner, he was consistently dynamite, accruing 109 ground yards on 10 carries. The 6-foot-3, 199-pounder remains extremely raw, but he proved today that he's able to beat a solid SEC foe away from home (this one was played on a neutral site in Jerry's World).
Sep 23 - 4:36 PM

Houston senior QB Kyle Allen was benched in the second half of Saturday's 27-24 loss to Texas Tech.

There's really no easy way to say this: Allen was terrible against what has been the nation's worst defense over the past few years. He went 24-for-39 for 217 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions this afternoon. Meanwhile, Kyle Postma came on and immediately moved the offense, going 8-of-13 for 100 yards and a touchdown while providing value as a runner. The Cougs have a quarterback decision to make. Allen, the Texas A&M transfer, has turned the ball over six times in his first three games as a Cougar (four interceptions and two fumbles).
Sep 23 - 4:31 PM

FSU freshman QB James Blackman completed 22-of-38 passes for 278 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 27-21 loss to NC State.

First start of Blackman's collegiate career and his performance looked it for much of the contest. He did show moxie on several deep-ball throws and was consistently able to find Auden Tate (who caught nine passes for 138 yards and a score) before Tate left the game with a shoulder injury in the second half. Blackman will make career start No. 2 against Wake Forest next weekend. Saturday's defeat essentially ends Florida State's shot at the Playoff.
Sep 23 - 4:13 PM

Georgia Tech sophomore RB KirVonte Benson rushed for 196 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries in Saturday's 35-17 win over Pitt.

Benson and his fellow Yellow Jacket backfield mates absolutely destroyed Pitt on the ground, racking up 436 yards rushing as a team. For his part, the 5-foot-9, 211-pound sophomore notched a five-yard touchdown in the second quarter and then helped salt the game away with a 47-yard scoring gallop midway through the fourth quarter. This huge effort by Benson surpassed the entirety of his prior output. Entering action on Saturday, he had rushed for 150 yards and a touchdown in two games.
Sep 23 - 3:57 PM

Kansas sophomore RB Khalil Herbert went off for 291 yards and two scores on 36 carries in Saturday's 56-34 loss to West Virginia.

Herbert had only three carries for 10 yards in the first two games despite playing in both and being listed as the starter. While what happened in those two games remains a mystery to us -- perhaps he was dealing with a nagging injury -- Herbert has exploded the past two weeks. He had 137 yards and two scores in last Saturday's loss to Ohio before his supernova showing today.
Sep 23 - 3:50 PM

Appalachian State redshirt junior RB Jalin Moore (leg/foot) is starting against Wake Forest on Saturday.

Moore was labeled a game-time decision after coming up injured in the second half against North Texas last weekend. Just how much of a workload he is able to handle remains to be seen. Terrence Upshaw figures to see his fair share of carries, too, particularly if Moore looks limited early.
Sep 23 - 3:39 PM

Cal sophomore WR Demetris Robertson (undisclosed) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against USC.

Robertson also missed last Saturday's win over Ole Miss due to the undisclosed injury concern. Look for Vic Wharton and Kanawai Noa to see expanded looks in his absence.
