Former NFL scout John Middlekauff talked to multiple personnel members who dislike the possible Combine changes that could affect academically ineligible players.

"Multiple area scouts were not for it, believing it would just make the process more difficult, bailing out the NCAA (and) not helping the NFL," Middlekauff tweeted. Another scout questioned, "Isn't the Combine about the medical aspect of the player? What does his GPA have to do with that?" A decision does not seem imminent at this time.

Arizona State redshirt junior WR Jaelen Strong has the makings of a late first- or early second-round pick, according to one NFL scout.

"He’s big physical and competitive with great hands," the scout told the SI duo of Thayer Evans and Pete Thamel. "He’s not a burner. He’s probably 4.53 in the 40, but Marques Colston and all these guys get in the league and do really well. He’s one of those." SI cites sources saying Strong is expected to declare. Strong is another member of a great receiver group, along with DGB, DeVante Parker, Devin Funchess and Kevin White. Rotoworld's Josh Norris would take those four over Strong at this time.

According to SI's Inside Read, Boise State redshirt junior RB Jay Ajayi is expected to declare for the NFL draft.

Pete Thamel and Thayer Evans cite industry sources. "He’s something to look forward to," one scout said, calling the running back a second-day pick. The SI duo has heard some scouts prefer Ajayi over former Boise State first-round pick Doug Martin.

Thayer Evans and Pete Thamel spoke with one NFL scout who believes Georgia junior RB Todd Gurley could be a top-16 pick.

Like others, the scout believes Gurley is improving his draft evaluation by missing time. "He can’t get hurt," the scout said, pointing to the fact that Gurley was one pace for a career high in carries. Georgia is applying for Gurley's reinstatement, and it will likely be granted. We would not argue with a team that selects Gurley in the top 15.

Georgia is applying for junior RB Todd Gurley's reinstatement on Wednesday, according to a school announcement.

"The NCAA and UGA have been working together on Gurley's situation, so UGA's request seems almost assured of being approved," beat writer Seth Emerson writes. If granted, Gurley will likely be eligible to play in meaningful game action immediately. In the announcement, Gurley accepted responsibility for the mistakes he made and added he's excited to return to the field. The running back has missed the last two contests during the investigation.

Sports Illustrated's Chris Burke ranks UCLA redshirt junior QB Brett Hundley No. 37 overall on his big board.

It's always nice to meet like-minded individuals. We've been low on Hundley for the better part of two seasons, though we'll concede it's difficult to grade a toolsy QB playing behind a shoddy offensive line. Is skittishness in the face of pressure Hundley's nature? Or is it a result of circumstance, a bad habit that can be coached out of him at the next level? Nobody can be sure, but we can tell you that we wouldn't invest the type of pick that will be required to find out. Neither would Burke. "It has been a much slower progression for Hundley than really anyone had hoped," he wrote. "The dual-threat abilities for the 6-3, 227-pound QB are undeniable. So, too, are the issues Hundley shows in sensing approaching trouble. If he heads to the NFL after this season, a QB-needy team will call his name within the first couple rounds. How long before he's ready for a starting gig?"

Sports Illustrated's Chris Burke ranked Nebraska senior RB Ameer Abdullah as the No. 25 overall prospect and compared him to LeSean McCoy.

"Abdullah is a personal preference over Melvin Gordon," Burke wrote. "Why? Mainly because he's already shown he can be a three-down back, whereas Gordon has been eased into that role by Wisconsin. Abdullah (5-9, 195) has 16 touchdowns and nearly 1,200 total yards this season. His quick-cut running style is reminiscent of LeSean McCoy." The 5-foot-9, 195-pound Abdullah has 1,024 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on a 6.4 YPC average during Nebraska's 6-1 start.

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler believes Marshall senior QB Rakeem Cato "has some likeable traits with his athleticism to evade pressure and arm talent to push the ball downfield."

"However, his inconsistent mechanics, footwork and delivery motions can be maddening and his ball placement wavers too much, especially on the move," Brugler wrote. "Cato also lacks NFL size with a skinny frame and will likely go undrafted, projecting as a smaller, not as refined version of his childhood friend, Teddy Bridgewater." Last time out against FIU, Cato broke Russell Wilson's FBS record by throwing a touchdown in his 39th straight game. The Thundering Herd star has thrown for 1,912 yards, 19 touchdowns and six interceptions in seven games this season.

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler projects Indiana junior RB Tevin Coleman "as a mix of Darren McFadden and DeMarco Murray."

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Coleman hasn't been held below 100 yards yet this season. He leads the nation with 1,192 rushing yards and 8.8 yards per carry. "[Coleman] is able to gash defenses with his vision to find holes, body control to get skinny and burst to accelerate downfield," Brugler wrote. "He has worked his way into the top-75 discussion as a NFL prospect if he decides to declare early for the 2015 NFL Draft, projecting as a mix of Darren McFadden and DeMarco Murray."

SI's Chris Burke believes USC junior DL Leonard Williams projects as a defensive tackle in the NFL.

Last week, while ranking Williams as his No. 1 overall prospect, ESPN's Todd McShay wrote that Williams' "best projection is as a 5-technique defensive end, but he has the quickness and point-of-attack skills to perform inside as a 3-technique." Basically, that means J.J. Watt's role. "The discussion is not indicative of any uncertainty surrounding Williams' game, but rather confirmation of his wide-ranging game," Burke wrote.

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler suggested West Virginia senior WR Kevin White could be the top receiver on some teams' draft boards in the spring.

Many analysts have been doing backflips over White over the past seven weeks, but this is perhaps the first time one has suggested that the Mountaineer could leapfrog Alabama's Amari Cooper and Michigan's Devin Funchess for top WR billing in the 2015 draft. "Barely a blip on the NFL Draft radar entering the season, White has displayed first round traits this season and is shooting up draft boards," Brugler wrote. "It won't be a surprise if he's the top receiver prospect on some team's draft boards next spring." The 6-foot-3, 210-pound White is on pace for a historic 128 catches, 1,885 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. If WVU finishes strong, he'll get invited to New York for the Heisman ceremony.

LA Times' Scott Wolf reports that Utah HC Kyle Whittingham said he expects to start Utah junior QB Travis Wilson versus USC.

The 6-foot-7, 233-pound Wilson was benched during the UCLA game in the Utes' upset win over UCLA a week ago. Wilson will be back starting at quarterback after Oklahoma transfer and dual-threat dynamo Kendal Thompson struggled in the first half versus Oregon St. HC Whittingham replaced Thompson with Wilson in the second half in their double-overtime win against the Beavers. This season, Wilson has seven TDs and is completing 56.8 percent of his passes, while Thompson has two touchdowns and two interceptions and is completing 59.6 percent of his passes. With the competition still up in the air, we still could see Kendal Thompson make an appearance versus USC if Wilson struggles.
