Draft insider Tony Pauline believes South Carolina junior DE Jadeveon Clowney is "marginally instinctive."

This is one of the two red flags Pauline sees in Clowney's tape. The defensive end "too often pins his ears back and rushes up field, overrunning plays," Pauline tweeted. The latter could be chalked up to his assignment or defensive scheme if coaches wanted Clowney to disrupt the backfield and wreak havoc more than making tackles at the line of scrimmage.

TCU redshirt sophomore DE Devonte Fields surrendered to Tarrant County authorities on Thursday and was released after posting bond of $3,5000, the Associated Press reports.

Fields was "separated" from the university earlier this week pending an investigation into an incident in which Fields allegedly threatened a woman with a gun; her right cheek was swollen and she had a cut under an eye when the police arrived. The former Big 12 defensive player of the year allegedly pointed a gun at his ex-girlfriend and threatened to "blast" her after an argument. Fields is a big-time on-field talent who has led a troubled off-field existence. If these allegations are proven true, he's done at TCU, and his NFL future would be in serious doubt.

The Texas football team was recently given a random drug test, according to Chip Brown of Horns Digest.

Brown suggests this could be the reasoning for the numerous recent dismissals by head coach Charlie Strong. Two players were dismissed from the team this past spring, and Brown points out it was due to failed drug tests. Running back Joe Bergeron, backup safety Chevoski Collins and running back Jalen Overstreet were recently dismissed for violating team rules. Horns Digest notes two more players are under review.

Despite OSU senior Braxton Miller earning a RB grade from a scouting service, CBS Sports' Dane Brugler believes the Buckeye is a viable QB prospect.

During the "first half of last season, Miller was a better RB prospect than at QB," Brugler tweeted. "But he showed clear improvement down the stretch. Loads of potential." We are closer to Brugler's stance than the scouting service. Miller missed a good portion of the 2013 season, but we are excited to see if he develops during his final year under Urban Meyer.

Texas HC Charlie Strong dismissed senior RB Joe Bergeron form the team on Thursday, according to Orange Blood's Anwar Richardson.

Charlie Strong does not mess around. Two days after saying Bergeron run was back "in the mix" at the position, the talented running back is off the team. Bergeron missed a large portion of spring activities due to undisclosed issues that have been linked to academics. Johnathan Gray and Malcolm Brown will combine to make up the Horns' backfield.

UCLA head coach Jim Mora Jr. hopes the NFL does not use black QB stereotypes with redshirt junior Brett Hundley.

"People have a tendency at times to see an African-American quarterback and say, 'Oh, he’s a runner.' I hate that stereotype and I always have," said Mora. "I don’t want that to happen with Brett, and I’m going to make sure that it doesn't, because it shouldn't. The guy’s a passer." Hundley has had plenty of passing responsibilities at UCLA, and while the statistics have been kind, we see plenty of room for improvement on tape. Specifically, Hundley needs to show pocket awareness more often, improve his accuracy when on the move, and stop dropping his eye level when moved off his spot.

Auburn senior QB Nick Marshall paid roughly $1,100 in fines, and his marijuana possession case is now considered closed.

The Tigers' quarterback's mother Shalena Cliett paid the fines, with approximately $1,000 going for Marshall's possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and $100 being assesses for illegal window tint. Auburn coach Gus Malzahn still hasn't decided on a punishment, though Marshall was not allowed to go to SEC Media Days or Auburn's ESPY appearances. If the quarterback is suspended, Jeremy Johnson would ascend to No. 1 QB duties.

Baylor's Bryce Petty and Oregon State's Sean Mannion share the top senior QB grade from one NFL scouting service, according to NFL.com's Andy Fenelon.

The senior quarterback class is not strong this season, but we would place Utah State's Chuckie Keeton in the top spot. Petty's biggest issue is pressure. He frequently looks great against defenses that are overwhelmed by Baylor's offensive prowess and many times is fortunate to see receivers running open. Mannion might be even worse against pressure and is less mobile. We doubt either one are first-round picks.

Incoming Rutgers offensive coordinator Ralph Friedgen said he worked this spring to clean up a mechanical issue in senior QB Gary Nova' throwing motion.

"I’ve made one correction with his mechanics," Friedgen said. "He threw the ball on his toes, which puts a lot of pressure on your arm and can lead to arm problems. I was always taught, especially when I was in the NFL, to put your heel in the ground and push off like you’re a pitcher and then get your waist and hips right. It seems to have helped him." This is an important fix, as the former Maryland boss figures to throw more than his predecessors. "My philosophy is to have a balance between run and pass," Friedgen said. "If you’re only one dimensional then they’re going to make you play left-handed and I don’t like to play left-handed. I like to take what the defense gives us."

Washington suspended sophomore QB Cyler Miles for the season opener at Hawaii.

Washington coach Chris Petersen's tenure isn't off to the start he'd hoped. Miles missed spring practices while serving a three-month suspension. He was reinstated in May, but Petersen didn't believe full penance had been served. Miles was allegedly involved in an assault along with WR Damore’ea Stringfellow, who was eventually booted from the team. Miles appeared in eight games last year as Keith Price's backup and is the heavy favorite to replace him as starter. Sophomore QB Jeff Lindquist and redshirt freshman QB Troy Williams are now expected to duke it out to take the first snap of the fall.

Former Washington State redshirt freshman QB Tyler Bruggman will transfer to Louisville.

Bruggman announced the news on Twitter. The redshirt freshman was competing for the No. 2 quarterback job before transferring. Louisville was one of the four schools Washington State released Bruggman to.

USC junior DL Leonard Williams said he played at 65 percent strength/health last season due to a torn labrum.

Williams claims he is currently at 95 percent strength and has gained 15 pounds, as he now weighs 305 pounds. Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman notes Williams just turned 20 years old. If that was Williams at 65 percent, we are pretty excited to see the defensive lineman close to 100. He has a great chance of being this year's top prospect on the defensive side of the ball.
