Former Virginia and Alabama junior QB Phillip Sims will transfer to Winston-Salem State.

WSSU is a Division II program, so Sims will be eligible to play immediately. This is Sims' third home since starting his college career, and he has struggled to sustain his play at each previous destination. Sims will likely have two more seasons of eligibility.

NFL Draft Analyst Ben Allbright believes that USC redshirt sophomore QB Sam Darnold will return to school for his 2018 season.

This could be a bombshell for the 2018 class. While the 6-foot-4, 220-pound quarterback hasn't been as magnificent as he was as a redshirt freshman, there's no denying that Darnold is a big-time prospect for the NFL, and there are certainly teams that will pick high that have needs at that position. If he does, in fact, not enter the draft, it's a boon for potential pros like Josh Rosen and Lamar Jackson.

Baylor head coach Matt Rhule announced that Baylor sophomore QB Zach Smith is still the starter.

Smith (6'3/215) was pulled from Saturday's game against West Virginia, but Rhule insisted that it was because Smith was struggling with flu-like symptoms Saturday evening, and not because he was struggling. Backup quarterback Charlie Brewer ended up engineering a frenzied fourth quarter comeback, which led to questions about who Baylor's quarterback will be going forward. Rhule said the following about that: "You know, I think we'll practice today and tomorrow. We have a lot of confidence in Zach. He went into the game feeling terrible and his numbers were pretty good. He's been our quarterback, so I would say that if we played today Zach would be the quarterback." It's an endorsement, but not a ringing one. Baylor gets Texas on Saturday.

Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst ruled senior WR Jazz Peavy (leg) for Saturday's game against Illinois.

Not only that, but Chryst revealed that Peavy will take a leave of absence from the team. "He’s working through his ankle injury and also is going to take some time away to work through some personal things," Chryst said. Peavy (6'1/184), who has missed the past two games against Purdue and Maryland with a leg injury, has recorded only five catches for 55 yards this season.

Nebraska HC Mike Riley announced that sophomore RB Tre Bryant (knee) will undergo season-ending knee surgery.

Bryant (5'11/200) ended up appearing in only two games this year. Because of that, Riley believes he's a prime candidate to receive a medical redshirt waiver. We agree he's a slam-dunk case. Bryant should enter next season with three more seasons of eligibility remaining. He showed tremendous promise when healthy, posting 299 yards (5.9 YPC) and two touchdowns in two games.

Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo announced that junior QB Zach Abey (head) is in the concussion protocol.

Per Niumatalolo, "he's fine." The coach believes Abey will be ready for Temple on Thursday, Nov. 2. Luckily, Navy is one a bye this weekend. Abey was knocked out of Saturday's game against UCF with the injury.

Kansas State football coach Bill Snyder said he doesn't know when redshirt junior QB Jesse Ertz (knee) will return, but that it's possible it could be this weekend against Kansas.

Ertz has missed the last two games with a knee injury. In his place, Alex Delton was rock solid in last Saturday's 42-35 loss to Oklahoma. Snyder reaffirmed that Ertz is the team's No. 1 quarterback when healthy. Ertz wasn’t seen on the sideline during the game. "Jesse is healthier now," Snyder said. "I’m not sure where we’ll be and won’t know that … at some point in time in the week we will but I’m not sure when. He’s back on his feet and going pretty well right now."

Miami sophomore TE Michael Irvin Jr. was suspended indefinitely.

"Irvin just hasn't done what he's supposed to do off the field and until he does, we won't let him play," head coach Mark Richt said. Irvin Jr. previously served a one-game suspension in the Russell Athletic Bowl last year. A backup TE, Irvin Jr. has three catches for 39 yards on the year.

SEC Country's Mike Griffith cites a source saying Tennessee's upcoming game with Kentucky is "critical" in order for Butch Jones to keep his job.

Tennessee is currently 3-4 on the season coming off a 45-7 loss to Alabama, but that game apparently does not impact Jones' status. He is now 33-26 over the last five seasons with the Vols. That Kentucky game is on Saturday and the Wildcats currently boast a 5-2 record.

Texas freshman QB Sam Ehlinger did not practice on Sunday after being hit in the head during Saturday's game against Oklahoma State.

Many were calling for Ehlinger to be sidelined, but it did not happen. Ehlinger stayed in the game and then threw an interception in overtime to end it. Ehlinger's style is aggressive, as he takes hits other quarterbacks don't. This specific play saw Ehlinger sprint to the right in overtime and be taken down by two Cowboys, ending with his head slamming into the ground.

Florida State junior RB Jacques Patrick is "most likely" out for the season with a knee injury.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher told reporters Patrick tore cartilage in his knee. The junior was splitting time with freshman Cam Akers, so expect the first year player to see an even larger workload now. Patrick apparently finished the game despite the injury.

Football Scoop's Zach Barnett reports that Georgia Southern has fired HC Tyson Summers.

The nail in Summers' coffin came when the Eagles were blown out 55-20 by a previously win-less UMass squad on Saturday. That loss dropped Georgia Southern to 0-6. Summers managed just a 5-13 record since assuming the helm in December of 2015. Per Barnett, TE coach Chad Lunsford will take over as interim head coach with Summers being shown the door.
