Maryland has suspended sophomore RB Wes Brown for the year.

Brown’s attorney said his client has agreed to a one-year suspension from Maryland rather than face a university hearing. There is a chance that the running back returns following the fall semester if he hits certain benchmarks, but Brown will enroll at a community college in the meantime. All charges were dropped against brown, but this was part of the plea deal.

Oregon senior DE Torrodney Prevot has been suspended indefinitely due to his being investigated for a criminal offense.

According to The Emerald -- Oregon's student newspaper -- a former student has filed a complaint with the police alleging that she was assaulted twice by Prevot this year. This case would explain why the 6-foot-3, 225-pounder was not listed on the depth chart released on Friday. Last season, he recorded 48 tackles (7.5 for loss), 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

FSU named redshirt freshman QB Deondre Francois the starter for their Week 1 showdown with Ole Miss.

Francois was already a lock to start in that marquee Monday matchup after Sean Maguire broke his foot earlier this month. This makes it official. The 6-foot, 191-pounder ranked as the 247Sports composite's No. 64 overall prospect (No. 3 pro-style quarterback) in the country for 2015. Maguire practiced on Friday and should be able to return at some point in mid-September, but Francois is the fantasy play here by a country mile.

Senior Bowl executive director and Alabama announcing analyst Phil Savage said that he believes that Alabama redshirt junior QB Cooper Bateman will see the first snaps against USC in the season-opener.

"Based on what I saw [Wednesday]," Savage told WNSP 105.5 FM, "I get the sense that we'll see Cooper Bateman and Jalen Hurts in the first couple of games with Nick Saban and the staff trying to figure out who really gives them the best opportunity long-term by the third game of the year." Savage's predictions line up with earlier reports about Bateman and Hurts. In April, Saban said that he held a slight edge due to his general experience compared to that of redshirt freshmen Blake Barnett and Jalen Hurts, with Hurts separating from Barnett over the summer.

FSU strength coach Vic Viloria was arrested on suspicion of DUI on Saturday morning.

According to the police report, authorities came upon Viloria passed out at the wheel of his truck at a traffic light. After an officer woke him, he reportedly said that he had consumed "three big drinks in his office on FSU campus." The university responded with a statement, saying, "We are aware of the reported incident and are in the process of gathering more information. The issue falls under the human resources policies for university employees, which restricts further comment at this time."

Miami senior WR Stacy Coley's status with the university remains uncertain due to his potential involvement with a luxury car rental service.

A pair of key Hurricane defenders in Al-Quadin Muhammad and Jermaine Grace were dismissed from the program on Saturday due to this luxury car scandal. Coley was reportedly being investigated for his potential role in the situation as of August 20, but at least for the time, he remains with the university. In the same breath, though, Coley has not yet been cleared to play in the season-opener against Florida A&M next weekend. If the university moves against him in the form of a dismissal, that would be a painful blow for a Miami offense that is working to rebuild its skill-position talent.

LSU four-star 2017 verbal QB commit Lowell Narcisse tore his left ACL.

Narcisse suffered the season-ending injury while attempting to make a juke move on a run in the final minutes of Friday's game for St. James High. He immediately clutched his knee and was attended to by trainers. After the game, the 6-foot-3, 224-pounder managed to walk gingerly to the bus under his own power with an ice pack on the knee. Narcisse also tore his left ACL last spring, so his health is worth watching as National Signing Day rises over the horizon this winter.

Marshall dismissed senior S Tiquan Lang due to a violation of team rules.

No word as to what the precipitating incident was that led to Lang's outright dismissal. The 5-foot-9, 172-pounder had previously gotten into trouble this offseason after he was arrested in early May on suspicion of DUI, possession of a concealed deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance, so this most recent unknown incident might have just been the nail in the coffin. Lang registered 91 tackles and two pick-sixes last season.

Miami dismissed redshirt junior DE Al-Quadin Muhammad and senior LB Jermaine Grace.

The dismissals stemmed from an investigation into the use of luxury cars from a rental company. In a statement, HC Mark Richt said, "The decision [to dismiss Muhammad and Grace] was made in consultation with outside counsel and after discussions with the NCAA enforcement staff." The only true positive here is that Miami will not be facing sanctions over the situation. Muhammad and Grace are both legitimate losses, as Muhammad produced 54 tackles (8.5 for loss), five sacks and a forced fumble last season while Grace led the team with 79 tackles.

Western Kentucky named redshirt junior QB Mike White the starter for 2016.

Sometimes, the expected outcome just takes a little while. White didn't immediately run away in the competition with senior Tyler Ferguson -- as recently as two weeks ago, HC Jeff Brohm at least hinted that that Saturday's scrimmage had left the race somewhere near a dead heat. The 6-foot-5, 195-pound White closed out camp in style to win the starting gig, though, with Brohm saying that he has "done a nice job preparing himself for this moment and operates our offense well." The USF transfer has yet to find success at the collegiate level -- he completed just over half his passes and held an 8/7 TD/INT ratio in 2014 before shifting over to the Hilltoppers at the end of that season -- but if he has taken to the offense, he could post huge numbers for the coming campaign.

Cal redshirt junior WR Chad Hansen caught 14 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns in Friday's 51-31 win over Hawaii.

Hansen hauled in a pair of first-half touchdown passes from new best friend Davis Webb. This monster performance surpassed almost the entirety of his 2015 season. A year ago, the 6-foot-3, 190-pounder caught 19 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown. His fantasy outlook will become more clear once we have a larger sample size.

Cal senior QB Davis Webb impressed in Friday's 51-31 win over Hawaii, completing 38-of-54 passes for 441 yards and a 4/0 TD/INT ratio.

Webb -- who transferred to Cal from Texas Tech this offseason -- wasn't particularly sharp early, but he began to find his groove as the contest progressed. He found Chad Hansen for a 17-yard score midway through the first quarter, then hit up Hansen a second time near the end of the second. The 6-foot-5, 209-pounder would score on a four-yard rush with seven seconds to go before halftime, to boot. Webb would throw two more touchdown passes in the second half to complete a nice, relatively easy debut with the Golden Bears. Cal will have next weekend off, but Webb and company figure to see a much stauncher test against San Diego State on September 10.
