Alabama sophomore CB Geno Smith was arrested on a DUI charge early Sunday morning.

Smith started two games and played in 13 as a true freshman last season. "This is obviously not the kind of behavior we expect from our players," Nick Saban said in a statement. Alabama continues to search for a starter opposite Deion Belue, and this certainly won't help Smith's chances.

CBS Sports' Rob Rang calls USC junior DL Leonard Williams a "physical mismatch" who could entice the Raiders at the number one pick.

The Raiders are set at quarterback with Derek Carr. Rang sees as Williams as a "physical mismatch too quick for interior lineman and too powerful for offensive tackles" to handle. Rang previously noted that scouts were comparing the 6-foot-5, 290-pound junior to such current NFL studs as J.J. Watt and Gerald McCoy. A prime example of Williams' ability to dominate came several weeks back, when he recorded eleven tackles and a sack against Stanford, earning him Pac-12 Player of the Week honors.

Miami junior OT Ereck Flowers underwent a surgical procedure on his knee on Wednesday.

It's uncertain how long Flowers will be out of duty for the Hurricanes. Head coach Al Golden didn't have an update on Flowers' status beyond "as soon as we get information, we'll get it to you." He'll almost certainly miss Saturday's tilt against North Carolina and it remains to be seen if the tackle will return this season. Jon Feliciano is expected to start in his place for as long as he's out. In his time starting (he has started all seven games this season), Flowers has impressed NFL scouts with his base strength. As CBS Sports' Dane Brugler notes, "another year at the college level could elevate his draft projection" for the 2016 NFL Draft, as Flowers still needs to improve in his "hand use, patience and overall timing."

Colorado State HC Jim McElwain has earned admirers in NFL circles, according to Sports Illustrated's Pete Thamel and Thayer Evans.

"Scouts are impressed by McElwain’s ability to develop talent," the duo writes, citing Weston Richburg and Crockett Gillmore as examples from last year. Offensive tackle Ty Sambrailo will likely be a day two selection, according to one NFL scout. "He’s done a hell of a job," the scout said. "He’s a great coach." McElwain does have NFL experience as the Raiders quarterbacks coach in 2006.

Sports Illustrated's Thayer Evans and Pete Thamel spoke with one NFL scout who questioned if Oregon redshirt junior is an "alpha male."

"Like if you punched him in the stomach, he might apologize to you," the scout said. "I just don’t know if he’s that alpha male that you’re looking for. This kid’s a kind of fly on the wall kind of guy." The scout went on to say he thinks the Duck is a competitive player, but does not believe Mariota will be a franchise "savior" from year one and will take some time in the NFL. We have never spent time playing in the NFL, but these comments are such rubbish if they are graded equally with on-field skill. These "personality" assessments were brought up with Teddy Bridgewater last year, and other prospects were criticized for having opposite personalities in previous years. With how many real concerns teams are faced with when evaluating prospects, a quarterback being "too nice" is a manufactured one.

Utah senior WR Dres Anderson will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

Anderson, who has an NFL future, caught 22 passes for 355 yards and four touchdowns this season. He mainly played the slot in Utah's multiple receiver offense and was able to get vertical or use fluidity to work in the intermediate areas of the field. His season might not have built on a breakout 2013 campaign, but Anderson should still get a look in the NFL.

Texas A&M OC Jake Spavital said the best way for a QB to learn is putting him with the second team offense.

Interesting. "You’re going to have protection issues, and you get to see how creative you can be by extending that play or finding your hot answers," Spavital told the media. "You also get a feel for when your run game isn’t working, what you need to do on the perimeter." Working inside and outside of structure and showing comfort with both is something we always discuss. Spavital just re-opened the team's starting quarterback competition between Kenny Hill and Kyle Allen.

When asked for his response to the first set of CFB Playoff rankings, Alabama head coach Nick Saban said "none of it matters."

"I mean, it only matters where you end up at the end," Saban began. "So I don't even care, to be honest with you. Don't know and don't care." The Crimson Tide still face LSU, Mississippi State and Auburn, so obviously their season is not even close to being over. Alabama was slotted at No. 6 in the first set of rankings.

The NCAA has told Georgia junior RB Todd Gurley he must sit an additional two games, bringing the total to four.

He would be eligible on November 15, which would be Georgia's game against Auburn. The school is appealing the ruling and the review will take place this week. The punishment is "for accepting more than $3,000 in cash from multiple individuals for autographed memorabilia and other items over two years," the NCAA writes, adding Gurley must pay some of the money he received to a charity. The running back will miss games against Florida and Kentucky.

Mississippi State redshirt junior QB Dak Prescott (foot) said he will be "ready to go" against Arkansas on Saturday.

Prescott had a walking boot on his right foot after the Bulldogs' 45-31 victory over Kentucky last Saturday. "It's nothing really ... I'm wearing the walking boot for fashion," he said. "Nothing there, nothing to see, nothing to worry about. I'll be ready to play. Like I said, it's nothing serious. So I'll be ready to go, ready to lead my team out there Saturday."
Oct 28 - 8:38 PM's Bucky Brooks wrote that he would go "all-in" on Washington junior OLB Shaq Thompson if asked to place a wager on a prospect with "the potential to skyrocket during the run up to the draft."

"[Thompson] is unquestionably one of the top defenders in college football with the size, speed and athleticism to wreak havoc on opponents as a versatile defender on the edge," Brooks wrote. "He has the first-step quickness and burst to blow past blockers on blitzes, while displaying the instincts, awareness and cover skills to pick off errant passes in coverage." Of course, Thompson has also been allowed to show off his chops out of the backfield as a running back this year. "Utilizing the same athleticism, speed and burst that make him a terror off the edge, Thompson has churned out big plays on the ground by exploding to the second level on inside runs off zone-read action," Brooks wrote. The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder should be a first-round pick as an outside linebacker, though it won't hurt that he could also fill in at running back or safety.

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher announced senior RB Karlos Williams will play Thursday against Louisville.

Fisher declined to comment on Williams' case. Williams is being investigated for domestic battery. On Tuesday, the alleged victim's attorney asked the Tallahassee Police Department to drop its investigation. "She doesn't want to make any comments on the facts of the case," the alleged victim's lawyer, Nathan Prince, said. "There aren't any witnesses that have provided testimony." Prince believes someone alerted the school and police after internet rumors swirled over the weekend that Williams' girlfriend had been beaten.
