Miami updated their depth chart for the season opener against FAU, and senior Seantrel Henderson was not listed as the starter at RT.

Redshirt junior Jon Feliciano is apparently starting in his place. Henderson has generated his share of headaches during his time with the Hurricanes, but the mammoth offensive lineman appeared to put those issues behind him last season with solid play. Nothing has been reported regarding if the demotion is related to an off-field issue, but we think it certainly isn't skill related. Al Golden could be sending a message to Henderson. We think he can be as good as he wants to be.

ESPN's Matt Schick spoke with an NCAA official who said there is a "95-percent chance" that transfer rules will be changed to allow student-athletes to play immediately.

As the rule currently stands, only graduate transfers are eligible to play immediately with their new teams. All other student-athletes moving to a different program must sit out a season unless they are granted a waiver. A rule change on this front would likely cause a sea change for the landscape, as we would almost certainly see a considerably higher number of players on the move. Schick suggests that a "non-grad transfer window" would be helpful in keeping some control over the process. One other note on this potential rule change -- the official whom Schick spoke with said that there would likely be academic requirements for immediate transfers. None of this is up for a vote as of yet, but it's something to monitor over the offseason.

Pitt and West Virginia will square off to open the 2022 season.

The two squads have renewed the Backyard Brawl with a scheduled four-game series from 2022-25, with the first contest in the set to be played on Sep. 3, 2022. Pitt will host that contest, as they will for the 2024 contest, with West Virginia hosting the other two games. While the Panthers hold a 61-40-3 overall record in the series -- it's a series that began in 1895 -- the teams have not played each other since Nov. 25, 2011, when West Virginia emerged victorious by a 21-20 score.

FAU hired Atlanta Falcons offensive assistant Charlie Weis Jr. to serve as offensive coordinator.

Weis, 24, will take over for OC Kendal Briles, who left for the same position at Houston earlier this winter. He's the son of former Notre Dame and Kansas HC Charlie Weis and earlier worked on Alabama's staff (2015-16) as an analyst while Owls HC Lane Kiffin was with the Tide. Said Kiffin, "He's way ahead of his time in how he sees the game, his football IQ and just his overall intelligence. He's been around the game with his dad being a coach, a lot like I was when I was growing up, and has a bright future." It's difficult to project exactly what kind of offense the uber-young, unproven Weis might install with the Owls, at least at this early juncture. His father largely ran pro-style concepts, though also occasionally dabbled in the spread. This will be one to watch over the offseason as the youngster tries his coordinating hand for the first time.

Oklahoma redshirt senior QB Baker Mayfield has signed with Jack and Tom Mills for representation.

The agency is based in Boulder, Colorado, which might be more of a coincidence than anything else. Capital Sports Advisors represented many Oklahoma football players in the 1970s and 1980s, but have not been as active in recent years in terms of top names. In fact, Mayfield will easily be the group's top name at quarterback. Mayfield is currently training in Los Angeles and will attend the Senior Bowl next week.

Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports reports that Maryland OC Walt Bell will become the new offensive coordinator at Florida State.

Bell spent one year at Maryland, and came over to the Terrapins after working in the same capacity at Arkansas State. Prior to working for the Red Wolves, he was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for North Carolina. He was also rumored to be a candidate to become the new coordinator at Alabama.

Washington State QB Tyler Hilinski passed away in his apartment on Thursday, with Pullman police investigating his death as a suicide.

Hilinski was 21-years-old. As a sophomore, Hilinski played in eight games and threw for 1,176 yards with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions. The police report indicates that he was found in his apartment with a note and what is being reported as a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The case is still being investigated.

Notre Dame dismissed four players, including junior WR Kevin Stepherson.

Stepherson has been in and out of trouble since stepping on campus, so his banishment isn't a surprise. The last straw came last month, when the Irish suspended Stepherson indefinitely following multiple arrests, including a shoplifting charge. Stepherson was also charged with marijuana possession prior to the 2016 season alongside teammates Max Redfield, Te’von Coney, Dexter Williams and Ashton White. If he can get his head screwed on straight, Stepherson could help most any team in the country. The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder had 19 catches for 359 yards and five touchdowns in 2017 despite missing a total of five games due to suspension.

Arizona State redshirt junior QB Brady White transferred to Memphis as a graduate.

Because White (6'2/193) has already graduated, he's immediately eligible to play. Luckily for Memphis, he has two years left to play. The Tigers just lost Riley Ferguson to graduation. The pocket-passing White makes plenty of sense as his replacement -- if he can finally live up to his recruiting hype. A former top-75 overall recruit, White was unable to beat out Manny Wilkins at ASU.

USA Today's Dan Wolken reports that UNLV will hire former Florida LB coach Tim Skipper to serve as defensive coordinator.

Skipper worked as Florida running backs coach from 2015-16 before shifting over to the defensive side to work as linebackers coach for the 2017 campaign. Gators HC Dan Mullen opted not to retain him with his new staff. Prior to his time in Gainesville, Skipper put in stints with Colorado State (2012-2014) and Fresno State (2009-11). While he served as co-defensive coordinator with the Bulldogs, this defensive coordinating gig with UNLV will be his first with the full title.

Rutgers hired Los Angeles Chargers TE coach John McNulty to serve as offensive coordinator.

News of McNulty's impending hiring broke last week, with Rutgers making it official on Tuesday. His only other spot working as a coordinator at the collegiate level came with these same Scarlet Knights from 2007-08. He's spent the vast bulk of career working as an assistant in the NFL. While his extensive experience working in pro-style offenses would seem to fly in the face of the spread attack that HC Chris Ash is attempting to build in New Jersey, McNulty worked with Marcus Mariota in Tennessee (2014-15) and is not completely raw to more up-tempo spread concepts. He specifically mentioned Mariota when speaking to his offensive approach at his new job, saying, "I think it will be a good mix of what we did with the Chargers, a version of that and some things I did in Tennessee with Marcus Mariota as a rookie. I got to study that system extensively out in Oregon and it will also lean towards accentuating the positives of our personnel."

Sports Illustrated's Bruce Feldman reports that Washington has promoted co-DC/DB coach Jimmy Lake to defensive coordinator.

Lake will take over defensive coordinating and play-calling duties from Pete Kwiatkowski, who remains on staff. He's served as co-defensive coordinator each of the past two seasons and has been with the program since 2014. We don't see this move shifting things considerably for better or worse. Washington played fantastic defense under Kwiatkowski and should continue to do so under Lake. He'll be out DT Vita Vea (lost to the draft), but received good news earlier this winter with announcements of return to Seattle for both DT Greg Gaines and S Jojo McIntosh.
