ESPN's Kevin Weidle wrote that Alabama senior ILB C.J. Mosley is "the best LB I've seen in a phone booth since Sean Lee."

"Leverage, heavy hands, instincts to absorb and shed in proper direction," wrote Weidle. Mosley could have been a Top-15 pick in last April's draft, but he elected to return for his final season of eligibility. The veteran linebacker is not a natural pass rusher, but he is great in coverage, has superlative sideline-to-sideline range and can change directions as quickly as a nervous politician. This is one of the top players in the nation at any position.

TCU senior QB Trevone Boykin completed 26 of 42 attempts for 246 yards, one touchdown and one interception, adding 92 rushing yards and a touchdown in the school's 23-17 win over Minnesota.

Boykin is not an efficient passer. He was not last season, especially against Minnesota, and that same player showed up Thursday night. Boykin did look more decisive and produced an excellent run resulting in a touchdown. However, Boykin has a long way to go if the goal is to be a composed, stable quarterback. Coaches will hate his mechanics at times, but others have compensated for those deficiencies with skill. TCU faces Stephen F. Austin next.

Baylor senior DE Shawn Oakman has been suspended for the season opener against SMU on Friday, according to Jason King.

King adds the length of the current suspension is for one game for a violation of team rules. The edge rusher did travel with Baylor to Dallas to face SMU. Oakman is one of the higher profile players in all of college football, but off-field issues did lead him to Baylor via Penn State. More information should be available after the game. Sophomores Brian Nance or K.J Smith will likely start in his place.

Nebraska suspended six players -- linebacker Michael Rose Ivey, defensive back Jonathan Rose, offensive lineman Robby Painter, tight end Cethan Carter and defensive end Joe Keels -- for the season opener against BYU.

The reason cited for each one was a violation of team rules. Rose-Ivey is the only starter in the group. It seems that all of them will return for Week 2 against South Alabama.

Ohio State HC Urban Meyer said he will inform his QBs on Saturday of which one will start versus Virginia Tech on Monday.

That means we will likely find out who will start on Saturday as well. Meyer went on to say that both quarterbacks might not play against Virginia Tech (Cardale Jones' latest medical scare could be a reason), but that both will play this season. All signs point to J.T. Barrett starting versus the Hokies.

Ohio State QB Cardale Jones is "doing fine" on Thursday after he was rushed to the hospital Wednesday night for a severe migraine, according to beat writer Bill Rabinowitz.

Who knows what the prognosis is for Cardale moving forward, or even this is a recurring condition like it was for Percy Harvin. If cleared, expect to see Jones play against Virginia Tech, whether he is named the starter or not. That game kicks off Monday night.

FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher pointed out Everett Golson's big play ability when asked about his decision to name the Notre Dame transfer the school's starting QB.

"He can throw the ball down the field," Fisher said. "He can create big plays with his legs when he has to, but the thing I’ve very pleased with is (he makes) great decisions when he’s in the pocket, and doing the things he has to do with his versatility and athleticism." This is a facet of Golson's game that Josh Norris has pointed to. During coaching clinics, Fisher emphasized the importance of big plays and how they can be high percentage snaps if the quarterback respects and utilizes his checkdown. We don't think Sean Maguire offers these skills.

Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood expects to announce his starting 2015 quarterback at halftime of the opener against Norfolk State.

Sophomore Chris Laviano is suspended for the first half, which means the results of his battle with Hayden Rettig don't need to be announced until he's eligible to return. "Hayden Rettig is the starting quarterback," Flood said. "We’re going to evaluate the first half and we’ll make a decision at halftime as to how we’re going to proceed." Star wide receiver Leonte Carroo is also suspended for the first half, so it really wouldn't be fair to evaluate Rettig based on those 30 minutes. Flood is playing coy for competitive reasons against a team his squad should blow off the field. This is also called being annoying.

ESPN's Andrea Adelson "would be shocked" if Louisville sophomore QB Reggie Bonnafon is not the starter against Auburn.

Bonnafon made a few starts last year, compiling a 5:4 touchdown to interception ratio while completing 51 percent of his passes with a 7.2 yards per attempt average. None of those numbers stand out, however, Bonnafon did flash with mobility as a freshman, scoring five times on the ground.

Rutgers redshirt sophomore edge rusher Kemoko Turay is listed as questionable for the season opener with an upper body injury.

College injury reports are not required and specifics can be very hard to come by. The Scarlet Knights open with Norfolk State, so Turay might not be needed in the first week. If we were asked to peg a breakout defensive player this year, it would be Turay. He combines explosion with flexibility and power.

Auburn named sophomore Roc Thomas the school's starting RB.

The position has recently produced huge rushing totals, with Tre Mason and Cameron Artis-Payne shining under Gus Malzahn. Quarterback Nick Marshall is gone, but there seems to be plenty of optimism around Jeremy Johnson. In limited action, Thomas rushed for 214 yards and two touchdowns on 43 carries last year. Auburn utilizes plenty of motion and misdirection, which plays in the runners' favor.

Former Oklahoma State RB/WR Tyreek Hill has enrolled at West Alabama and will be in uniform on Saturday.

Hill's fallen a long way from drawing comparisons to former West Virginia standout Tavon Austin. He was dismissed from the Cowboys following a December arrest on a domestic violence charge, intimated in the spring that he would be joining the Akron Zips, did not join the Akron Zips and now lands at West Alabama's Division II program. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound athlete entered a plea deal for three years of probation and a deferred sentence last week, which perhaps helped to facilitate his finding a new football home.
