NFL.com's Charles Davis drew a comparison between UCLA redshirt sophomore QB Brett Hundley and Colin Kaepernick.

"I think he's everything NFL teams are looking for in a quarterback," Davis writes. "He's mobile, but he's very accurate throwing the ball, too... I don't see any deficiencies in Hundley's game. He has good height, and he's not skinny. His arm isn't a pop gun -- he has plenty of strength." After comparing Hundley to Kaepernick, Davis noted he believes the UCLA player is a more accomplished passer than Kaepernick was at this point of his career, but a less gifted runner. We understand the love for Hundley, but he is far from refined and made plenty of mistakes early against Nebraska. If we had to pick one redshirt sophomore quarterback, it would be Oregon's Marcus Mariota.

NFL Media's Albert Breer spoke to one area scout assigned to FSU who said redshirt sophomore QB Jameis Winston "is a fraud."

The scout opened by saying Winston's latest actions will hurt him significantly, especially with the recent events occurring in the league. "You can't believe anything he says, because he keeps doing the same things over and over," the area scout added. "In my mind, there are night-and-day differences between (Johnny) Manziel's and his character concerns. Winston has some serious issues." Breer notes he gets the feeling from NFL people that the image Winston has put forward is "manufactured." We think this situation and the draft process needs to play out. It is September.

Pro Football Focus tabbed redshirt junior QB Marcus Mariota with Oregon's top offensive grade in their week two matchup against Michigan State.

In fact, Mariota was the only Oregon player who received a very positive grade, in this case of a 2.6. We should note, These grades are an opinion and an evaluation, but PFF does a great job of watching every play. Of the 2.6 grade, 1.2 was in the passing passing game and 1.3 as a runner. What is noteworthy is PFF only tabbed Mariota with two runs in the whole game. As our own Josh Norris has said, Mariota does not receive enough credit for how comfortable he is in the pocket and he uses athleticism as a passer, not just a runner.

Auburn junior WR D'haquille Williams hauled in eight receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown in a 20-14 win versus Kansas State on Thursday.

The JUCO transfer already has 21 catches for 324 yards and two touchdowns through three games. Williams, who goes 6-foot-2, 216 pounds, has impressed us with two traits key to next level projection: Speed and ability to win in contested situations thanks to outstanding hops. ESPN's Mel Kiper wrote last week that Williams "could be the big juco breakout newcomer of the season," adding that the newcomer "jumped on my radar last season when he simply destroyed junior college competition for a second straight year at Mississippi Gulf Coast." Back in December, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn told reporters he expected to throw more in 2014 thanks to the signing of Williams. He'll continue to do just that.

Texas State redshirt senior LB Mike Orakpo will miss the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL and MCL.

Former Longhorn Brian Orakpo's little brother suffered the injury in last weekend’s loss to Navy. TSU head coach Dennis Franchione described it as "not a pretty sight to see." Michael Orakpo's collegiate career is now over, as he won't be eligible to apply for a sixth season of eligibility. It'll be interesting to see if he garners interest in the draft, as Orakpo is an underperforming freak of an athlete. At 230-plus pounds, he benches 565 pounds, has a vertical of 41.5 inches, and runs a low 4.5 in the 40-yard dash.

Ohio State junior DE Noah Spence is still practicing with the team despite his indefinite suspension.

"Yeah, he actually practiced today," Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer said. "He's doing things to get healthy, but he's also -- you know, we're supporting him." Spence was suspended for the school's bowl game as well as the first two games of 2014 after testing positive for ecstasy back in January. He was set to return last weekend but failed another drug test, leading to a suspension of indeterminate length. ESPN.com's Adam Rittenberg recently reported that it's a "long shot" Spence will be cleared to return. "You know, the only comment I'll make on the whole situation is that it's a tough deal for Noah and his family and we're going to support him the best we can throughout the situation," co-defensive coordinator Chris Ash said Saturday. "If he gets an opportunity to play football again one day, great. But we're here to help him receive the help that he needs."

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler spoke with multiple scouts who are more concerned with Jameis Winston's "issues" than Johnny Manziel's.

Brugler agrees with this statement, but adds "I don't like comparing off-field issues among prospects because each is so uniquely diff. They're lumped into similar categories and they shouldn't" be. There is SO much time remaining in the draft process, so it is far too early to determine where Winston might be selected.

Texas Tech DC Matt Wallerstedt has been fired, with OLBS coach Mike Smith taking his position.

Smith had always been listed as the co-defensive coordinator, but the role is now fully his. Fox Sports' David Ubben notes Smith will become the sixth different defensive coordinator in the last seven years. The Red Raiders allowed 35 points to Central Arkansas, 26 to UTEP and 49 to Arkansas.

ESPN's Mel Kiper admitted to initially overstating Washington senior DT Danny Shelton's "ability to move and get up the field."

Rotoworld's Josh Norris has been persistent that Shelton's six sacks this season are an aberration, and it seems like Kiper agrees once watching the film. Shelton ranks as Kiper's No. 22 overall prospect.

One NFL scout texted Yahoo Sports' Dan Wetzel that FSU redshirt sophomore QB Jameis Winston "keeps filling up the 'recurring stupidity' column."

Winston will face similar attention to what we saw surround Johnny Manziel last year. Their "off-field issues," which will continue to be a buzz word, are different, but that does not mean you will not see them mentioned or compared. There could be an argument to be made that plenty of over-correction is occurring in Jameis' case, however, some teams really will factor in these actions more than others.

ESPN's Mel Kiper has dropped FSU redshirt sophomore QB Jameis Winston to No. 25 overall on his big board.

Winston started the year as the top player on Kiper's big board. "At a time when NFL teams are going to be more sensitive than they ever have been about the off-field actions of their players -- and rightfully so -- Winston has reached a point with these issues where my sense is that a number of teams would have pulled him off the board if the draft were held tomorrow," Kiper writes. "It's that simple." The evaluator does believe Winston has time to "prove doubters wrong," however.

Former Ole Miss HC and USC interim coach Ed Orgeron turned down the Nicholls State job.

Nicholls State athletic director Rob Bernardi confirmed to CoachingSearch.com that he talked to Orgeron about taking over after Charlie Stubbs resigned as coach on the heels of an 0-3 start. Orgeron declined, citing a "commitment he made to his wife and family for this season," according to CoachingSearch.com. Orgeron's home in Mandeville, La., is very close to the Nicholls State campus. You'll hear his name connected to head coaching jobs this winter; there aren't many better recruiters in the business.
