Clemson senior QB Tajh Boyd completed 24 of 37 attempts for 244 yards and three touchdowns against NC State.

He added 38 rushing yards on 13 carries. Boyd felt plenty of pressure against the Wolfpack and responded fairly well. Chad Morris' offense is awesome to watch and NFL teams looking for a new offensive coordinator will likely take note, but Boyd has been very impressive himself. His pocket movement and throwing platforms stand out. He and Zach Mettenberger have been the top senior performers at the position this season.

Princeton received a verbal commitment from four-star 2018 QB Brevin White.

White (6'1/163) took visits to North Carolina and Washington State this offseason, but the four-star gunslinger has opted to forego the FBS in order to try to attain Ivy League glory. Rivals ranks him as the No. 11 pro-style quarterback in the 2018 class, while Scout.com's Greg Biggins notes that he "throws a tight ball, is a smart quarterback and shows a lot of courage standing in the pocket." White is the younger brother of Arizona State QB Brady White.

Notre Dame received a verbal commitment from four-star 2018 LB Shayne Simon.

Simon (6'2/195) was also considering Penn State and Michigan for his pledge. The Nittany Lions had a little momentum going as the summer progressed, but Notre Dame kept at it and ultimately landed the prize. Simon, who ranks as the No. 6 outside linebacker in the 2018 class on the 247Sports composite. Outlet analyst Steve Wiltfong writes that he "has the full tool bag and will bring a ton of versatility to ND’s defense." Wiltfong goes so far as to say that his position versatility is reminiscent of that of former Irish star Jaylon Smith.

Michigan HC Jim Harbaugh said that redshirt senior QB Wilton Speight is "tied for first" in the quarterback competition.

"Legitimately went through competition throughout the spring, went through 15 practices and it was a dead heat," Harbaugh said. He indicated that it would take around 8-15 practices in camp before the competition has its champion. Speight is battling it out with John O'Korn and Brandon Peters.

NFL.com analyst Daniel Jeremiah compares Oklahoma redshirt senior QB Baker Mayfield's playing style to Colt McCoy coming out of Texas.

"Both guys were big-time winners in college and I think Mayfield, like McCoy, will have a long NFL career as a solid No. 2 QB," he wrote. Jeremiah also sees some of Johnny Manziel at Texas A&M in Mayfield, but doesn't think that comparison quite encapsulates it because Manziel was a "little more dynamic than Mayfield as both a passer and runner." The analyst loves Mayfield's improvisation and ability to escape the pocket when his first two reads are covered. "He has excellent touch on underneath throws (swings, bubble screens, shallow crossers, etc.) and his deep-ball touch is above average," Jeremiah wrote. "He doesn't have a huge arm, but he flashes the ability to drive the ball." However, Jeremiah says Mayfield "has a long way to go" before becoming an NFL starter because his "accuracy on drive throws is concerning," "his feet get very busy" inside the pocket and he sometimes bypasses easy completions.

Four-star 2018 WR Brennan Eagles committed to Texas.

Eagles, the No. 94 overall prospect in the ESPN 300, chose the Horns over a host of suitors that included Clemson and Oklahoma. ESPN sees Eagles (6'3/214) as a strong slot/possession receiver who could be highly dangerous in the red zone. "He has a long, rangy frame and shows good burst off the line," wrote Tom Luginbill. "He uses his hands well to catch the ball away from his body and does a good job of finding the open window in zone coverages. He has adequate speed, but is not a burner ... He is much better as a jump-ball guy." For those reasons, Luginbill comps Eagles to Texas Tech WR Derrick Willies, another big, rangy receiver with ball skills and body control.

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline reports that Boston College senior edge rusher Harold Landry is the "top-rated senior prospect" on the lists of "most" NFL scouts and is reminiscent on tape of Syracuse great Dwight Freeney.

"Landry is a tremendous pass rusher off the edge and a defender opponents gameplan around," Pauline wrote. "He beats blockers off the snap with a great first step and beats them around the edge with tremendous speed or exploits them with agility and devastating inside moves." Landry had 16.5 sacks last year despite constant double teams. Listed at 6-foot-3, 245 pounds, Pauline thinks he's more like 6'2/250 (and maybe even a little shorter). Because of that, the analyst thinks he could "line up as a one-gap end" and "also see time as a 3-4 OLB as he has the athleticism necessary to play in space." Earlier this month, NFL.com analyst and former NFL scout Daniel Jeremiah compared Landry to Vic Beasley.

According to the Gainesville Sun, Florida freshman LB Nick Smith underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee on Monday.

He'll be out for at least six weeks. That leaves Smith out for summer camp and the 2017 opener Sept. 2 against Michigan (at least). A redshirt year could be coming. This is a tough blow for Florida, which returns just four LBs who have started a game for the Gators. Smith was the No. 79 OLB in the country in this past cycle.

Michelle Bodkin of UteZone.com reports that former Oregon redshirt senior WR Darren Carrington will transfer to Utah as a graduate.

This is an enormous coup for the Utes, who add a receiver who immediately becomes their most talented. Transitioning into the pass-first, up-tempo, quick-hitting system run by new OC Troy Taylor (formerly of Eastern Washington), Carrington is precisely the type of WR1 this attack makes great use of. Think Cooper Kupp. Carrington (6'2/200) is similar in size to Kupp (6'2/205). He's also faster and more explosive, though Taylor will have to teach him the finer points of route running and ball-snatching that made Kupp so special at EWU. Carrington (career 112-1,919-15 line at UO) was booted off the Ducks by new head coach Willie Taggart following a DUI charge on July 1 (the receiver pleaded not guilty on Monday). Since Carrington has graduated, he's immediately eligible to play. The Utes were unproven and thin at WR before today. If Carrington stays out of trouble, he could be in line for a big year. His addition also alleviates pressure on Raelon Singleton, the Utes' leading returning WR

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer said DC Greg Schiano was offered two "significant" head coaching jobs this offseason.

Schiano turned both jobs down and will coach at Ohio State for at least another season. Eleven Warriors astutely notes Schiano's twin sons graduate from high school after this year, so he might be willing to move once they go off to college. This will be his second season with the Buckeyes.

Tennessee has requested media members who are in attendance to not report on injured players they observe during open portions of practice.

Basically Tennessee officials are asking for only positive P.R. Butch Jones and company are certainly on the hot seat, and this screams "scared." It could be a very difficult season for the Vols.
