Ohio State senior S Christian Bryant will miss the remainder of the season with a broken ankle.

Bryant is an NFL prospect after starting 22 of 31 games prior to the season. He has already undergone surgery but is not eligible for a medical redshirt tag. The recovery time is expected to be around three months, so Bryant should be healthy for the Combine and pro day circuit. Sophomore Ron Tanner will likely replace Bryant in the starting lineup.

247Sports' Johnson Jarrett reports that Texas Tech sophomore QB McClane Carter will start Friday's game against Texas.

We'll have to wait for confirmation from the Red Raiders before this one can be called official, but it appears that HC Kliff Kingsbury will look to see what he has in true sophomore Carter. Nic Shimonek would be pushed to the bench in the process. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Carter, a JUCO transfer over the offseason, has completed 7-of-9 passes for 122 yards with a 2/0 TD/INT ratio in three games of limited action this season.

Sports Illustrated's Bruce Feldman reports that Mississippi State is looking to lock up HC Dan Mullen with a contract extension.

Per Feldman, the Bulldogs are "all in" on keeping Mullen with the program and would be willing to offer him an annual salary in the vicinity of $6 million (he's currently making $4.5 million). While Mullen has been floated as a potential candidate for the open jobs at both Florida and Tennessee, he reiterated his commitment to Mississippi State following Thursday's Egg Bowl, saying, "I’m happy with what we’ve built. I think it’s pretty special" and later adding, "What we’re going to continue to do is build the program in the right direction."

TCU redshirt senior QB Kenny Hill (concussion) is warming up with the first team in advance of Friday's game against Baylor.

Hill sat out last Saturday's win over Texas Tech while on the mend from a concussion. He looks to be good to go against the Bears barring a late setback. Shawn Robinson, who started in his place versus the Red Raiders, is not expected to be available to back Hill on Friday due to an undisclosed injury. Should Hill be forced out, Grayson Muehistein would come on in his place.

Mississippi redshirt junior RB Jordan Wilkins ran for 147 yards and two scores in a 31-28 victory over Mississippi State on Thursday.

Almost all of Wilkins yardage came from two plays, but they were two big plays, and Ole Miss won't be complaining. He opened the game with a 22-yard burst that gave the Rebels a 7-0 lead with 14:16 left in the first quarter. He was held in check for the rest of the first half, but then in the fourth quarter, he again gashed the Bulldogs for a 42-yard score that made it 31-13 and essentially put the game away. In a disappointing year for Ole Miss, Wilkins and a few others -- namely AJ Brown -- inspire hope for the 2018 season.

According to ESPN's Chris Low, Lane Kiffin would be "on board" if Tennessee called him about their coaching vacancy.

We are all here for this kind of chaos. Kiffin coached the Vols for the 2009 season, between his stops with the Raiders and USC. It did not end well, as Tennessee fans acted ridiculous upon his departure. Kiffin's first season with FAU has been impressive, but it remains to be seen if it is a "one and done" situation with Kiffin and the Owls.

Michigan is working on a lifetime contract with Jim Harbaugh, according to CBS Sports' Brady Quinn.

Quinn wasn't exactly firm in his comments, but he did cite "an insider within the program." There have been slight mentions of Harbaugh being interested in the NFL, but those likely come from outside the program and possibly rival schools who want a recruiting advantage.

Tennessee dismissed junior WR Jauan Jennings following an Instagram video in which he criticized the coaching staff.

Jennings went so far as to say in the video that "the coaching staff is holding us back" while throwing out words like "lying" "snake" and "fake" to describe the coaching staff. In a statement, interim HC Brady Hoke said that the decision to dismiss Jennings was made "in consultation" with AD Jack Currie. The 6-foot-3, 201-pound junior wideout is currently sidelined with a season-ending wrist dislocation suffered in the opener against Georgia Tech. The wideout's next move is not currently known -- Jennings could potentially jump for the draft or he could pursue a transfer.

Multiple outlets are reporting that Chip Kelly is leaning toward accepting the open head-coaching position at UCLA.

There have been an avalanche of various reports regarding Kelly and his future job plans in the last 12 hours. ESPN's Mark Schlabach reported early on Wednesday morning that Kelly had met with UCLA officials on Tuesday and would be deciding between Florida and the Bruins in the coming days. He reportedly met with Florida officials on Sunday. While two outlets reported earlier on Wednesday that Kelly-to-UCLA was a done deal, one of those reports (by 247Sports) has subsequently been pulled and there has been no official word from the Bruins as to a hiring. CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd is reporting that a decision one way or another is likely by Sunday. At this juncture, Kelly is not expected to take a job outside of either UCLA or Florida, though USA Today hears that Arizona State might be enticing if the Sun Devils opt to move on from Todd Graham.

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline was told by one evaluator that USC redshirt sophomore QB Sam Darnold possesses physical skills that are "Hall of Fame caliber."

Scouts from a multitude of NFL teams were on hand for this past Saturday's big showdown between USC's Darnold and UCLA's Josh Rosen. Writes Pauline of Darnold, "His arm strength, foot quickness and ability to pull a rabbit out of the hat when there is seemingly nothing available was incredibly impressive to scouts." Scouts were also keen on Darnold's ability to bounce back from mistakes. As for a few demerits, Pauline notes that the redshirt sophomore still has much work to do on the fronts of "technique, ball security and defensive reads." The consensus among the analyst's little scouting birds is that Darnold would be well-served by returning to USC next season.

Michigan redshirt freshman QB Brandon Peters remains in the concussion protocol.

Michigan passing game coordinator Pep Hamilton said that Peters is "progressively getting better" and "seems to be a lot better than what he was after Saturday." The redshirt freshman sustained the concussion after taking a hard hit from a Wisconsin defender while unloading a pass in this past weekend's defeat. While Peters has not been ruled out for The Game against Ohio State on Saturday, we're already at the midway point of the week and he's still awaiting medical clearance. Our best guess is that John O'Korn draws the starting assignment versus the Buckeyes. Stay tuned.

Florida redshirt senior QB Luke Del Rio is opting not to use his sixth available year of eligibility.

Del Rio had one year eligibility left, but will leave that on the table. His career with the Gators has been a health-challenged one, especially of late. The 6-foot-1, 213-pounder has undergone two shoulder surgeries -- both on the same shoulder -- over the last calendar year. Most recently, he went under the knife after sustaining a hard hit against Vanderbilt at the end of September. He finishes his career with the Gators having thrown for 1,637 yards (56.6% completions) with a 9/9 TD/INT ratio. Those numbers accurately reflect what we saw on the field from the quarterback, who played competently -- but never spectacularly -- when given the opportunity.
