Washington junior TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins "does not seem to have improved as a blocker or route runner" this season, according to NFL.com's Gil Brandt.

"Right now he is teetering toward the end of the first round, possibly into the second, but because of the importance of tight ends he could very easily move up as high as the middle of the first round if he picks up his play," Brandt adds. We think Seferian-Jenkins is one of the better inline tight ends in the country because of his combination of reliable blocking and body control as a receiver. he doesn't possess the same quickness as others, but the junior is still an impressive receiving target.

Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood expects to announce his starting 2015 quarterback at halftime of the opener against Norfolk State.

Sophomore Chris Laviano is suspended for the first half, which means the results of his battle with Hayden Rettig don't need to be announced until he's eligible to return. "Hayden Rettig is the starting quarterback," Flood said. "We’re going to evaluate the first half and we’ll make a decision at halftime as to how we’re going to proceed." Star wide receiver Leonte Carroo is also suspended for the first half, so it really wouldn't be fair to evaluate Rettig based on those 30 minutes. Flood is playing coy for competitive reasons against a team his squad should blow off the field. This is also called being annoying.

ESPN's Andrea Adelson "would be shocked" if Louisville sophomore QB Reggie Bonnafon is not the starter against Auburn.

Bonnafon made a few starts last year, compiling a 5:4 touchdown to interception ratio while completing 51 percent of his passes with a 7.2 yards per attempt average. None of those numbers stand out, however, Bonnafon did flash with mobility as a freshman, scoring five times on the ground.

Rutgers redshirt sophomore edge rusher Kemoko Turay is listed as questionable for the season opener with an upper body injury.

College injury reports are not required and specifics can be very hard to come by. The Scarlet Knights open with Norfolk State, so Turay might not be needed in the first week. If we were asked to peg a breakout defensive player this year, it would be Turay. He combines explosion with flexibility and power.

Auburn named sophomore Roc Thomas the school's starting RB.

The position has recently produced huge rushing totals, with Tre Mason and Cameron Artis-Payne shining under Gus Malzahn. Quarterback Nick Marshall is gone, but there seems to be plenty of optimism around Jeremy Johnson. In limited action, Thomas rushed for 214 yards and two touchdowns on 43 carries last year. Auburn utilizes plenty of motion and misdirection, which plays in the runners' favor.

Former Oklahoma State RB/WR Tyreek Hill has enrolled at West Alabama and will be in uniform on Saturday.

Hill's fallen a long way from drawing comparisons to former West Virginia standout Tavon Austin. He was dismissed from the Cowboys following a December arrest on a domestic violence charge, intimated in the spring that he would be joining the Akron Zips, did not join the Akron Zips and now lands at West Alabama's Division II program. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound athlete entered a plea deal for three years of probation and a deferred sentence last week, which perhaps helped to facilitate his finding a new football home.

UCLA has suspended junior CB Ishmael Adams indefinitely in response to a Monday arrest for robbery.

Adams was arrested on campus in relation to a robbery charge on Monday. He's being accused of stealing a cellphone by force from an Uber driver. Tuesday saw his release from jail on bail, as well as an indefinite suspension from the Bruins. The 5-foot-8, 180-pound junior had started every game over the last two seasons. UCLA opens their season against Virginia on Saturday, while Adams is due in court on September 22.

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer anticipates playing redshirt sophomore QB J.T. Barrett and redshirt junior Cardale Jones "throughout the course of the season."

This is not a surprise, and we expect to see Braxton Miller at quarterback in some packages despite his receiver listing. Meyer handled a two quarterback system quite well at Florida, using Chris Leak and Tim Tebow, resulting in a national title. It is still unclear which quarterback will see the first snap against Virginia Tech.

Rutgers senior DL Darius Hamilton will miss the season opener against Norfolk State due to a lower body injury.

Hamilton had hoped to be available for the first game but was limited during preseason camp. Many draft evaluators have mentioned Hamilton during the offseason as an unheralded defensive lineman who can surprise. We really like his teammate Kemoko Turay, but the combo is quite impressive.

Kansas State has decided on redshirt sophomore Jesse Ertz as the school's starting QB, according to beat writer Timothy Everson.

ESPN's Brett McMurphy said the football staff views Ertz as a combination of Jake Waters and Collin Klein, the two former starters. How convenient. Ertz could offer more mobility than Waters showed last season (484 yards and nine touchdowns on 3.1 yards per carry).

Colorado State junior WR Rashard Higgins' hamstring has been fully cleared, according to HC Mike Bobo.

Higgins dealt with the hamstring issue during preseason camp, but last year's receiving leader is all set for the season opener against Savannah State. His workload could be reduced in that game. Either way, it will be interesting to see if there's a difference in CSU's offense under Mike Bobo after Jim McElwain's flourished.

UCLA junior CB Ishmael Adams was released from jail on Tuesday morning following his arrest on robbery charges.

Adams is scheduled to meet in court on September 22. The corner is accused of using force to steal a cellphone from an Uber driver. Adams started every game over the last two seasons. UCLA stated they have no further comment other than stating they are aware of the issue. The Bruins face UCLA in the season opener.
