Miami sophomore RB Duke Johnson has averaged 2.9 yards per carry in four career games against ranked teams.

Johnson has accounted for 127 yards on 44 carries. It is a surprising stat, since Johnson is one of the top running backs in the country and is known for busting off huge plays. The sophomore does offer a physical style to his game despite a lean frame, but has dealt with head injuries in the past. The Seminoles defense swarms to the football.

TCU redshirt sophomore DE Devonte Fields "has been separated from the University pending results of an investigation into the allegations against him," according to a statement from the school.

The announcement is in reaction to the news that Fields is a suspect in a domestic disturbance call stemming from a Sunday morning incident in Fort Worth, Texas. This is not Fields' first off-field incident, and TCU has taken a hard stand as of late in similar cases. It is difficult to doubt Fields' talent, but his future with the school likely hinges on the investigation.

In April, UCLA HC Jim Mora Jr. said sophomore LB/RB Myles Jack will only begin practicing on offense when the season starts.

"He's a package player on offense and we're not going to put those packages in until the season starts," Mora explained. "He's not going to take a snap on offense in training camp either. He won't take a snap on offense until we get to game weeks. It's more important that he fully come to grasp that linebacker position." Jack impressed when he carried the football, but he spent more quality time as an edge rusher. Mora even said letting Jack solely play running back in a handful of games was a mistake.

Oklahoma HC Bob Stoops reiterated that under no circumstances will senior TE Blake Bell be moved back to QB.

"Not at all. He is the prototype tight end. Great hands. Can run," Stoops said. Many evaluators were hoping for Virginia Tech's Logan Thomas to make the move from quarterback to tight end, especially following his Combine numbers (for the record, we think it was wise not to). Those evaluators will have to settle for Bell. However, the biggest question is: can he catch, especially in contested situations? Trevor Knight is firmly planted as the team's starting quarterback after his superstar performance against Alabama.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn told ESPN's Numbers Never Lie that he hasn't yet decided on a punishment for senior QB Nick Marshall.

Marshall received a citation for marijuana possession earlier this month. "He'll have some things he'll have to pay for," Malzahn said Monday on the television show. "I have not decided that for sure right now, but it will be in a short period of time I'll have that figured out." Malzahn called Marshall "the face of the program" who, prior to the incident, had "been a model student, citizen, all of the above." Jeremy Johnson will take over if Marshall is suspended for any length of time, and Malzahn believes he is NFL-caliber. "(Johnson is) another outstanding quarterback I think will play at the next level," he said. "He played two games last year and was the SEC Offensive Freshman of the Week. We're in good shape there."

TCU senior WR Brandon Carter is unlikely to play this season, reports the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

TCU head coach Gary Patterson said Carter "probably will not play this year. Academically he will not make it." Carter was arrested in April on possession of marijuana; charges were later dropped. Patterson's response to a question about whether he wanted Carter to stick around the school to regain eligibility was ominous. "No. He has a redshirt year and I think the best thing for him is to get a new start," he said. "It's setting a precedent - you have to go to school." Carter was a five-star recruit who caught 90 passes for 1,312 yards with nine touchdowns over the past three seasons. His NFL prospects are precarious at best.

Auburn HC Gus Malzahn said senior Nick Marshall is the first returning starting QB in his eight years as a college coach.

This is remarkable. Obviously Malzahn had a National Championship winning season with Cam Newton and took Nick Marshall and Auburn to the same game in his first season as the Tigers' head coach last year. Marshall seemed to improve as a passer as the season went along, but the focus is running the ball with play action off of it.

Oklahoma State HC Mike Gundy told reporters JUCO OW transfer Tyreek Hill will receive 15-20 touches per game.

It has been said that Hill will play the Percy Harvin/Tavon Austin role for the Cowboys this season, seeing time as a receiver and ball carrier. The Junior College transfer has junior eligibility, and he is already getting billed as the Big 12's newcomer of the year.

At Big 12 Media Days, Kansas HC Charlie Weis said teams playing without a mobile QB means they are playing with 10 men versus 11.

It is an interesting idea and something that many college teams are definitely implementing, in some cases sacrificing passing ability for mobility. It really is up to what the team's head coach and/or offensive coordinator wants to implement. We think there are different types of mobile quarterbacks. For example, Jameis Winston is not an agile ball carrier, but he is very aware and evasive in the pocket. Obviously it is ideal to find a quarterback that combines both skills, but the Andrew Lucks and the Cam Newtons are rare.

FSU redshirt sophomore QB Jameis Winston acknowledged criticism with his throwing motion and is working to shorten it.

"This year I will be holding the ball higher so I won't be so elongated," Winston said. Some reporters noted the quarterback said his baseball career likely factors into his delivery. "Winston said he's worked on limiting off-balance throws -- in other words, not as much reliance on arm strength, but total body throws," CBS Sports' Jeremy Fowler tweeted. Many are focused on Winston's throwing motion in regards to time, saying a defensive back could get a beat on his passes and defend them. While that might be true, the bigger change could come in the form of improved placement. Winston is by no means inaccurate, but many of his receivers adjusted to passes to come down with difficult catches.

LSU HC Les Miles said he is in no hurry to name a starting QB.

Sophomore Anthony Jennings took over for injured starter Zach Mettenberger during the final part of the 2013, but he is not locked in for the same gig this year. His top competition might be freshman Brandon Harris. This could be drawn out until LSU kicks off against Wisconsin on August 30.

FSU redshirt sophomore QB Jameis Winston told reporters he got up to 252 lbs following last year's awards circuit and has since dropped 20 lbs.

As for next year's offseason? "Only salads," Winston told Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman. Every single one of Winston's steps will be critiqued and criticized, but we are not worried about this development. Winston stayed busy during the offseason as a member of FSU's bullpen. He is not an overly mobile quarterback outside of the pocket, and has plenty of awareness combined with great eye level to evade rushers between the tackles.
