Saints quarterback Drew Brees said Texas A&M redshirt sophomore QB Johnny Manziel will "absolutely" be a starter in the NFL.

"He's got all the playmaking ability to be a great player," Brees said. "[There are] guys like [Manziel] in this league. Russell Wilson and his ability to run the football and extend plays outside the pocket and throw the ball down the field. Intermediate [routes], I mean he can do it all." The 6-foot-1 Manziel is expected to forgo his final two seasons of eligibility and enter the 2014 NFL Draft. "I think the physical qualities are not nearly as important as the psychological qualities of playing the quarterback position," Brees said. "Certainly you have to have some level of throwing ability and fundamentals and that kind of thing. But speed, height, arm strength those things are way overrated when playing the quarterback position."

Chris Balas of The Wolverine reports that Michigan junior QB Shea Patterson will be ruled eligible to play by the NCAA in 2018.

The report indicates that Patterson could be ruled eligible as soon as Friday. The former Ole Miss quarterback transferred to Michigan after the NCAA sanctions against the school, and he was appealing for a chance to play immediately because he was misled by former coach Hugh Freeze about the severity of the sanctions. It's huge news for the Wolverines, as Patterson is considered to be among the best quarterback prospects in the 2019 NFL Draft class, and flashes big-time ability in his time with Mississippi. It appears Jim Harbaugh has his answer at QB for 2018.

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline believes that the Browns will trade up to the 18th pick to draft either UCLA's Kolton Miller or Notre Dame T Mike McGlinchey.

The 18th pick belongs to the Seahawks, and Pauline believes the Browns will give up the top pick in the second round and the last pick in that round in order to take whichever tackle is available. That's very likely Miller, as McGlinchey is reportedly going to go in the first dozen picks at this point. This feels a need for the Browns -- who need to replace Joe Thomas -- and the Seahawks, who need to replace the draft picks they lost in trade.

NFL.com National Insider Ian Rapoport reports that the Browns believe Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield is not similar on or off the field to Johnny Manziel.

Rapoport notes that the two players came from different offenses -- with Manziel's offense much more spread-based -- and also that Mayfield is a "much better thrower than Manziel ever was." Rapoport also mentions that the off-field arrest of Mayfield was a much different circumstance than the issues Manziel has had off the field. It's looking more and more likely that Mayfield is going to be the first player taken Thursday night.

Bleacher Report's Matt Miller reports that the Jets coaching staff is making a late push for Wyoming QB Josh Allen.

This is interesting, as there are reports that the Jets' front-office currently prefer Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield as the future signal-caller. Now it appears there may be a divide, which isn't uncommon, but isn't ideal, either. There's a chance that both Darnold and Mayfield will both be off the board, and there's been some late rumors that the Jets could move up to the second pick to secure the services of either QB. This will be fascinating to watch when the Jets are on the clock -- whenever that is.

Brett McMurphy reports that Purdue is signing HC Jeff Brohm to an extension through 2024.

Financial terms aren't known at this time. Brohm, 47, guided Purdue to a 6-6 record this year after the school had gone 9-39 the previous four seasons. There were even reports that Brohm was a candidate to become the new coach of the Titans in November, but that job ultimately went to Mike Vrabel.

NFL Media's Lance Zierlein projects the Chargers to trade up and select UCLA QB Josh Rosen with the 13th pick in his latest mock draft.

Now this is fun. If you're curious -- and we know you are -- Washington has the 13th pick, and they would move down to 17 in this scenario and select Alabama DT Da'Ron Payne. The Chargers have Phillip Rivers still playing well, but you have to wonder how much longer he has left, and getting a signal-caller like Rosen to be the future would be a boon. If Rosen does indeed slide this far, we expect there will be lots of interest in this range to procure his services.

Walter Football's Charlie Campbell passes along that Louisville CB Jaire Alexander has been red-flagged by some due to a concern over the health of his knee.

Alexander missed six games during the 2017 season due to a knee injury and it appears that there could be teams who are scared off by that injury concern. In addition to the knee, the Louisville product also fought through a broken wrist. The 5-foot-10, 196-pounder is a likely first-round selection, though obviously his health could potentially push him onto Day 2.

NFL Media's Lance Zierlein says Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield being the No. 1 overall pick to the Browns "is happening."

Mel Kiper has moved Mayfield to being the first overall pick, as has Daniel Jeremiah. If that is the case, the No. 2 pick with the Giants is now a fascinating selection with Sam Darnold and the trickle down from there.

The Saints placed calls about a potential "big leap" up from No. 27, according to Ian Rapoport.

It would only make sense for a quarterback, top corner or edge rusher. The Saints do not have a second round pick after trading for Alvin Kamara last year, so a trade up would involve their 2019 first round pick.

NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah connected the Ravens with South Dakota State TE Dallas Goedert at No. 16 overall in his final mock.

Jeremiah got his start in scouting with the Ravens. Me mentions the player, team connection might come in a trade down. Most importanlty, Jeremiah makes it clear the Ravens must exit this draft with a tight end, and this would be a statement selection.

The MMQB's Albert Breer relays word that Bears GM Ryan Pace likes Ohio State CB Denzel Ward "a lot."

The Bears are most often connected to Roquan Smith or Tremaine Edmunds in order to upgrade the linebacker group, but Ward has a realy shot of being the pick at No. 8 as the first corner off the board. Breer notes this information comes from people on the Bears staff in 2017.
