Virginia Tech senior CB Antone Exum has been ruled out for the school's regular season finale against Virginia.

Exum has been dealing with an ankle injury after he late return to the field following offseason ACL surgery. The Hokies are also missing senior corner Kyle Fuller after he underwent surgery for a core muscle injury. It helps to have some impressive young pieces in the secondary, however.

Utah State senior QB Chuckie Keeton will likely be held out for the remainder of the season.

"Chuckie's health is our top priority and he has not been cleared to play by our medical staff," head coach Matt Wells said. "We will continue to monitor his progress throughout the fall, but given his current condition it is unlikely that he will play in any games in the foreseeable future." Keeton was obviously not 100 percent healthy this season after tearing the ACL and MCL in his left knee last year, and seemed to favor the leg after nearly every hit. A BYU player stated earlier in the week that he had heard Keeton would be given a medical redshirt, so leave that possibility open.

ESPN's Mel Kiper moved FSU redshirt sophomore QB Jameis Winston up to No. 16 from No. 25 on his updated big board.

"Have bumped him up a little as he's played well after his latest off-field issue, but those questions aren't going away," Kiper writes. "He needs time to prove doubters wrong." The longtime draft evaluator went on to praise Winston's ability to handle the pocket and pressure, adding the quarterback would be wise to improve his ball placement, timing "and again, decision-making."

Louisville senior WR DeVante Parker's broken foot is recovering on or ahead of schedule.

The team will have more info on when he is expected to return, but Parker is already running and working out. Parker was initially given a timeline of 6-8 weeks back on August 25. Josh Norris lists Parker as his No. 2 overall receiver.

NC State redshirt junior Jacoby Brissett "has a lot of Ben Roethlisberger to his game in terms of his poise, pocket presence and how difficult he is for defenders to bring down," according to ESPN's Todd McShay.

"He needs to be quicker in getting from one progression to the next, but I think he sees the entire field well and has good vision as a runner," McShay wrote. The analyst reported that 11 NFL teams scouted Saturday's game against Florida State. Brissett starred in a losing effort, going 32-for-48 for 359 yards and three touchdowns. "He's just a junior and is still a work in progress, but I think he has the physical tools to one day develop into an NFL QB," McShay wrote. "His TD pass in the first half, in which he nearly had his helmet ripped off and then warded off another sack attempt along the right sideline, was one of the more impressive individual efforts I've seen in a long time."

Arizona State HC Todd Graham said senior QB Taylor Kelly is "pretty questionable" for Saturday's game versus USC.

Kelly missed Thursday's loss to UCLA while nursing the unspecified foot injury he suffered in a Sept. 13 win over Colorado. "Taylor has the boot on and stuff, but it’s precautionary," Graham said Monday. "He is running in the pool, he is exercising in the pool and has no pain, so he’s doing really well." If nothing else, the injury came with good timing, as ASU had a bye before the UCLA game and has another one following Saturday's contest against the Trojans. After that, the Sun Devils won't play again until Oct. 18 against Stanford. Backup Mike Bercovici, who threw for 488 yards and three touchdowns against the Bruins, will be called upon again if Kelly can't go.

Former Ole Miss HC and USC interim coach Ed Orgeron is interested in the Kansas vacancy.

"It’s a Power Five (job)," Orgeron said. "(Mark) Mangino went 12-1 and went to the Orange Bowl. It’s in a great conference. His staff proved that you can do it." The Jayhawks have had four head coaches in the last seven years. The school fired Charlie Weis earlier this week after an ugly home shutout loss to Texas. "It’s a challenging job," Orgeron said. "But most jobs you get, there’s gonna be some things you’re gonna have to fix." Orgeron has a career 16-27 record (10-25 at Ole Miss from 2005-07, and 6-2 as the interim boss at USC last year) and is regarded as one of the game's best recruiters, a trait KU will certainly place near the top of its wish list while choosing Weis' long-term successor.

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer believes senior QB Braxton Miller will return to school in 2015, and announced him as starter.

"Braxton is our quarterback," Meyer said. "To be fair to Braxton, Big Ten Player of the Year. But it's good to know we've got both of them." In other words, Miller will start over freshman J.T. Barrett next season regardless of how well Barrett plays this year. Miller, who is out for the year after undergoing right shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum, said last month that he would return to school for the 2015 season. Because he was very close to declaring for the 2014 draft, we'll wait until the winter filing deadline before officially writing him in for the 2016 draft.

ESPN Insider's Steve Muench and Kevin Weidl call West Virginia senior WR Kevin White the No. 1 fastest rising draft prospect in the nation.

"There isn't a player who has helped his stock more than White," the duo writes. "The former juco transfer showed flashes in 2013 but was raw, which warranted a sixth-round grade. The light has come on for White in his second season at West Virginia. He has become a matchup nightmare outside the hashes with an excellent combination of size, speed and strength to win in one-on-one situations. White looks like an early Day 2 prospect at this point." Through only four games, White has 42 receptions, 633 yards and three touchdowns. Muench and Weidl sound high on White, but there are others who are higher. "The guy generating the most buzz right now is the wideout at West Virginia," an AFC scout told NFL.com last week. "He's big, explosive and productive. He looks like a potential first-round pick."

NC State head coach Dave Doeren apologized to FSU for accusing the Seminoles of faking injuries during the schools' game last weekend.

"I left an emotional locker room and took those emotions with me to the press conference," Doeren tweeted. The head coach previously accused FSU of slowing the second half tempo by falling to the ground with fake injuries. Others have accused opponents of such acts, but few head coaches.

One source close to NFL decision makers told Sports Illustrated that FSU HC Jimbo Fisher's "glowing recommendations" of JaMarcus Russell could lead to more questions of similar recommendations for Jameis Winston.

"He told the entire NFL that JaMarcus Russell was a great kid," the source said. "He was a f------ turd then." At the time, Fisher was LSU's offensive coordinator. Evaluators ask college coaches and people around programs endless questions about prospects. In many cases, the answers sway their evaluations. In this case, Fisher's potential praise might not count for very much.

One Big 12 assistant coach told Sports Illustrated redshirt transfer QB Baker Mayfield is "probably" the best QB on Oklahoma's roster.

"It’s really incredible," the assistant said of the path Mayfield has had to take since wanting to transfer from Texas Tech. "He’s pretty damn good." Mayfield started seven games for TTU and was finally allowed to receive scholarship help while attending Oklahoma, however, he is not eligible to play in games until next year. He will then have two seasons remaining of on-field action.
