NFL scouts are still hoping Oregon redshirt sophomore QB Marcus Mariota changes his mind and declares for the draft, according to National Football Post's Len Pasquarelli.

"Mariota said through a university spokesman his stance hasn’t changed, but scouts have not stopped evaluating him, in case he does flip-flop and opt to make himself available in the draft," Pasquarelli writes. We continue to say that too many have the story wrong regarding Mariota requesting an evaluation from the NFL. This was not a new decision, in fact it occurred after Oregon faced Oregon State. While waiting for a response, Mariota decided he would return for the 2014 season. He will not be changing his mind.

ESPN's Sam Khan Jr. reports that Houston has interviewed Alabama OC Lane Kiffin, former LSU HC Les Miles, OC Major Applewhite and DC Todd Orlando for their open head-coaching position.

Per Khan, Houston is expected to make their hire to replace the departed Tom Herman by the end of the week. ESPN's Brett McMurphy previously reported that former Baylor HC Art Briles has also received an interview. Should Kiffin come away with the gig -- Nick Saban is said to be in support of him taking the job -- he is still expected to patrol the Bama sideline during their Playoff-run-to-be.

The Oklahoma Supreme Court has ruled that the videotape of Oklahoma redshirt sophomore RB Joe Mixon punching a woman from summer 2014 is part of the public record.

Mixon was suspended for the entirety of the 2014 season after he was hit with a misdemeanor assault charge on allegation of punching a woman in the face that summer. The restaurant where the incident occurred recorded it on video, but that tape has yet to be released to the public. With the state ruling the video as public record, it will now be released. Oklahoma HC Bob Stoops has repeatedly defended Mixon after he served his suspension, saying over the offseason that he believes the running back has made good and has met "high standards" in the two years since the assault occurred.

Alabama senior ILB Reuben Foster was named the winner of the Butkus Award.

The Butkus Award is handed out annually to the nation's best linebacker. Foster registered 94 tackles (12.0 for loss), four sacks and a pair of passes defended. The 6-foot-1, 240-pounder was also a finalist for the Nagurski Award, but teammate Jonathan Allen ultimately won that honor.

Alabama senior DL Jonathan Allen was named the winner of the Nagurski Trophy.

The Nagurski Trophy is awarded annually to the nation's best defensive player. Somewhat surprisingly, an Alabama player had never won the award prior to the 6-foot-3, 291-pound Allen scooping up the honor. He did so on the strength of 56 tackles (13.0 for loss), 8.5 sacks, 15 quarterback hurries and a pair of fumbles recovered and returned for touchdowns. Allen won the award over fellow finalists Reuben Foster, Clemson's Christian Wilkins, Michigan's Jabrill Peppers and FSU's Tavarus McFadden.

Tennessee senior QB Joshua Dobbs has accepted an invitation to play in the NFLPA all star game.

Dobbs was always a name that popped up in terms of quarterbacks at big programs with potential, but he has improved very little despite a wealth of playing time. Tennessee failed to reach expectations on the field, and Dobbs will do his best during the draft process to earn a draftable grade.

Temple head coach Matt Rhule is taking the same position at Baylor, according to Bruce Feldman.

We wondered where the Rhule buzz went from a year ago, and now we know. Baylor has been connected with many names over the last month, but not once did we see Rhule's name pop up. Rhule, a former Penn State linebacker, has only one head coaching job under his belt (Temple) from 2013 until now. He has not coached any lower than North Carolina and especially not in Texas, so Rhule's recruiting might get interesting with pipelines already in place. Hiring some assistants close to Texas or with ties to the state is likely part of the plan.

Michigan State junior DL Malik McDowell announced he will enter the 2017 NFL Draft.

McDowell is a highly regarded prospect, standing at 6-foot-7 and 290-pounds. The defensive lineman previously said he would only depart for the NFL if he was going to be selected with a top three pick, but there is no way of knowing that this far in advance. McDowell missed a number of games with an undisclosed injury, although some speculation pointed to an ankle issue. He registered 24.5 tackles for loss in three seasons, including 13 sacks.

Notre Dame redshirt junior QB Malik Zaire is visiting Wisconsin and UNC this week, according to Pete Sampson of Irish Illustrated.

Zaire is visiting Wisconsin on Wednesday and UNC on Friday. UNC was not in consideration at first due to release restrictions, but those have now been lifted and Zaire could find his way onto a team Notre Dame plays next season. Sampson notes Auburn has shown interest in Zaire, but "but Zaire’s desire to get away from a run-first spread offense is likely to kill off that courtship before it starts." Florida is on probation form graduate transfers.

Former Tennessee junior RB Jalen Hurd has now turned his attention to the NFL rather than transferring to another program, according to Tennessee radio host Brent Dougherty.

If true, the change in plans is not surprising. Hurd left Tennessee after stating the offense did not fit him, and reports stated he might pursue tight end or receiver at his next school. Hurd's trainer hinted the ball carrier could jump to the NFL, which makes sense than switching positions. Hurd flashed promise at times, but he's a slower bigger back who does not create on his own often enough. He is a very comfortable receiver.

Alabama redshirt freshman QB Blake Barnett announced his transfer to Arizona State.

Barnett left the school in late September and has taken classes at the JUCO level since. He played in the season opener but decided to leave once Jalen Hurts took over as the starter. Alabama beat writer Matt Zenitz notes Barnett will be eligible to play following the fourth game of next season. Barnett has three years of eligibility remaining.

The Heisman Trophy has named five finalists for the award -- Louisville QB Lamar Jackson, Clemson QB Deshaun Watson, Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield, Michigan LB Jabrill Peppers and Oklahoma WR Dede Westbrook.

A nice variety for this year's ceremonies in New York, set for Saturday night. A quick statistical rundown on all parties: Jackson stands as the front-runner after wrapping his season having accounted for 51 total touchdowns (30 passing, 21 rushing) while passing for 3,390 yards and rushing for 1,538 over 12 games. Mayfield has thrown for 3,369 yards with a 38/3 TD/INT ratio, hooking up repeatedly with Heisman friend Westbrook (74-1465-16). The last offensive finalist for the award would be Watson, who has accounted for 43 total touchdowns (37 passing, six rushing). And then there is Peppers, who did almost everything for Michigan this season, finishing out with 72 tackles (16.0 for loss), four sacks, an interception, a forced fumble, 167 rushing yards (plus three rushing scores) and 310 punt-return yards (including a touchdown). All five gentleman have posted immaculate seasons, but the award should be considered Jackson's to lose at this juncture.
