Senior Bowl Director Phil Savage was pleasantly surprised with West Virginia DE Will Clarke's work in practice.

Clarke stands a towering 6-foot-7, 271 pounds and is a surprisingly agile athlete. Although WVU's coaching staff complimented Clarke for his weight room work after showing up to campus as a lean 235-pounder, he'll have to continue bulking up his spidery frame. Savage notes that Clarke looks like he weighs only 240 pounds. "Will has a quick first step and a subtle closing burst to the QB when he gets close," Savage said. "He needs to play lower when confronting direct runs, but has enough agility to pursue from the backside. He will have a busy spring because all 32 NFL teams will want to get to know this 'under-the-radar' prospect better prior to the draft in May."

Tennessee HC Butch Jones said, "We anticipate [sophomore DL Shy Tuttle (leg)] being ready for the first game, but we'll see how that goes."

Tuttle broke his fibula and tore a ligament in his ankle in an October win over Georgia last season (by-the-by, that was the same game in which Nick Chubb suffered a season-ending knee injury). He has been medically cleared to run, but Jones won't be taking undue chances with the 6-foot-2, 311-pounder's health this August. "He's worked exceptionally hard, but it's going to be touch and go every day," he said. "It's going to be how his body works to heal. Every day, we'll know a little something more."

Ohio State HC Urban Meyer and Michigan State HC Mark Dantonio denied that they used negative recruiting tactics to dissuade prospects from committing to Penn State.

Penn State HC James Franklin has insinuated that some of the power programs in the Big Ten have been hitting on the Nittany Lions' troubled past to score recruiting points. "I don't know what happens out there on the road completely," Dantonio said. "But it's not our M.O., and that's not how we do business." For his part, Meyer sounded legitimately surprised by the allegations. "We've got a great deal of respect for every school in our conference," he explained, "and we do just fine with recruiting. We don't worry about that stuff. I'm glad you told me that. If that's true, I'll address that."

Ole Miss freshman DE Charles Wiley was arrested on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge.

Wiley was arrested and taken to the Lafayette County Jail on Monday night. The exact circumstance that led to the 6-foot-3, 235-pounder's arrest are not yet known. Ole Miss HC Hugh Freeze said in a statement, "Charles is being withheld from all team activities while the process moves forward. We take incidents like this very seriously and will make decisions once the course of action is complete." Wiley was a four-star recruit for the 2016 cycle and stood as ESPN 300's No. 252 prospect in that class.

Ohio State HC Urban Meyer said that "[t]here’s no chance [senior RB] Bri’onte Dunn will come back."

Dunn was dismissed from the Buckeyes last week. At the time, Ohio State simply referred to it as being due to a "violation of team rules." A 911 call from Dunn's girlfriend in which she alleges that the 6-foot-1, 214-pound back choked her and hit her has since surfaced. The woman filed a civil protection order against Dunn following the incident.

Ohio State HC Urban Meyer anticipates that redshirt freshman RB Mike Weber will be the starting tailback in 2016.

At B1G media days, Meyer said that he "love[s] where [Weber's] at physically." He just needs to stay healthy over the next month-plus. Last season, Weber suffered a torn meniscus several weeks before the start of the season. That injury and subsequent surgery led the 5-foot-10, 215-pounder to take a freshman redshirt. With Bri'onte Dunn's dismissal earlier this month, Weber has a relatively clear road to carries in 2016 if he can maintain his health. Curtis Samuel and Antonio Williams also figure to see opportunities out of the backfield.

Miami received a verbal commitment from four-star 2017 DE D.J. Johnson.

ESPN's Craig Haubert called Johnson "an excellent pick-up for Miami out of California" and noted that the 6-foot-5, 225-pounder is a fiend in the pass-rush. The analyst wrote that "Johnson is a lengthy edge defender [who] has the ability to explode off the ball and cover a lot of ground once in motion." He ranks as ESPN 300's No. 30 overall prospect for the 2017 cycle. With his commitment in the bag, the Hurricanes now hold six ESPN 300 commitments. A top-10 recruiting class in HC Mark Richt's first year with the program is very much in play as things currently stand.

Pittsburgh HC Pat Narduzzi said that redshirt junior RB James Conner (knee/lymphoma) will be a full participant in August camp.

"We just have to monitor him a little bit, make sure we don't wear him out," Narduzzi said. "We have to be smart. You let him go out there for a two-a-day, but you don't have him out there every snap." Pitt will be monitoring him in a unique way, too -- he will wear a GPS device designed to track his movements and pace in practice, in order to help give Narduzzi and friends an idea of how he is progressing and when he might need a breather. Conner is on the mend from a traumatic 2015 season in which he tore his MCL in September and was subsequently diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma.

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer expects freshman OL Michael Jordan to start this season.

The Buckeyes lost two starting tackles to the NFL in Taylor Decker, who was good, and Chase Farris, who was not. Jordan was considered a four-star recruit and stands 6-foot-6 and 309-pounds. Ohio State's offense will continue to evolve, with J.T. Barrett clearly at the helm and the losses of workhorse Ezekiel Elliott, big receiver Michael Thomas and manufactured touch player Braxton Miller. The most impactful departure over the last few years might be former OC Tom Herman.

Baylor sophomore QB Jarrett Stidham received his release from scholarship.

Stidham can transfer to any school outside of the Big 12. It is worth noting David Ubben of Sports on Earth suggested Stidham could enroll at McLennan Community College in Waco, where he would be eligible to play immediately. Stidham would also be eligible if he elected to drop down to the FCS level, with the likely goal of working back up to an FBS program. As a true freshman, Stidham passed for 1,265 yards and a 12/2 TD/INT ratio.

Baylor redshirt senior RB Shock Linwood needs two rushing touchdowns to be the school's all-time leader in that category.

Baylor's football history is not extensive, but it is still surprising that the school's all-time rushing touchdown leader is Alfred Anderson with 35, ending his career back in 1983. Linwood is just one away after only three seasons, and that record could be broken in week one against Northwestern State. Robert Griffin III is third on the list, with 33. Baylor has been very effective in recent years by continuing to spread defenses out with four or five receiver sets, and allowing running backs to eat in 5 versus 5 matchups in the box.
Jul 26 - 8:28 AM

Florida junior WR Treon Harris will transfer.

Florida took to Twitter to confirm widespread reports of Harris' looming transfer. His time in the program was marred by mediocre play and off-field turbulence. On the field, the 5-foot-11, 190-pounder struggled to spark any sort of a potent passing attack (50.3% career completions). And off the field, he was hit with an ongoing indefinite suspension this winter for reasons unknown. Harris transitioned over to wideout in the offseason while under that mysterious suspension. It is unknown at this juncture which programs he might be considering for a transfer. With QB Will Grier electing to join West Virginia's program in the spring, HC Jim McElwain is essentially starting with a fresh slate at the position this coming season, with redshirt junior QB Luke Del Rio probably holding the inside track to win the starting gig.
