Scouts Inc.'s Kevin Weidl says Clemson WR Martavis Bryant "flashed big upside on tape."

Bryant is an athletic freak who, at 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds, ran unofficial forty times of 4.34 and 4.35 seconds at the combine (and posted a 39-inch vertical and a 10-yard split of 1.53 seconds). "He is a bit straight line and can have trouble dropping his weight and separating from underneath coverage. However, in Bryant’s defense, he was not a great fit within offensive coordinator Chad Morris' scheme at Clemson which relied heavily on quick hitting underneath throws," wrote Weidl. The analyst believes Bryant will be a nice value selection on Day 2. "Bryant has the talent to become a strong No. 2 with a few years of development," he wrote. Weidl sees some of the late Chris Henry in Bryant.

Florida State received a verbal commitment from four-star 2019 CB Akeem Dent.

"Dent really gets downhill in a hurry, flashing big-time closing speed and acceleration, but also does a nice job of playing under control," Scout.com noted in their breakdown of the 6-foot, 170-pound stalwart out of Wellington, Florida. The outlet additionally passes along that Dent has shown an ability to excel at both corner and safety during his high school career. He ranks as Scout's No. 9 overall prospect for the 2019 cycle and stands as their No. 1 corner in the class.

Ole Miss three-star 2019 CB Bobby Wolfe reopened his recruitment.

Wolfe (6'2/175) becomes the first player to decommit from Ole Miss in the wake of HC Hugh Freeze's resignation on Thursday. While no pledges in the 2018 class have backed off their commitments as of yet, those might start to filter out in the coming days. Three-star 2018 OL commit Blaine Scott told ESPN, "Right now I'm just laying low. I will make a decision in a few days." Realistically, it's going to be a very tough hill to climb for Ole Miss to remain legitimately relevant in recruiting for the foreseeable future.

Former San Francisco 49ers personnel executive Tom Gamble has joined the staff at Michigan.

Just what role Gamble will be playing on staff is unknown at this juncture. Gamble parted ways with the 49ers after John Lynch was hired as general manager in February. He previously worked with Wolverines HC Jim Harbaugh when Harbaugh was with San Francisco in 2011 and 2012.

Georgia Southern sophomore QB Seth Shuman will not play football this season while he focuses on baseball.

Shuman (6'1/195) was selected by the Orioles in the 39th round of the 2016 amateur draft. On the gridiron, he played in five games as a true freshman last season, rushing for 39 yards on eight carries while throwing for 357 yards with a 1/3 TD/INT ratio. He was in line to start for the coming season, but that burden will now fall to one of Alabama State transfer Ellis Richardson, redshirt freshman Shai Werts or JUCO transfer Kado Brown.

Ole Miss HC Hugh Freeze has resigned.

Yahoo Sports' Pat Forde indicated on Thursday evening that "explosive new information" had Freeze facing a potential firing. We know what that information is now -- USA Today's Dan Wolken is reporting that Freeze made a one-minute call to a number associated with an escort service on a university-issued phone on January 19, 2016. Per Wolken, this arose as information in talks between "the university’s legal counsel and the attorney for former Rebels football coach Houston Nutt." Nutt is suing the university for an alleged smear campaign in the wake of numerous NCAA violations being levied against the program, violations which they have tried to steer away from Freeze. Ole Miss AD Ross Bjork cited Freeze's personal misconduct (and not the NCAA violations) when speaking with ESPN regarding the resignation, saying that university officials discovered a pattern of phone calls. With the season just over a month away, OL coach Matt Luke has been named interim head coach.

Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports reports that "explosive new information has put Ole Miss [head] coach Hugh Freeze's job in immediate jeopardy."

Forde writes that "a decision should come soon." We would assume that this relates in some way to the mass of NCAA violations being levied against Freeze, but expect further information to surface in the coming days. On top of the NCAA's probe, former Rebs HC Houston Nutt is also suing the university for what he claims is a smear campaign against him to attempt to shift the blame in the ongoing investigation into various possible forms of shadiness at Ole Miss. Stay tuned.

AL.com's Matt Zenitz reports that Alabama sophomore RB B.J. Emmons will transfer.

This one comes out of the blue, as there had been no real indication leading up that Emmons was considering a move. It makes sense, though. Bo Scarbrough and Damien Harris are expected to receive the bulk of carries during the coming season, with Joshua Jacobs and five-star true freshman Najee Harris also in the conversation for carries. Emmons -- who underwent a pair of foot surgeries to repair a dreaded Lisfranc fracture which cut his 2016 season short -- ranked as Rivals' No. 33 overall prospect coming out of high school. Assuming he latches on with another FBS outfit in the next month, he would need to sit out the coming season to satisfy NCAA transfer regulations.

Florida received a verbal commitment from four-star 2018 TE Kyle Pitts.

Pitts (6'4/222) settled on Florida over fellow finalists Georgia and Virginia Tech. Said the Warminster, Pennsylvania, native, "When I went down there, it felt like I was meant to be there. I felt most comfortable down there with all those guys." Rivals ranks Pitts as the No. 202 overall prospect for the 2018 cycle. Outlet analyst Adam Friedman writes that he is "a very good receiver, can make tough catches, and is deceptively fast" and adds that "[d]efensive backs will have a hard time matching up with Pitts because he is so big and he can really muscle defenders out of the way."

Florida redshirt senior S Marcell Harris will miss the 2017 season after tearing his Achilles on Wednesday.

Harris was expected to take the next step for the Gators, following in the footsteps of Keanu Neal and Marcus Maye. Harris was participating in team run activities before injuring his right Achilles. The back half will continue to be reshuffled for the Gators, an area of the team that has been a strength for years.

Former Oregon redshirt senior WR Darren Carrington is drawing interest from multiple Pac-12 programs and recently visited Utah, according to John Canzano.

Carrington's off-field troubles were extensive during his time with the Ducks and we count three to four incidents that involved discipline. Still, rival coaches likely see a talented player who caught 112 career passes for 1,919 yards and 15 touchdowns. He graduated in the spring and could play one more season.

NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein compares Kansas junior edge rusher Dorance Armstrong Jr. to 2017 first-rounder Haason Reddick.

"Like Reddick, Armstrong is an athletic edge defender who can play with a hand down or up," Zierlein wrote. "However, Armstrong is bigger than Reddick and appears to be stronger at the point of attack as well. Reddick's value was bolstered thanks to his ability to rush the passer on the edge and play inside linebacker. Armstrong is a pure edge player who keeps tackles busy with juke steps, stab moves and shoulder dips around the edge." The 6-foot-4, 241-pound Armstrong posted 20 TFL and 10 sacks last season. "He has the closing speed to finish as a sack artist and also possesses a knack for finding the ball and discarding blockers to make the tackle against the run. Armstrong has exciting upside," Zierlein wrote.
