Pittsburgh QB Tom Savage "should be getting much more attention," believes ESPN's Louis Riddick.

Riddick thinks the circumstances surrounding Savage -- "background, play history, character, scheme, talent played with" -- have contributed to his lack of hype. "He makes some serious big-time throws," Riddick tweeted. "No QB in this draft class making the 18-22 yard opposite 'college' hash corner and comeback throws like Savage can. ... And doing it all within the structure of an NFL-style passing game that he started in just one season." The 6-foot-4, 228-pound quarterback with intriguing tools could be a late-round riser. Savage has an impressive blend of size and arm strength, but needs to improve his reaction to pressure and throwing accuracy.

NC State head coach Dave Doeren apologized to FSU for accusing the Seminoles of faking injuries during the schools' game last weekend.

"I left an emotional locker room and took those emotions with me to the press conference," Doeren tweeted. The head coach previously accused FSU of slowing the second half tempo by falling to the ground with fake injuries. Others have accused opponents of such acts, but few head coaches.

One source close to NFL decision makers told Sports Illustrated that FSU HC Jimbo Fisher's "glowing recommendations" of JaMarcus Russell could lead to more questions of similar recommendations for Jameis Winston.

"He told the entire NFL that JaMarcus Russell was a great kid," the source said. "He was a f------ turd then." At the time, Fisher was LSU's offensive coordinator. Evaluators ask college coaches and people around programs endless questions about prospects. In many cases, the answers sway their evaluations. In this case, Fisher's potential praise might not count for very much.

One Big 12 assistant coach told Sports Illustrated redshirt transfer QB Baker Mayfield is "probably" the best QB on Oklahoma's roster.

"It’s really incredible," the assistant saidof the path Mayfield has had to take since wanting to transfer from Texas Tech. "He’s pretty damn good." Mayfield started seven games for TTU and was finally allowed to receive scholarship help while attending Oklahoma, however, he is not eligible to play in games until next year. He will then have two seasons remaining of on-field action.

Former TCU DE Devonte Fields admitted it is "somewhat" hard to remain motivated while playing for Trinity Valley Community College this season.

"On Saturday, Fields hardly looked like a potential first-rounder, let alone a college star," the SI duo of Thayer Evans and Pete Thamel write. "He jogged on many plays, stood and watched passes downfield, and even got pancaked by an undersized left tackle. Fields spent most of halftime standing outside the locker room, briefly killing ants climbing on his cleats." Fields was forced out of TCU after receiving a misdemeanor charge of assault causing bodily injury to a family member. With the NFL focusing on domestic abuse charges, one scout asked "who is going to take him?" in regards to Fields possibly making it in the NFL.

Michigan AD Dave Brandon released a statement late Monday night stating sophomore QB Shane Morris suffered a mild concussion and a high ankle sprain against Minnesota, and the situation was not handled appropriately.

"Unfortunately, this confusion created a circumstance that was not in the best interest of one of our student-athletes," Brandon said in the statement. "I sincerely apologize for the mistakes that were made. We have to learn from this situation, and moving forward, we will make important changes so we can fully live up to our shared goal of putting student-athlete safety first." Head coach Brady Hoke was adamant that he did not see Morris wobble when attempting to walk to the sideline, which was clearly visible on TV, and the reinserted him into the game after Devin Gardner was forced out for one play for losing his helmet. Brandon says the team will now have a medical professional with a bird's eye view to help recognize possible injuries and the school will attempt to reinforce their sideline communication.

An NFL scout told CBS Sports' Dane Brugler that his team is evaluating Iowa senior T Brandon Scherff as a guard only.

The scout said his team made this decision not because it's necessarily content at offensive tackle, but because "he's best" at guard. Scherff ranks No. 2 on NFLDraftScout.com's list of senior OTs behind Texas A&M's Cedric Ogbuehi. The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Scherff compares favorably to last year's No. 2 offensive tackle, Jake Matthews, according to CBS Sports' Rob Rang.

Utah State HC Matt Wells was surprised by the "report" BYU DL Remington Peck made regarding a possible medical redshirt for senior QB Chuckie Keeton.

"BYU said that?!," Wells said when asked about the statement. "We’ll get him to practice today and we’ll see what is going on," the head coach said of Keeton. The quarterback has not played in a game and a half, and has not looked the same this season after tearing his ACL last year. It is worth noting that Wells did not outright deny the report, only stating Keeton will be evaluated after practice.

TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline is hearing from scouts that Stanford junior CB Alex Carter will enter the 2015 NFL Draft and become a top-100 pick.

"Carter’s star continues to shine as the junior has displayed great improvement this season," Pauline wrote. "During Stanford’s critical conference victory over Washington, he shut down Husky receivers and came up big during the closing moments of the game, breaking up several passes to go along with five tackles. Carter possesses excellent size and plays strong, physical football. Numerous west coast sources tell me Carter will enter the draft and he’s expected to slot into the top 100 selections." The 6-foot, 202-pound junior was named to the preseason Nagurski Award and Bednarik Award watch lists.

LSU freshman Brandon Harris will start at QB for the Tigers against Auburn.

In his first extended playing time, Harris completed 11 of 14 attempts for 178 yards and three touchdowns against New Mexico State. Anthony Jennings had been seeing starters snaps for LSU. Auburn is obviously a difficult debut game from Harris, but he has flashed plenty of ability.

BYU DL Remington Peck told BYU Sports Nation that Utah State senior QB Chuckie Keeton will be taking a medical redshirt this season.

Utah State has not made a statement on the matter. Obviously the source is not exactly certified, but many of the players that go to schools in Utah have close relationships. Keeton missed last season after tearing his ACL and did not look the same in 2014 while seeing action in three games. Again, the report has not been confirmed, but the decision would not surprise us.

Texas A&M true freshman edge rusher Myles Garrett earned the top grade of +6.7 from PFF for Saturday's game against Arkansas.

Usually these grades are a mixture of pass rush, run defense, coverage and penalties, but Garrett posted his entire +6.7 grade in the pass rushing department. The Aggies defense was terrible last year, but they have allowed just 28 points to both SEC opponents this season. Garrett and Texas A&M face Miss State following an off week.
