The MMQB's Peter King cites a source close to Rick Smith who say the Texans GM prefers Buffalo edge player Khalil Mack over Jadeveon Clowney.

King adds Auburn tackle Greg Robinson is also a possibility at No. 1. Smith could view Mack as a more diverse player in Romeo Crennel's odd front, which would allow for more versatility on defense. "I still think the Texans would go with a more sure thing with the first overall pick than a quarterback," King notes.

One NFL scout texted Yahoo Sports' Dan Wetzel that FSU redshirt sophomore QB Jameis Winston "keeps filling up the 'recurring stupidity' column."

Winston will face similar attention to what we saw surround Johnny Manziel last year. Their "off-field issues," which will continue to be a buzz word, are different, but that does not mean you will not see them mentioned or compared. there could be an argument to be made that plenty of over-correction is occurring in Jameis' case, however, some teams really will factor in these actions more than others.

ESPN's Mel Kiper has dropped FSU redshirt sophomore QB Jameis Winston to No. 25 overall on his big board.

Winston started the year as the top player on Kiper's big board. "At a time when NFL teams are going to be more sensitive than they ever have been about the off-field actions of their players -- and rightfully so -- Winston has reached a point with these issues where my sense is that a number of teams would have pulled him off the board if the draft were held tomorrow," Kiper writes. "It's that simple." The evaluator does believe Winston has time to "prove doubters wrong," however.

Former Ole Miss HC and USC interim coach Ed Orgeron turned down the Nicholls State job.

Nicholls State athletic director Rob Bernardi confirmed to that he talked to Orgeron about taking over after Charlie Stubbs resigned as coach on the heels of an 0-3 start. Orgeron declined, citing a "commitment he made to his wife and family for this season," according to Orgeron's home in Mandeville, La., is very close to the Nicholls State campus. You'll hear his name connected to head coaching jobs this winter; there aren't many better recruiters in the business.
Sep 17 - 9:12 PM's Daniel Jeremiah, Bucky Brooks and Charles Davis write that they are "hearing a lot of Larry Fitzgerald comparisons" for West Virginia senior WR Kevin White.

"His build at 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds is similar to Fitzgerald's," wrote the trio. "An NFL personnel director said he's not willing to go as far as a Fitzgerald comparison for White, but he didn't knock down the comparison completely, saying he sees the reason for it." White ranks second in the FBS with 460 receiving yards and is one of only three players with 30-plus catches. "White is establishing himself as one of the top wide receivers in the country, and we think he's an absolute beast,"'s draft team added. "He's playing with a lot of confidence right now, and he should be -- he's a big-body guy who can run and has excellent hands."

An AFC personnel executive compared Florida State senior WR Rashad Greene to Antonio Brown.

"I know Rashad Greene isn't the biggest guy, but he's an outstanding player," said the executive. "He reminds me a lot of Antonio Brown. He is so quick and has very strong hands." With scouts already calling Kelvin Benjamin a draft steal, Greene will not fly under the draft radar. "While Benjamin received most of the attention last year for the Seminoles, Green actually had more receptions (76) and yards (1,128), and while most people remember Benjamin for his winning catch in the BCS title game, it was Greene who led FSU with nine receptions for 147 yards in that contest," noted's Daniel Jeremiah, Bucky Brooks and Charles Davis. "He is considered the top senior receiver in the country and a case could be made for him being the best overall."

Morgantown police are serving a warrant on Wednesday charging suspended WVU sophomore CB Daryl Worley with battery, according to Metro News' Hoppy Kercheval.

Kercheval explains that Worley is accused of "grabbing a female around the neck and pushing her down" during an incident at Lux bar. The victim was not seriously hurt. Worley was indefinitely suspended from the team earlier this week. West Virginia hosts Oklahoma this week.

UCLA redshirt junior QB Brett Hundley arrived at practice on Wednesday in full pads and was not wearing a brace on his left arm.

Hundley suffered a "slight" hyper extension during last week's game against Texas and was forced out of the second half. In the following days, reports surfaced that Hundley would play in the school's next game against Arizona State, but that is not until after the bye week. It is a good sign that Hundley is already practicing in full pads.

Trinity Valley Community College head coach Brad Smiley has been told by ex-TCU and current TVCC edge rusher Devonte Fields that he intends to play at the Division I level again.

"Everything he has said to me and everything his family has said to me is the plan is for him to get his (Associate's Degree) and to play Division I again," Smiley told Mac Engel. "He is excited about going through that process and playing Division I again. He has not said anything about coming out to play in the NFL." Fields was a tremendous player as a true freshman, but injuries and off-field issues have since stunted his development. He is eligible for the 2015, and a change of heart is not out of the question.

FSU redshirt sophomore QB Jameis Winston has been suspended for the first half of Saturday's game against Clemson.

This is on the heels of Winston shouting expletives in the school's Student Union, which an FSU statement called "offensive and vulgar." After his previous off-field incidents, some much more minor than others, Winston admitted he needed to improve his self-awareness. Redshirt sophomore Sean Maguirewas named the No. 2 quarterback during summer work. Redshirt freshman John Franklin III could see some snaps as well, but he has been practicing with wide receivers.

Arizona State senior QB Taylor Kelly has been ruled out against UCLA with a foot injury.

Senior Mike Bercovici will start in his place. Kelly was injured against Colorado, and reports immediately surfaced stating he would likely miss this game. UCLA faced quarterback injuries of their own in their last contest, but Brett Hundley is expected to play in this game.

Oklahoma junior OLB Eric Striker is one of the top defenders in the nation, according to Smart Football's Chris Brown.

"I don't know his pro grade but he's incredibly disruptive," Brown tweeted, adding Oklahoma's change from a 4-3 to a 3-4/3-3-5 prior to 2013 did not receive enough acclaim. Oklahoma has stumbled down the stretch multiple times under Bob Stoops, but last year's defensive change could alter their fate this season.
