Former USC QB Max Wittek is in the process of applying to Hawaii for the 2014 school year and says there is a "good possibility" he will walk-on the football team.

Wittek pointed out nothing is official yet and he still has to have conversations with his family along with the acceptance of his application, but everything is headed in the right direction. The Star Advertiser notes Wittek would need to sit out the 2014 season since he did not graduate from USC last spring.

Ohio State sophomore WR Noah Brown will miss the 2015 season with a broken leg.

Brown will have surgery on Thursday to correct the injury suffered near the end of practice on Wednesday. The receiver lost around 25 lbs during the offseason, and coaches and teammates had praised his development, with corner Eli Apple calling brown the most improved receiver on the team. OSU will already be without three receivers in the season opener due to suspension and lost Devin Smith to the NFL. Expect Michael Thomas and Braxton Miller to play huge roles this season.

TCU redshirt senior WR Josh Doctson is expected to play versus Minnesota in the season opener despite being limited in preseason camp with an undisclosed injury.

Doctson is TCU's top receiving option, and his skills match up well with Trevone Boykin's strengths. Doctson broke his hand during spring camp and has missed time with another injury, so his offseason has been spotty. He might be the top contested catch receiver in the country in terms of acrobatic plays. Doctson can threaten defenses with three routes: slant, vertical and comeback.

UCLA named freshman Josh Rosen the school's starting QB.

Those close to the program believed this would be the outcome all along. Rosen was widely considered a 5-star recruit by services and even the top high school player at his position. UCLA lost longtime starter Brett Hundley to the NFL and will move forward with another likely three year starter. That is, if Rosen plays up to expectations. The freshman was in a competition with Jerry Neuheisel.

ECU redshirt sophomore Kurt Benkert will miss the 2015 season due to a knee injury.

Benkert started feeling something in his knee after practice on Tuesday. He was reevaluated on Wednesday and it was determined that the knee injury was severe enough that the 6-foot-3, 225-pound redshirt sophomore would have to miss the 2015 season. No details have been given as to the extent of the injury or how, exactly, it occurred. The setback comes a week after Benkert was named the team's starting quarterback. Either junior college transfer Blake Kemp or junior Cody Keith will now assume the role for the team's September 5 opener against Towson.

Duke starting junior CB Bryon Fields will miss the season with a torn ACL.

Fields started 13 games last season as a sophomore. Fields has missed time during camp, so some players lower on the depth chart have already received reps. He will likely take a redshirt season. Many will be watching safety Jeremy Cash in that secondary.

NFL Media's Lance Zierlein recently spoke with one NFL "personnel man" who questioned Clemson junior WR Mike Williams' downfield speed.

As Zierlein writes, Williams caught 26 percent of his passes 25-plus yards downfield last season despite those concerns. Williams really shines on the outside with slants, vertical routes and then working comebacks off of that downfield pressure. We would question Williams' after catch ability before questioning his vertical speed, if the goal was to find flaws in Williams' game.

Auburn views JUCO transfer Jovon Robinson as the school's best every down, between the tackles RB, according to ESPN's Travis Haney.

Haney starts by saying those who cover the team believe Robinson was in "the dog house" during camp, but the staff will rely on him to carry the load, like Tre Mason and Cameron Artis-Payne. Expect Roc Thomas to see snaps on the edge in the hopes of creating explosive plays, likely off motion or sweeps. Head coach Gus Malzahn has really created a plug and play system, but it helps to have great talent.

Oregon redshirt sophomore WR Devon Allen is on track to return in 2015.

Allen tore his ACL in the Rose Bowl and had surgery on January 16 to fix that ligament and clean up his meniscus and MCL. Allen has not participated in contact drills, but his progress has been "impressive," according to beat writer Chantel Jennings. By season's end, Allen was considered one of Oregon's top receivers.

UCLA junior LB Myles Jack wants to return kicks this season.

Jack has one kickoff return during his career for six yards. However, we all know Jack has seen plenty of time at running back, recording 380 yards on 5.8 yards per carry and 10 touchdowns, Jack's future is at linebacker in the NFL, like Shaq Thompson's was, but colleges (especially Pac-12 schools) seem to be open to two-way players. It might help in recruiting, too.

South Carolina HC Steve Spurrier named redshirt sophomore Connor Mitch the school's starting QB.

Mitch was competing with junior Perry Orth and freshman Michael Scarnecchia. Many loved Connor Shaw during his time as South Carolina's starting quarterback, but Steve Spurrier seems to be heading towards a more structured offense and a quarterback who wants to stay in the pocket. The Gamecocks do have one of the top receivers in the country in Pharoh Cooper. South Carolina faces UNC in the season opener on Sept. 3.

Rutgers is currently investigating HC Kyle Flood for a possible academic violation.

According to a report at nj.com, Rutgers is looking into the allegation that Flood contacted an instructor from a personal email address regarding the status of junior safety Nadir Barnwell. Barnwell could reportedly be facing academic ineligibility this coming season. Flood responded to the allegations before Tuesday's practice, saying, "Now, any correspondence that I had with a professor in regard to a student-athlete would really be of this nature: One, to be in support of whatever decision that faculty member made, and two, to inquire as to whether or not there would be an opportunity to earn a better grade." The investigation is still ongoing.
