South Carolina senior WR Damiere Byrd reportedly clocked a 4.30 40-yard dash.

"We ran Monday at 7 a.m., and he went 4.30," Gamecocks quarterback Dylan Thompson said Friday. "And it's accurate. Bruce (Ellington) ran 4.44 at our place, and ran 4.45 at the combine, so it's not just some number we're throwing out." We, for one, believe him. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound Byrd once ran a 4.26 forty. We're happy to see his wheels have returned intact after the former track star underwent knee surgery that knocked him out of spring practice.

Nebraska junior WR DeMornay Pierson-El (knee, foot) has been cleared to play in the season-opener against Fresno State.

Pierson-El has had himself a star-crossed injury year, breaking a bone in his left foot during last August's camp and subsequently tearing his ACL on Halloween. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound speedster is now ready to embark upon a (hopefully) healthy 2016 season. Said HC Mike Riley, "When he ran a fly sweep and when he caught a bubble screen for a nice gainer [in scrimmage], and when he caught a touchdown pass, I didn't even talk to him afterwards, but that night when I was watching, I said, 'This guy's going to want to play.' And he does. And he's ready, totally cleared."

The Palm Beach Post's Matt Porter reports that barring new information in a luxury rental car scandal, Miami senior WR Stacy Coley will not be suspended.

Defenders Al-Quadin Muhammad and Jermaine Grace have already been dismissed due to their alleged improper use of a luxury rental car service. Coley was investigated in the matter, too, but it looks as though he has avoided a similar fate. Last season, the 6-foot-1, 185-pounder hauled in 47 passes for 689 yards and a quartet of touchdowns.

USC sophomore LB Osa Masina is being investigated for two separate incidents in Utah and California.

According to police documents obtained by ESPN, authorities in Utah are investigating Masina in relation to a sexual assault case. No charges have been filed there as of yet. As for California's interest in the 6-foot-4, 230-pounder, details are scarce, but Cottonwood Heights Police Department Sgt. Dan Bartlett did let on that Masina was issued a search warrant in relation to an incident on July 30. He has been suspended for this Saturday's season-opener against Alabama. Further disciplinary measures could be coming down the pike, too, but for now, just the one-game suspension. "Really, as a coach, you're taken out of it," said HC Clay Helton. "This is a university and a policy and I'm confident in the guidance of the university here, so they'll let me know."

Baylor suspended sophomore WR Ishmael Zamora for the first three games fo the 2016 season after a video surfaced of him abusing his dog.

The story is one that can only happen in today's world, as Zamora's teammate shared the clip on snapchat, and a former Baylor student went to the authorities. Zamora apologized, but Baylor believed a three game suspension was warranted. He was listed as a starting outside receiver this spring. The first part of Baylor's schedule is extremely soft, and the three games include Northwestern State, SMU and Rice.

Alabama redshirt senior G Alphonse Taylor was found not guilty of driving under the influence.

In a statement released to AL.com, Taylor's attorney, Jason Neff said, "We are very happy with this ruling and hope that he will now have the opportunity to move forward with his football career." The 6-foot-5, 340-pounder was initially arrested and charged with a DUI in mid-July after he called police to say that he had hit a car in a parking lot. When he was administered a pair of breathalyzer tests, he blew 0.00 on both. Alabama suspended him indefinitely following his arrest and has yet to determine if he will be suspended for game-action, but a reinstatement could be coming soon now that his legal troubles are behind him.

Boise State redshirt sophomore S Dylan Sumner-Gardner has been suspended for the first four games of the 2016 season.

Per Boise State's release, Sumner-Gardner is being hit with the hefty suspension "as a result of failing to meet NCAA football academic eligibility requirements." His first few seasons with the Broncos have been a bit rocky. After taking a redshirt in 2014, the 6-foot-1, 204-pounder suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 4 a year ago. One month later, he was arrested and hit with a misdemeanor drug charge. And now, the books are catching up with him. Said HC Bryan Harsin, "You've got to take care of business." Cameron Hartsfield will start in Sumner-Gardner's place while he is out on suspension.

Wisconsin redshirt sophomore LB T.J. Edwards (foot) will not play in Saturday's tilt against LSU.

Edwards fractured his foot over the summer. Near the end of July, HC Paul Chryst said that he had been ruled out indefinitely. Alas, the 6-foot-1, 238-pounder has been unable to recover sufficiently over the past month. He has not practiced during August camp. Tough beat for the Badgers, as Edwards led their strong defensive unit with 84 tackles posted for the past campaign. Chris Orr and Jack Cichy will fill in at middle linebacker and will surely appreciate these opportunities when Leonard Fournette is trucking toward them in the open field come Saturday.

LSU junior RB Leonard Fournette (ankle) said that he has regained full health after suffering a minor ankle sprain in mid-August.

"I'm good. It was nothing too serious. It happens in football," Fournette said. HC Les Miles indicated that his 6-foot-1, 230-pound bellcow back has "practiced extremely well" after being shut down for a short time earlier this month in order to allow him to rest his balky ankle. Miles doesn't want to wear out Fournette during the season and said, "We're not going to keep him on the field when he's tired, no matter what." Fournette received 300 carries a season ago. He will begin his 2016 Heisman campaign with a Lambeau Field showdown against Wisconsin on Saturday.

USC head coach Clay Helton named sophomore Chuma Edoga the starting LT for Saturday's game against Alabama.

The Crimson Tide's arsenal of pass rushers will be a very difficult test for the sophomore tackle, who started on the right side against Utah and Wisconsin. Longtime starter Chad Wheeler is dealing with plantar fasciitis and is not expected to see the field for many snaps. The Trojans offense has a new look at many positions, especially at quarterback with Max Browne.

Washington HC Chris Petersen said that there is "a chance" that junior S Budda Baker could be utilized on offense in the season-opener.

To just what extent Petersen is considering using Baker on offense is unknown, but the Huskies have a digestible early schedule which could be used as something of a sandbox as Petersen tinkers around. Their first three games come against Rutgers, Idaho and Portland State. After that they open conference play with a considerably more difficult Arizona-Stanford-Oregon combo. The 5-foot-10, 176-pound Baker played exclusively on the defensive side last season, recording 49 tackles (1.5 for loss) and two interceptions in 11 games. Those numbers have room to rise if he can stay healthy. As a freshman in 2014, he registered 80 tackles.

Florida suspended freshmen WR's Tyrie Cleveland and Rick Wells for the season-opener against UMass.

Cleveland and Wells were charged with criminal mischief for property damage and shooting a missile inside an occupied dwelling after the pair were arrested for their use of a BB gun in a dormitory in July. These should be considered relatively minor losses against a bad UMass team. On the more positive side of the ledger, leading wideout Antonio Callaway will suit up for that opener. His indefinite suspension was finally laid to rest by HC Jim McElwain on Monday.
