Michigan State junior QB Connor Cook is "very capable" of breaking the Spartans' stretch of not having a top-40 drafted quarterback, according to CBS Sports' Dane Brugler.

MSU hasn't had a QB drafted in the top 40 during the Super Bowl era. "He is a good-sized athlete for the position with enough mobility to handle the high volume of rollouts and bootlegs in the Spartan's pro-style attack," Brugler wrote. "Cook has a quick set up and delivery with an easy release and top-shelf arm strength to make all the throws, displaying an arsenal of frozen ropes. He has functional downfield touch and controls his velocity well with fast eyes to see the field well on the move." Rotoworld projects the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder as a first-rounder in next spring's draft, though Cook needs to continue developing to make good on that projection. "Cook tends to ignore his footwork and lower half mechanics and with 58.7-percent completions, he has room to improve his ball placement, especially downfield," Brugler wrote. "He is too willing to throw off balance before his body and feet are set."

Following Friday's 31-24 loss to Buffalo, Ohio HC Frank Solich said that redshirt junior RB A.J. Ouellette suffered an "extensive" shoulder injury in the defeat.

Per Solich, Ouellette will likely miss the Bobcats' bowl game next month due to the shoulder injury. The Athens Messenger's Jason Arkley speculated during the game that the redshirt junior was potentially dealing with a strained or separated shoulder. Assuming this injury does, indeed, sideline him for bowl action, Ouellette finishes the current season having rushed for 985 yards and seven touchdowns.

Baylor freshman QB Charlie Brewer suffered a separated shoulder in the fourth quarter of Friday's 45-22 loss to TCU.

Brewer had been playing quite well prior to sustaining the injury, throwing for 301 yards, two touchdowns and an interception before exiting stage left. Zach Smith subsequently took over for him at quarterback. With the Bears finishing with a 1-11 record and long-ago eliminated from bowl contention, Brewer will have plenty of time to get right before spring practice. His exact timetable to return to team activities will be ironed out in the coming days and weeks.

TCU signed HC Gary Patterson to a contract extension through the 2024 season.

It's been a very, very nice Thanksgiving weekend for Patterson, who had just led TCU to a berth in the Big 12 Championship Game against Oklahoma next weekend courtesy of a 45-22 win over Baylor on Friday when the extension was announced. His previous contract had been set to expire following the 2022 season. Monetary terms attached to the new deal have not yet been disclosed.
Nov 24 - 4:25 PM

TCU redshirt senior QB Kenny Hill completed 26-of-36 passes for 325 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for an additional score in Friday's 45-22 win over Baylor.

Hill missed TCU's win over Texas Tech last weekend due to a concussion, but he looked no worse for the wear in Friday's victory. Indeed, this showing was one of his sharpest of the year as a passer. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound redshirt senior finishes the regular season having thrown for 2,604 yards with a 19/5 TD/INT ratio. He'll lead the Horned Frogs into a rematch with Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship Game next weekend. The Sooners came away with a 38-20 win in the initial match-up between the two teams a couple of weekends ago.
Nov 24 - 3:59 PM

Nebraska redshirt freshman WR J.D. Spielman (shoulder) is not warming up in advance of Friday's game against Iowa.

Spielman came down with shoulder discomfort during last weekend's loss to Penn State and has not practiced during the week. He was hopeful to play on Friday, but barring a late change, it looks like the 5-foot-9, 181-pounder will sit versus the Hawkeyes. Should that be the case, Spielman will finish his first active season with the Cornhuskers having caught 55 passes for 830 yards and two touchdowns.
Nov 24 - 3:39 PM

Houston senior WR Steven Dunbar caught eight passes for 142 yards and a touchdown in Friday's 24-14 win over Navy.

Fantastic work on Dunbar's part in this one. His touchdown was an absolutely huge 61-yard grab which snapped a 14-14 tie at the start of the fourth quarter. While the 6-foot-3, 210-pound senior has managed just three games of 100 yards or more receiving this season, two of those three performances have come this month. For the campaign as a whole, Dunbar owns a 67-882-3 receiving line.
Nov 24 - 3:34 PM

Miami redshirt junior QB Malik Rosier completed just 15-of-34 passes for 187 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in a stunning 24-14 loss at Pittsburgh.

The No. 2 Hurricanes shockingly limp into the ACC Championship Game in Charlotte next weekend against defending champ Clemson, as their undefeated season is over, and now they could be in real jeopardy of being on the outside of the playoff picture barring a major turnaround next Saturday. Rosier also saw injuries to his receiving corps, including Ahmmon Richards and Christopher Herndon, so things are suddenly going south in South Florida.
Nov 24 - 3:34 PM

Yahoo Sports' Pat Forde reports that Florida has taken themselves out of the running for Chip Kelly.

Florida and UCLA have both reportedly been hot-and-heavy on Kelly, but per Forde, the Gators did not come to an agreement with Kelly when they met with him in New Hampshire last Sunday. While they have kept in touch with him throughout the week, the program has now opted to look at other options. Forde passes along that UCF's Scott Frost is now their preferred candidate for head coach. With Florida out of the running, here, UCLA should now be considered the prohibitive failure to reel in Kelly. CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd reported earlier in the week that he is expected to make a decision by Sunday.
Nov 24 - 3:13 PM

Miami senior TE Chris Herndon has been ruled out for the remainder of Friday's game against Pitt due to a left knee injury.

If Miami is to come back from a 17-7 fourth-quarter deficit to the Panthers, they'll be doing it without one of their top pass-catching options. The exact severity of Herndon's knee injury is not yet known, but we'll pass along updates as information becomes available. The 6-foot-4, 245-pounder had entered action on Friday boasting a 37-436-4 receiving line on the year.
Nov 24 - 2:50 PM

Mississippi State redshirt junior QB Nick Fitzgerald underwent successful ankle surgery on Friday.

Fitzgerald suffered a gruesome ankle injury in the first quarter of the Egg Bowl on Thursday. Bulldogs HC Dan Mullen said that the redshirt junior is expected to make a full recovery. There's no concrete timetable for when he'll be able to take part in team activities next year -- that should clarify as he's further removed from Friday's surgery -- but there is a possibility that he could be ready for spring practice.
Nov 24 - 2:41 PM

Houston redshirt senior WR Linell Bonner was forced out by injury in the third quarter of Friday's game against Navy.

Bonner was leveled on a hard hit by Taylor Heflin late in the third quarter. He was subsequently taken to the locker room for evaluation. The exact nature of his injury is not currently known. Consider him questionable to return to the contest.
