Baylor redshirt sophomore RB Devin Chafin is creating preseason buzz, according to Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman.

We are really intrigued by Chafin since he offers a different kind of style than we have seen from Baylor since college success Terrance Ganaway. Chafin stands at 6'0/225 pounds and wins with strength and a physical nature, but Baylor's website also notes he runs a 4.43 forty, posted a 37" vertical and squatted 570 pounds. Bryce Petty has already "raved" about Chafin. Feldman also points to true freshman receiver Ishmael Zamora as a potential breakout Bear.

Ole Miss junior T Laremy Tunsil is being held out of Saturday's game against UT-Martin for "precautionary reasons."

The statement reads "We are cooperating fully with the NCAA and feel this is the best way to protect Laremy, our football program and the university." School officials did add "until the process can be completed," so it is worth questioning if Tunsil might be held out for future games if a conclusion is not reached. We doubt it. Tunsil is returning from a major leg injury.

Tennessee head coach Butch Jones insists junior WR Marquez North is fully healthy for Saturday's game against Bowling Green.

North has dealt with a leg injury, and many panicked after the initial news following a bogus report, but everything appears good to go. Bowling Green has the potential to put up big numbers, so Tennessee needs as many weapons as possible. North plays on the outside and made 30 catches for 320 yards in limited action last season.
Sep 5 - 9:20 AM

Baylor redshirt junior WR Corey Coleman caught five passes for 178 yards and a touchdown in the school's 56-21 win over SMU.

Coleman picked up where he left off at the end of last season despite the departure of quarterback Bryce Petty. In fact, Coleman caught a 42 yard bomb along the sideline on the first play from scrimmage. Because of his speed, Coleman immediately puts pressure on his opposition, but he is fluid enough to sustain that speed and create separation when breaking off routes. Baylor faces Lamar next.

Syracuse redshirt senior QB Terrel Hunt left Friday's game against Rhode Island with a right-leg injury.

Hunt was rolling to the left in the first quarter when his foot appeared to snag on the turf. He left the field without putting weight on the leg and used crutches to head to the locker room. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound redshirt senior missed six games in 2014 with a fractured fibula in that same right leg. True freshman QB Eric Dungey was inserted into Friday's game after Hunt's exit.

Sources have informed ESPN's Brett McMurphy that the left knee injury suffered by Arizona junior linebacker Scooby Wright is not thought to be a season-ending blow.

Wright injured his left knee in the first quarter of Thursday's contest with UTSA. After exiting the affair, he was seen icing his leg and walking with a cane. The results of a Thursday MRI have not been made public, but both Wright's father and HC Rich Rodriguez seemed hopeful that he avoided damage to his ACL and MCL. Rodriguez will update the status of his 6-foot-1, 246-pound star on Monday.

Utah State senior QB Chuckie Keeton completed 16 of 33 attempts for 110 yards and an interception in the school's 12-9 win over Southern Utah.

He only added seven rushing yards. Keeton amassed a 3.33 yards per attempt average, which is dreadful. The quarterback suffered a torn ACL in October of 2013 and has not looked the same since. Something was off in the early portions of last season, and Keeton was held out for the remainder of 2014.

Florida head coach Jim McElwain said the school has packages on offense for junior CB Vernon Hargreaves III.

McElwain would not elaborate but praised Hargreaves' work ethic during practice, saying the star corner is not a prima donna. We already knew VHIII was returning punts this season, but his touches could expand on offense. He is a thrill to watch on the field.

Arizona star junior LB Scooby Wright left Thursday's game against UTSA with a left knee injury.

The linebacker's father said the injury is "not major," and head coach Rich Rodriguez did not believe it involved Wright's ALC or MCL. Wright apparently hobbled off the field during the first quarter, and was later seen with ice on his left knee along with a cane. The linebacker led the FBS in tackles, tackles for loss and forced fumbles in 2014. The Wildcat defense played quite well without him, scoring twice.

Utah senior RB Deontae Booker rushed for 69 yards and one touchdown on 22 carries, adding 55 receiving yards, in the Utes' 24-17 win over Michigan.

Michigan kept Booker's rushing totals at bay, as he only averaged just over three yards per carry with a long run of 16 yards. Defensively, Michigan looked quite good. Booker is the focal point of Utah's offensive line, and expect him to see much higher totals when conference play rolls around.
Sep 4 - 8:48 AM

TCU senior QB Trevone Boykin completed 26 of 42 attempts for 246 yards, one touchdown and one interception, adding 92 rushing yards and a touchdown in the school's 23-17 win over Minnesota.

Boykin is not an efficient passer. He was not last season, especially against Minnesota, and that same player showed up Thursday night. Boykin did look more decisive and produced an excellent run resulting in a touchdown. However, Boykin has a long way to go if the goal is to be a composed, stable quarterback. Coaches will hate his mechanics at times, but others have compensated for those deficiencies with skill. TCU faces Stephen F. Austin next.

Baylor senior DE Shawn Oakman has been suspended for the season opener against SMU on Friday, according to Jason King.

King adds the length of the current suspension is for one game for a violation of team rules. The edge rusher did travel with Baylor to Dallas to face SMU. Oakman is one of the higher profile players in all of college football, but off-field issues did lead him to Baylor via Penn State. More information should be available after the game. Sophomores Brian Nance or K.J Smith will likely start in his place.
