Louisville junior QB Lamar Jackson asked former Atlanta Falcons star Mike Vick to dial on his praise of him.

Vick tweeted last fall that Jackson is "five times better than what I was at Virginia Tech." On Thursday at the ACC Kickoff, Jackson revealed his request of Vick to ESPN's David Hale. Jackson accounted for 51 total touchdowns last season en route to winning the Heisman.

ESPN's Mark Schlabach reports Chip Kelly met with UCLA officials on Tuesday and will choose between UCLA and Florida "in the coming days"

Schlabach adds Kelly will not consider any other openings. The two offers and locations are quite different from a recruiting standpoint. Thanks to his transition from college to the NFL, we know Kelly wants to enforce his identity on his program. Deciding which school will accept and buy into that is the most important piece to this choice.

In the latest release of the College Football Playoff rankings, Alabama, Miami, Clemson and Oklahoma (in order) landed as the top four teams.

Following a mostly static weekend for the big boys, the rankings -- especially at the top -- remained essentially the same. The only movement on that front was Miami and Clemson swapping the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. That's at least somewhat dubious to us given that the Hurricanes twice fell behind by 14 points against Virginia on Saturday, but it's a minor quibble. Beyond those first four squads, Wisconsin, Auburn, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State round out the top-10. The biggest tumbler in the rankings was Oklahoma State, which dropped six spots to land at No. 19 courtesy of their loss to Kansas State on Saturday.

The Houston Chronicle's Brent Zwerneman reports that Texas A&M will fire HC Kevin Sumlin following Saturday's game against LSU.

Per Zwerneman, Sumlin will be terminated whether or not the Aggies come through with a win against the Tigers over the holiday weekend. When the Chronicle broached the report during Sumlin's press conference on Tuesday, the coach responded, "I haven't heard that." According to Zwerneman's reportage, it has not yet been determined exactly when Sumlin will receive the axe once his squad has played LSU -- only that it will, indeed, happen. This is a developing story and we'll pass along updates as information becomes available. Barring a late reprieve, Sumlin is looking like he could join Florida's Jim McElwain and Tennessee's Butch Jones in the ranks of this season's SEC coaching casualties. During his six seasons in College Station, he has compiled a 51-25 record -- but just a 25-22 mark in conference. The Aggies have not won more than eight games since 2013, Sumlin's second season on the job.

Stanford redshirt junior RB Bryce Love (ankle) said that he plans on playing in Saturday's game against Notre Dame.

Love injured his ankle near the end of October. While he has managed to play in the last two contests, he suffered a recurrence of the issue against Cal over the weekend. The redshirt junior is a tough cookie and has shown the ability to play through the injury concern -- it forced him to miss Stanford's win over Oregon State earlier this fall, but that's it. This upcoming showdown with Notre Dame will be a stellar opportunity for Love to put his best Heisman foot forward if he can play. The Cardinal will be taking on the Irish in ABC's primetime slot come Saturday.

Northern Illinois redshirt junior QB Ryan Graham (elbow) has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Graham (6'1/214) sustained a slow-healing elbow injury in the second game of the season and has played just once -- against Ball State on Nov. 9 -- since his initial sidelining. Marcus Childers has been filling in for the redshirt junior as starter and will once again draw the assignment in the regular-season finale against Central Michigan. The Daily Chronicle's Josh Tolentino believes that a medical redshirt could be in play for Graham.

Kansas State HC Bill Snyder announced that redshirt junior QB Jesse Ertz (knee) is out for the season.

This isn't a surprising development, but it ends a strange six-week stretch in which Snyder repeatedly stated that Ertz would return this season. The coach has frequently labeled Ertz week-to-week since he suffered the injury in early-October. Snyder refuted a report in late-October that Ertz was out for the year. Regardless, KSU will continue to roll with Skylar Thompson or Alex Delton (undisclosed injury) behind center.

Auburn HC Gus Malzahn announced that redshirt junior RB Kamryn Pettway (scapula) will not play Saturday against Alabama.

Pettway is dealing with a fractured scapula and has not yet been cleared to return. This has been a great season for Auburn, and a lost season for Pettway. He was suspended in the opener and then played through plantar fasciitis during Auburn's loss to Clemson. Then, he suffered an ankle injury in Week 3 against Mercer that made him a week-to-week proposition over the month that followed. Finally, he fractured his scapula against Arkansas in late October. Pettway led the SEC in rushing yards per game last season but has ran for only 305 yards and six touchdowns on 76 carries this year.

Minnesota HC PJ Fleck announced that sophomore WR Tyler Johnson (broken hand) will be out 4-5 weeks but will be available for spring practices.

In all likelihood, this ends Johnson's season. The Gophers could still make a bowl game and hope he recovers quickly, but to do that, they'd have to upset Wisconsin this weekend. Johnson emerged as Minnesota's No. 1 receiver this season. In 10 games played, he posted a 35-677-7 line. If the Gophers can get better quarterback play next season, those numbers will swell.

Oregon senior RB Royce Freeman accepted an invitation to attend the Senior Bowl.

Freeman is subtly one of the most productive running backs in NCAA history, recently passing LaDanian Tomlinson on the all-time rushing list. The 2018 crop will do its best to match the loaded 2017 running back draft class.

Texas HC Tom Herman announced that freshman QB Sam Ehlinger will start Saturday against Texas Tech.

Ehlinger went 12-of-19 for 136 yards and two touchdowns with 68 yards rushing and a 23-yard catch against West Virginia last week. Sophomore Shane Buechele struggled in that one, going 4-of-7 for 28 yards. Herman indicated that Buechele will likely come off the bench to share snaps with Ehlinger against the Red Raiders. He'll play the hot hand from there.

South Alabama HC Joey Jones will resign after the season finale December 2 against New Mexico State.

"There comes a time in every program where there is a need for change. For this program that I love so much, that time is now," Jones said in a statement. He's the only coach the school has ever known, having been hired in 2008 before the team played a game, and he reached two bowl games with the program, both losses. Because there South Alabama won't go to a bowl game this year, there is no interim head coach at this time, and no timetable as to when the Jaguars will announce Jones's replacement.
