Tennessee has benched junior QB Quinten Dormady, and Dormady is "contemplating" his future with the program, according to Jesse Simonton of Volquest.

The Vols will turn to redshirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano this weekend against South Carolina. Dormady has thrown for 925 yards and a 6/6 TD/INT rate. Tennessee simply couldn't tolerate his propensity to give the ball away anymore. Dormady currently leads the SEC in turnovers. With Dormady "contemplating" his future, expect several days of transfer rumors. Just another week of Vol football under Butch Jones.

Boston College redshirt sophomore QB Anthony Brown completed 13-of-27 passes for 96 yards, one touchdown, and four interceptions in Saturday's 30-13 loss to Purdue.

Brown turned in the worst outing of his career after three very respectable performances to start the year. His 9/0 TD/INT ratio entering this game is now tainted with this four interceptions. His only touchdown came from a 15-yard toss to Tommy Sweeney in the first quarter. It was all downhill from there as the Eagles mustered only 229 yards of total offense. Brown will have a chance to right the ship next week against a surging Temple team coming off back-to-back victories.

Buffalo redshirt junior QB Tyree Jackson completed 14-of-28 passes for 263 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in Saturday's 42-13 win over Rutgers.

Jackson had a small handful of throws in this game which were NFL caliber "wow" displays. He also threw a pair of picks and only completed 50-percent of his passes against Rutgers' brutal defense, but we're not trying to nitpick here. Jackson is oh so very raw, but boy is he talented. The NFL is watching closely.

Notre Dame redshirt sophomore Ian Book completed 25-of-34 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 43 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries in a 56-27 rout of Wake Forest on Saturday.

With all due respect to Brandon Wimbush; a talented quarterback who has some of the best speed of any signal-caller in football, this quarterback competition is done. Book was outstanding against the Demon Deacons, showing significantly better accuracy and touch on his passes and also the ability to get through progressions. He obviously wasn’t too shabby on the ground either, but Book was looking to make plays with his arm and then was willing to tuck the football, rather than the opposite that frustrated head coach Brian Kelly. Book is all but assured of starting next Saturday against Stanford.
Sep 22 - 3:32 PM

SMU true freshman QB Will Brown started Saturday against Navy.

Brown got the nod over redshirt junior Ben Hicks, who has been benched for poor play. Brown showed well in relief of Hicks last week in the blowout loss to Michigan. Brown went 11-of-18 for 82 yards and two touchdowns. "I saw enough from Will in Ann Arbor to like what I saw, just in terms of his moxie and how he competed," HC Sonny Dykes said after practice on Tuesday. "I like that stuff. And he's got some athleticism as well and can throw it."

Nebraska HC Scott Frost said "there's a good chance" that freshman QB Adrian Martinez (knee) plays on Saturday against Michigan.

Martinez still doesn't look comfortable moving around, and he had a brace on his knee while on the field Saturday morning. Perhaps this is gamesmanship on Frost's part, or perhaps Martinez is further along than he appears to be.

Notre Dame redshirt sophomore QB Ian Book is warming up with the starters ahead of Saturday's game against Wake Forest.

Reports yesterday emphatically stated that Book would start today. It appears as though they were correct. Wake Forest's pass defense isn't great, so Book could be in line for a nice afternoon.
Sep 22 - 11:53 AM

Georgia sophomore RB D'Andre Swift (groin) is with the team for Saturday's game against Missouri.

Swift was limited to four carries for 12 yards while playing only the first quarter in the win over MTSU last Saturday. He was limited in practice earlier this week but appears to be a go for Saturday. Elijah Holyfield, James Cook and Brian Herrien continue to demand touches behind him.
Sep 22 - 11:09 AM

Syracuse senior QB Eric Dungey (eye/shoulder) is "good to go" for Saturday's game against Connecticut.

"Eye isn’t a problem," tweeted beat writer Stephen Bailey "Probably playing through a shoulder injury." Dungey left last Saturday's win over FSU with "blurred vision" after a piece of stray turf got stuck in his eye. Though Dungey will start, this game should get out of hand, so expect to see redshirt freshman Tommy DeVito plenty in the second half.

USC freshman QB JT Daniels passed for 241 yards and three scores on 17-of-26 passing in a 39-36 victory over Washington State on Friday.

After struggling against Texas, Daniels was much better against Washington State. There were a few throws that got away from him, but there were just as many that showed why he was considered one of the top prep quarterbacks in the country. He once again connected with former high school teammate Amon-Ra St. Brown for a score, and he also connected with Michael Pittman on a long score where Pittman did most of the work. Daniels is going to frustrate -- he should be a senior in high school, after all -- but there’s obviously big talent in the 6-foot-3, 210-pound signal-caller. The Trojans will take on Arizona next Saturday.

Penn State redshirt senior QB Trace McSorley threw for 160 yards on 12-of-19 passes with three touchdowns and a pick, and ran for 92 yards in a 63-24 victory over Illinois on Friday.

If there’s such thing as a close 63-24 game, this was it. The Illinois trailed 28-24 going into the fourth, but, things unraveled. Quickly. McSorley was fantastic with his legs -- continuously finding open holes on the read-option -- but his passing left a bit to be desired in this one. His first touchdown was to a wide-open Pat Freiermuth from five yards out, but his second showed off his impressive scrambling ability on a 16-yard strike to Juwan Johnson to give Penn State a 35-24 lead early in the fourth quarter. He added the third after an Illinois’ turnover that gave the Nittany Lions a 42-24 lead they wouldn’t lock back from. McSorley has struggled with accuracy to begin the year, but keep in mind there are a lot of new weapons on this offense. He’s going to have to be at his best next Saturday against Ohio State.
Sep 22 - 12:40 AM

Penn State junior RB Miles Sanders ran 22 times for 200 yards and three touchdowns in a 63-24 rout of Illinois on Friday.

What a sensational game for Sanders, who really carried Penn State to this win. The tailback also had a passing touchdown taken off the board because of an illegal formation. Sanders can clearly make tacklers miss, and once he’s in the open field, he can run by you, too. His 48-yard rushing touchdown to give the Nittany Lions a 35-24 lead proved that. This is one of the worst run defenses in the Big Ten -- if not college football -- but Sanders is going to make a lot of defenses look bad. A tremendous match-up against Ohio State comes next on September 29.
