Yahoo Sports' Pat Forde reports that former Cal HC Sonny Dykes is "a name to watch" for the open head-coaching position at SMU.

Dykes has the applicable ties to the state of Texas that would be palatable for SMU, as he worked at Texas Tech in the capacity of wide receivers coach from 2000-06. Of more recent import, he's served as an offensive analyst with TCU over the past year. Dykes was fired by Cal last January after four mostly ineffectual seasons as head coach.

Alabama HC Nick Saban said that he plans on continuing to play both sophomore QB Tua Tagovailoa and junior QB Jalen Hurts moving forward.

Hurts has already appeared in three games this season. More than four is the drop dead point for a redshirt under the new rule. It had been reported earlier this month that Hurts and Alabama had an agreement that he would redshirt for the current campaign barring an injury to Tagovailoa. Said Saban, "We needed both quarterbacks last year, and we’ll need them both again this year." Regardless of whether or not Hurts ends up passing the redshirt redline this season, he's on track to graduate in December, after which we'll almost certainly see a transfer. It's just a matter of whether he'll have one year of eligibility remaining with his new program or two.

Clemson redshirt senior LB Kendall Joseph (groin) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against Georgia Tech.

Joseph (6'0/230) sustained a groin injury during practice this week. It's significant enough that he is not traveling with the team for Saturday's showdown with the Yellow Jackets. The redshirt senior linebacker had started all three of Clemson's previous contests, recording 11 tackles, a sack and a pass breakup in that space. With Joseph at least temporarily down for the count, it could mean additional opportunity for J.D. Davis and Shaq Smith.

Temple senior RB Ryquell Armstead rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries in Thursday's 31-17 win over Tulsa.

Armstead (5'11/205) boosted Temple to a 21-7 lead when he notched a 22-yard touchdown run -- his first of the season -- with 3:19 remaining in the first half. After a lost season spent wondering in the statistical wilderness in 2017, Armstead has come out in impressive style this time around, topping 100 yards rushing in each of his last three games. He managed to top that mark only one time last autumn. Through four total contests, the senior back has rushed for 364 yards. He's already over halfway home to surpassing his rushing total from last season. Up next on the docket, Armstead and his Owl teammates will try for an upset of Boston College in Week 5.

Tulsa junior RB Corey Taylor rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries in Thursday's 31-17 loss to Temple.

Taylor (5'10/218) took on his biggest workload of the season on Thursday, due in part to the fact that Shamari Brooks was limited by an ankle injury throughout. He made the most of his opportunities, scoring from three and five yards out in the first and fourth quarters, respectively. The latter touchdown pulled Tulsa to within 28-17 on the scoreboard, but they would draw no closer before the end of the contest. Through four games, Taylor has now rushed for 259 yards and three touchdowns. The Golden Hurricane will be off on bye in Week 5 -- that will give Brooks a little extra time to rest up -- before they resume play against Houston on Thursday, Oct. 4.

ESPN's Steve Coughlin is hearing that Notre Dame might start redshirt sophomore QB Ian Book against Wake Forest on Saturday.

While speaking on his 'Stanford Steve & The Bear' podcast, Coughlin cited "a couple of sources" who had informed him that the Irish are weighing the option of starting Book over Brandon Wimbush this weekend. That wouldn't come as a huge surprise to us given Wimbush's career struggles as a passer. He's completing just 55.3% of his passes this season and has thrown one touchdown against four interceptions in three games this season. Irish HC Brian Kelly was asked twice on Thursday who would be starting versus the Demon Deacons, and Kelly would only offer that both Wimbush and Book would see time in the game. In his most notable career spot of action, Book completed 14-of-19 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns after relieving an ineffective Wimbush in bowl action against LSU this past winter.

Nebraska has scheduled a game against Bethune-Cookman on Oct. 27 to make up for their weathered-out opener against Akron.

Nebraska and Akron had their Week 1 matchup scuttled due to lightning, and while both athletic directors were hoping to potentially schedule a makeup affair for later in the campaign, the scheduling alignment apparently just didn't work out. Bethune-Cookman will receive a sweet $800,000 payday for accepting this late October date in Lincoln.

Rivals' Bryan Matthews reports that Auburn junior WR Nate Craig-Myers has left the team and will transfer.

Per Matthews, Craig-Myers met with Tigers HC Gus Malzahn on Thursday to tell him of his decision to move on from the program. The 6-foot-3, 208-pound junior has started each of Auburn's three games this season, but in that space, he has caught just two passes for 39 yards. After enrolling with much promise as a four-star recruit in the 2016 class, Craig-Myers exits stage left the owner of a career receiving line of 22-394-4. It's not yet known whether he'll be transferring as a graduate. We could see freshman Seth Williams see an uptick in work moving forward with Craig-Myers on the go.

Cal coach Justin Wilcox announced that redshirt sophomore LB Cameron Goode (lower-body) has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

The injury occurred in the season-opening win over North Carolina, a game Goode impacted in a big way with a 38-yard pick-six. He's missed the Bears' last two games. No details were provided about the nature of Goode’s injury or whether he'll need surgery. But HC Justin Wilcox said he expects Goode to be healthy by spring workouts. This is the second straight year that Goode's season has ended prematurely with an injury.

Western Kentucky redshirt junior RB Marquez Trigg will transfer.

A program spokesman confirmed Trigg has left the program. Trigg said in a Twitter post that he will graduate in December and transfer at that time, which will allow him to play immediately next season, his final year of eligibility. Trigg actually started the opener against Wisconsin but things derailed from there. Through three games, he had carried the ball only nine times for 12 yards (1.3 yards per carry).

Ohio State junior DE Nick Bosa (abdomen) underwent surgery on Thursday and is out "indefinitely," per the school.

This almost assuredly means that Bosa will miss more time than previously hoped. The All-American defensive end suffered the injury in last Saturday's 40-28 win over TCU. HC Urban Meyer described the situation like this on his Thursday radio show on 97.1 The Fan: "He had a core muscle injury. He had surgery. I just talked to his father maybe 20 minutes ago and we hope to get him back as soon as possible. We're not sure when that will be. Obviously the recovery and obviously one of the best players in the country, maybe football, and even a better person. Incredible family. So prayers, hug them up and let's go." Bosa had already collected six TFL, four sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery for a touchdown prior to his injury. He's widely considered a top-5 overall NFL prospect.

Troy redshirt junior RB Jamarius Henderson will remain on suspension through this weekend's game against Louisiana-Monroe.

No word on when he'll return, but we can tell you that this will be Henderson's third consecutive missed game for violating team rules. B.J. Smith has been functioning as the RB1 with Jabir Daughtry-Frye behind him.
