Michigan redshirt senior DL Maurice Hurst has not yet decided whether he will play in the team's Outback Bowl showdown with South Carolina on New Year's Day.

Hurst (6'2/280) said that he would discuss the bowl with his family before making a final decision. The redshirt senior has turned in a career-best statistical season this year, putting up 58 tackles (13.0 for loss), 5.5 sacks and a forced fumble. Looking past the Outback Bowl, Hurst has accepted an invitation to play in January's Senior Bowl, the premier postseason stage for draft evaluation. Walter Football's Charlie Campbell believes Hurst will be selected before the end of Day 2 (Rds. 2-3) in the spring. The analyst does not rule out the possibility that he could be drafted in the first round.

Football Scoop reports that there is growing "friction" within the Ohio State football program.

Football Scoop notes that much of the friction involves HC Urban Meyer and Athletic Director Gene Smith, and that there's a "a tension that hasn’t been present in previous years." Some of this assuredly has to do with the handling of the Zach Smith firing/the suspension of Meyer for the first three games of the season. This is a situation that could fester for the remainder of the season for the Buckeyes. Stay tuned.

USC freshman QB J.T. Daniel has reportedly passed the initial stage of the concussion protocol and is expected to play on Saturday against Arizona State.

This is obviously terrific news for the Trojans and Daniels; who exited Saturday's loss to Utah after taking a hit late in the third quarter. The Trojans will obviously be very careful with the talented freshman, but assuming there are no setbacks and Daniels continues to pass the protocol tests, he should be a go for Saturday against the Sun Devils.

Houston junior DT Ed Oliver (knee) is questionable for Friday's game against USF.

This is a huge game coming up for the Cougars -- both teams are undefeated in conference play and are in the same division -- and the loss of Oliver would obviously be massive. Reports say that the 6-foot-3, 293-pound defensive stalwart will be monitored throughout the week. Keep in mind that Oliver has already publicly declared for the NFL Draft. We'll be sure and update you throughout the week with updates on Oliver's status.

TCU redshirt sophomore QB Michael Collins will take over as the starter following Shawn Robinson's season-ending shoulder injury.

The Penn transfer went 7-of-17 for 142 yards, two touchdowns and an interception off the bench in Saturday's 52-27 loss to Oklahoma. TCU's passing offense has been awful this year -- No. 99 S&P+ -- and the hope is that the 6-foot-5, 214-pound signal-caller will help the Frogs improve their aerial efficiency. Collins had better start quickly, as the Frogs (3-4) likely need to beat both Kansas and Kansas State to qualify for a bowl game.

TCU sophomore QB Shawn Robinson is scheduled to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery.

Robinson suffered through some nagging injuries this year, most notably to his shoulder. To his credit, he tried to play through it, but Robinson ended up suffering what turned out to be a significant injury near the end of the loss against Iowa State. He required help to leave the field and trainers stabilized his left arm. It was a trying campaign for Robinson, as he threw for 1,334 yards with a 9/8 TD/INT ratio while struggling with turnovers and poor decision-making. The book hasn't been written on him yet, though. Robinson has a wealth of skill in need of polish.

Syracuse senior QB Eric Dungey remains listed as the starter on the depth chart ahead of Saturday's game against North Carolina State.

Lot to unpack here, but the most important takeaway is this: Dino Babers said this is more a reflection of how things have been (i.e. mimicking last week's depth chart) and that he'll keep his quarterback decision in-house (i.e. he's not telling us if he's making the change to Tommy DeVito in advance). Babers wants to force NC State to prepare for both Dungey and DeVito, and it's unclear whether he's already made a decision either way. Health is not an issue with Dungey's status for whatever it's worth. "He has been cleared by the medical people to go," Babers said, "and he's been out there performing."

USC HC Clay Helton announced Sunday that redshirt freshman QB Jack Sears will prepare as the starter for this week's game against Arizona State.

Sears, the third-stringer, is suddenly thrust into the spotlight with JT Daniels (head) and Matt Fink (ribs) injured. Fink has already been ruled out against ASU, so whether or not Sears gets his first career start will be determined by Daniels' progress this week off a concussion against Utah. "I'm a big fan of Jack. I always have been," said Helton. "If [Sears is] given the opportunities, I think he'll do a great job." If Daniels indeed can't go, redshirt sophomore walk-on Holden Thomas would back up Sears against ASU.

TCU senior WR KaVontae Turpin was arrested Sunday for alleged assault with bodily harm of a family member.

Details are sparse, and TCU head coach Gary Patterson has not yet commented, but we do know that Turpin has been released from jail after being charged with the Class A Misdemeanor. "TCU expects its students to behave in an ethical manner, abide by campus policies and adhere to state and federal law," the athletics department said in a statement. "The student also may face a charge of violating the University Code of Student Conduct, the results of which are independent and separate from any legal charges." Turpin has 410 receiving yards and three touchdowns this year.

USC redshirt freshman QB Matt Fink suffered three broken ribs in the Trojans' 41-28 loss at Utah on Saturday.

Fink has already been ruled out for this weekend's game against Arizona State. He came on in relief of injured starter JT Daniels (concussion) on Saturday and appeared to suffer the injury while scrambling midway through the fourth quarter. Fink went on to throw a touchdown pass with the injury. With Fink out, USC redshirt freshman QB Jack Sears would start against Arizona State if Daniels isn't cleared to play.

Indiana HC Tom Allen confirmed that freshman QB Mike Penix tore his ACL in Saturday's loss to Penn State.

"My heart breaks for him," Allen said. Penix was given extensive playing time off the bench in the Hoosiers' spirited effort against the Nittany Lions on Saturday. This is sad news, but it does have a silver lining: Penix, a true freshman, had appeared in only three games, so he automatically will qualify for a redshirt this season. This development locks Peyton Ramsey in as Indiana's undisputed signal-caller moving forward. The Hoosiers are hoping Penix can throw by spring practices and participate fully in summer camp next year.

Liberty junior WR Antonio Gandy-Golden was given a false positive on his initial mono diagnosis.

Gandy-Golden (6'4/220) missed October 13th's game against Troy due to illness that was originally believed to be mono after medical testing. After going through a second round of tests a couple days later, doctors learned the first test was a false positive. As time progressed, Gandy-Golden began to feel better, which led to him being cleared for Saturday's game against Idaho State. In that game, the stud receiver caught two long touchdowns on his way to a 10-142-2 receiving line. It is an odd story, but the good news is Gandy-Golden is back to dominating on the field.
