Tennessee AD Phillip Fulmer said that former junior WR Jauan Jennings could potentially rejoin the team.

Jennings (6'3/201) was dismissed from Tennessee in mid-November after he released an Instagram video ripping the coaching staff. Said Fulmer in a radio interview, "I think [HC Jeremy Pruitt's] put some parameters around it, and I guess everybody’s got to figure out what those are and if they’re really going to do it." Even before he was booted from the team, 2017 had been a trying year for Jennings, who sustained a season-ending wrist dislocation in a Week 1 win over Georgia Tech. During a healthy 2016 season, Jennings logged a 40-580-7 receiving line. Pruitt indicated on Wednesday that he would likely sit down with the wideout in the near future to discuss his possible return. Stay tuned.

Alabama HC Nick Saban said that the team's starting quarterback is "still to be determined."

It would have been quite the story if Saban had named a starter between Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts at SEC Media Days, of all places. This is a competition that has been breathlessly discussed throughout the offseason, with no real indicators as to where Saban and staff might be leaning. We wouldn't be surprised if the Tagovailoa/Hurts battle went down to the August wire, something we've from Saban in the past -- it was only two years ago that he declined to name his starting quarterback until just minutes before the season-opening kickoff against USC. We're not going to rule out the possibility that the team experiments with both quarterbacks in season, though we'd view that as a longshot. Obviously, we'll keep tabs on the situation as the competition develops toward its end game.

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline writes that after watching extensive game film, he believes that Michigan junior DE Rashan Gary is "the real deal"

"Gary fires off the snap with a great first step, plays with great pad level and balance while also showing the ability to flatten his angle then pursue from the backside with speed," Pauline writes, adding the intriguing nugget that the 6-foot-5, 290-pound Michigan standout looks like he still has room to grow in terms of his developmental ceiling. Gary topped Bruce Feldman's "Freaks" list earlier this month. The future NFL star-to-be is capable of running a 4.75-second 40-yard dash with a 126-inch broad jump. He'll be in play for the No. 1 overall selection next spring should he declare for the draft after the coming season.

Arkansas HC Chad Morris said that he does not see senior WR Brandon Martin with the team this year.

Martin (6'4/205) was not listed in the team's media guide released this week, with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's Tom Murphy reporting that academics are at the root of the wideout's current issue. Morris did not speak specifically to that, but did acknowledge that he "[doesn't] know if [Martin] will become part of our roster again." This past season was the wideout's first in the FBS after landing at Arkansas as a JUCO transfer. Injuries limited his production for the past campaign and he finished out having caught just nine passes for 119 yards. He also dealt with some injury concern this spring. We'll see if Martin can extricate himself from this hole, but his situation doesn't look particularly encouraging at this juncture.

Texas A&M HC Jimbo Fisher said that there is no timetable to name a starting quarterback.

"I can’t dictate that – it happens when it happens," Fisher said, adding that "If there are two guys who need to play, they’ll play, if there is one guy who needs to play, one guy will play." He heavily insinuated that even he did not truly know who held the edge in the competition between sophomore Kellen Mond and redshirt sophomore Nick Starkel, citing the fact that the pair of signal-callers only has had slight exposure to the team's new offense thus far. Starkel likely would have been the year-long starter in 2017 had a fractured ankle sustained in the opener not prevented him from playing for much of the campaign. We'll check back in with Fisher's crew in August to see how this signal-caller showdown is shaking out.

Oklahoma State HC Mike Gundy said that redshirt senior QB Taylor Cornelius is leading the team's competition to start.

"Certainly, going into August, he's our guy," Gundy said. Cornelius (6'6/232) has been sitting the bench for the Cowboys for some time while serving as backup to Mason Rudolph. He has played sparingly for obvious reasons, attempting just 24 total passes to date. Hawaii QB Dru Brown transferred over to Oklahoma State earlier this offseason and will be trying to wedge former walk-on Cornelius out of pole position in August camp. Part of the reason we love Justice Hill for a huge season -- beyond the fact that Justice Hill is a great player -- is the unsolidified situation at quarterback.

In the preseason Conference USA media poll, Florida Atlantic and North Texas were picked as winners of the East and West divisions, respectively.

The media's seeing the CUSA to shape up similarly to last season, when FAU and North Texas squared off for conference supremacy at the end of the campaign. Florida Atlantic won that won going away. The Owls dominated the top of this new preseason poll, drawing 22 first-place votes for the East, with only Marshall's four stray ballots preventing them from a clean media sweep on the predictive front. First-place votes in the West division, much more spread out, with North Texas drawing 18, followed by Louisiana Tech (four), UAB (three), and Southern Miss (1).

LSU HC Ed Orgeron said at SEC Media Days that hiring former OC Matt Canada was "a mistake."

"It's tough when you make a mistake, but it's even tougher not to admit you made a mistake and it's just not a good fit," Orgeron said, explaining that "circumstances were different" when he was hired for the full-time head-coaching job at the end of the 2016 season. Orgeron -- who prefers a more simplified, traditional offensive approach -- and Canada -- whose offenses are based on more complex schemes and shifts -- truly did seem like oil and water for much of last season, with the most notable example of their clash of concepts coming when Coach O tried to take on a more active offensive hand prior to LSU's loss to Troy. The Tigers hired Steve Ensminger to replace Canada at the end of the season, with Canada subsequently moving on to Maryland.

Tennessee sophomore DL Ryan Thaxton has been suspended indefinitely after being arrested for an alleged domestic assault.

Thaxton was also charged with false imprisonment. He's alleged to have pushed his girlfriend to his dorm room when she wouldn't follow him, and then blocking the door when she tried to leave. ""We are aware of the incident," a statement from the school read. "The student-athlete has been suspended from all team activities while law enforcement and the university investigates."

Dismissed Virginia Tech redshirt junior S/LB Mook Reynolds is facing a felony charge of selling and distributing marijuana or for the possession of marijuana with the intent to sell or distribute.

Reynolds (6'0/185) was dismissed from the Hokies this past Monday, with no details available as to the reason why. Looks like we have our reason, now. Earlier on that same day, the redshirt junior had been arrested on the above felony charge. He's set to appear in court on July 27. It's been a turbulent offseason even beyond this last nail in his Virginia Tech coffin, as the program had suspended him for the spring semester for unspecified reasons even before his exit was hastened by this week's arrest. In terms of the on-field deficit now faced, it's a notable one, as Reynolds had logged a total of 134 tackles (18.0 for loss) over the past two campaigns. The Hokies will address his depth chart vacancy -- along with that of the just-drafted Adonis Alexander -- in August camp. Va Tech HC Justin Fuente is going to have his work cut out for him as he looks to piece together a team from what is a somewhat gnawed-over roster between graduations and offseason departures.

Cal redshirt sophomore WR Demetris Robertson transferred to Georgia.

The Bulldogs landed Robertson -- a native of Savannah -- over fellow finalists Alabama, Texas and West Virginia. The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder initially announced his intent to transfer from the Golden Bears in late June. Coming out of high school, Rivals ranked him as the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2016 class. He logged a 50-767-7 receiving line as a true freshman and likely would have topped those numbers last season had he not been waylaid by a lower-body injury which cut the campaign short after just two games. Per Rivals, Robertson is "expected" to apply for a hardship waiver to give him a year of eligibility back, though it should be noted that it's unclear at this juncture whether this would mean immediate eligibility. Regardless, this is a boon of a landing for HC Kirby Smart and staff.

Michigan junior DE Rashan Gary ranks at the top of The Athletic's Bruce Feldman "freaks" list for the 2018 season.

No surprise here. Gary is not only one of the most dominant and versatile defenders in the class -- one who has gotten top-five consideration for the 2019 draft -- he's one of the very best athletes regardless of position. As Feldman notes his 6.79 second 3-cone drill time this summer would have been best of defensive lineman at the NFL Scouting Combine this spring. He also ran a 4.75 second 40-yard dash, and the 6-foot-5, 287-pound defensive end had a 10-foot, 4-inch broad jump. Ridiculous.
