Three days after the Super Bowl the Browns requested to schedule a private visit with Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield, according to the MMQB's Robert Klemko.

Depending on who you ask, the Browns either declined or were not given the opportunity to coach Mayfield at the Senior Bowl. Mayfield's name has been up traction with the team, however, with the link of Scot McCloughan, who the Browns are using as a consultant. We still firmly believe the Browns use the No. 1 overall pick on a quarterback rather than No. 4, but either way Mayfield is in play.

Oklahoma redshirt junior QB Kyler Murray will receive a draft grade from the College Advisory Committee.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy, are things starting to get interesting now. One NFL scout told Sports Illustrated's Kalyn Kahler that there's "a lot of smoke being thrown around" relating to Murray entering the draft, while another evaluator familiar with Oklahoma’s program relayed to Kahler that the Sooners tend to only request evaluations for players they believe will enter the draft. Murray's agent, Scott Boras, said flat-out prior to the OU star winning the Heisman that he would be fulfilling his contractual obligations with the Oakland A's, but has since couched his statements by degrees. MLB Network's Jon Morosi reported on Wednesday that there was a provision in his A's contract which would require him to forego a large portion (exact amount unknown) of his bonus should he opt in with the NFL. One possibility, here, would be that Murray could get drafted and still play minor league baseball in 2019, with the drafting club retaining his rights through the 2019 season.

AL.com's Matt Zenitz reports that former Maryland HC D.J. Durkin has been working in a "consultant-like capacity" for Alabama over the past week.

Durkin was canned by Maryland midseason following a tragic, irresponsible summer and reports of a toxic culture at the program. It's not that unusual to see Alabama reach out to somewhat unorthodox names to gain an edge -- Steve Sarkisian, Lane Kiffin and Butch Jones have all spent time in Tuscaloosa over the last three years -- but even so, Durkin pushes that approach to the edge. Zenitz is reporting that it is unclear at this juncture whether there's any possibility for a long-term role, here.

Transferring Auburn freshman RB Asa Martin is taking an official visit to Miami this weekend.

Martin (6'0/193) indicated that while multiple Power 5 outfits have been in touch with him, Miami has been pushing the hardest. Don't be surprised if this Hurricanes visit turns into an outright Hurricanes transfer -- the freshman back said that he'd like to come to a decision within the "next couple days," and it would appear that he has no other visits lined up at this juncture. Martin put pen to paper with Auburn as a four-star recruit in the 2018 class. In a minor bit of controversy, the Tigers mangled his freshman year, playing him in five games (he rushed for 57 yards) and preventing him from taking a redshirt for the campaign.

Appalachian State hired NC State OC Eliah Drinkwitz to serve as head coach.

Looks like App State found their Scott Satterfield replacement. Drinkwitz came to NC State three years ago after spending the previous two campaigns with Boise State. He has a sharp offensive mind and has helped develop two of the brand name quarterbacks currently in our lives in BSU's Brett Rypien and NC State's Ryan Finley. This season, Drinkwitz's offense with the Wolfpack averaged 35.6 points per game. This is a hire we very much like on the offensive side. A few strong staff hires on defense would be palatable.

Washington received a verbal commitment from four-star 2019 CB Trent McDuffie.

McDuffie picks the Huskies over schools like USC, Stanford and Oregon. He was considered a lean for Washington for some time, but it's now official. It's an important get for a secondary that is (likely) to lose several quality players, including starting corners Jordan Miller and Byron Murphy. The Huskies have plenty of talented recruits waiting in the wings, but McDuffie (5'11/186) is rated the eighth best corner in the class, so he could be an immediate contributor.

BuffZone.com reporter Brian Howell reports that Colorado will hire Georgia defensive analyst Tyson Summers as the new defensive coordinator.

If Summers' name sounds familiar, you might remember that he was the head coach at Georgia Southern until October of 2017. He was fired after the Eagles fell to 0-6 that year, and he recorded a 5-13 record in his two years at the school. Prior to getting that job, Summers was the defensive coordinator at Colorado State, so he should know the area well. He'll be working under Mel Tucker -- he himself a former defensive coordinator -- so it's likely that Tucker will be the defensive playcaller for the Buffs in 2019. He's the second Georgia analyst to come with Tucker, with Jay Johnson being named offensive coordinator earlier in December.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that Oklahoma redshirt junior QB Kyler Murray would have to forego a large portion of his bonus if he opts to play in the NFL.

It certainly makes sense that the Athletics would want to protect their investment in Murray. After all, he was given a bonus of nearly $5 million after being a first-round pick. What couldn't have been known is just how much Murray's stock would explode; winning the Heisman Trophy and leading Oklahoma to the playoffs. Murray sounds like he's open to playing both sports, but we'll have to see if he's an NFL player in 2019. It will be the most intriguing story to follower after the college football playoffs.

Ohio State redshirt junior DT Dre'Mont Jones announced that he will enter the 2019 NFL Draft.

Jones is going off to the NFL, but he's got one more game in an Ohio State uniform; as he announced he'll play in the Rose Bowl against Washington. The 6-foot-3, 286-pound defender has been highly productive with the Buckeyes, and finishes 2018 with 8.5 sacks, 13 tackles for loss, and an interception that he returned for a touchdown. This is a loaded defensive tackle class, but Jones still could be a first-round pick because of his inside pass-rushing ability, and he ranks ninth among defensive tackles in Mel Kiper's recently released draft board.

Syracuse announced an extension with HC Dino Babers.

The amount of years and the amount of cash is not known at this time, nor is the buyout. Syracuse does announce in their statement that it's a "long-term" extension, but that doesn't offer much information. Babers went 4-8 in his first two years at Syracuse after coming over from Bowling Green, but he took the program to a 9-3 season; with two of those losses coming to playoff teams Notre Dame and Clemson. He was a speculative coach at several of the bigger openings, and this is the payoff.

Oklahoma HC Lincoln Riley told reporters on Wednesday that it's "too early" to know if junior WR Marquise Brown can play against Alabama on December 29.

Brown has been "limited" in practice after leaving the Big-12 Championship Game win over Texas on December 1 with the foot injury. ""Still too early," Riley said of Brown's status. "Working through it. It's not a definite no, not a definite yes. We're hopeful, but he hasn't done much to this point." It'd be a big loss for the Sooners, as Brown has put up a line of 75/1,318/10 for the 12-1 Sooners. We should know more in the coming weeks.

Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel reports that Temple is in the process of finalizing a deal with Miami DC Manny Diaz to fill their open head-coaching position.

The Owls are looking to fill the vacancy left behind by former HC Geoff Collins, who earlier accepted the lead position at Georgia Tech. Texas A&M DC Mike Elko and Michigan DC Don Brown were two other candidates who had emerged in this coaching search, but it would appear that Temple sees Diaz as their man. His defense clocked in as the No. 15 scoring defense in the country for the 2018 season. Should this deal come through with the Owls, it would represent Diaz's first shot at a head-coaching job.
