ESPN's Todd Archer reports that the Dallas Cowboys will hire former Florida OC Doug Nussmeier to serve as tight ends coach, a change of course from earlier reports that had him heading to LSU.

It was reported by multiple outlets earlier this month that Nussmeier would be accepting a job at LSU as an offensive analyst. While the Cowboys have yet to announce the former Florida offensive coordinator's hiring as official, it would appear at this juncture that he's no longer bound for the bayou. We'll keep tabs on this one until Nussmeier's new home is locked in for good, be it in the collegiate ranks or at the pro level. He's currently on the job hunt after Florida HC Dan Mullen opted not to retain him after taking over in Gainesville at the end of the 2017 season.

AL.com's James Crepea passes along that Auburn redshirt junior QB Jarrett Stidham (shoulder) will take part in two late spring scrimmages "at most."

While Stidham could potentially play in Auburn's A-Day to wrap up spring practice, he's a long, long shot to participate in anything prior to Auburn's spring break (March 12-16). The quarterback is on the mend from what Tigers HC Gus Malzahn has termed "minor" shoulder surgery which the signal-caller underwent earlier this winter. So long as Stidham is sidelined, it'll mean extended looks for sophomore Malik Willis and incoming true freshman Joey Gatewood. Willis figures to see the majority of first-team snaps early this spring, but Stidham remains locked in as starter assuming a full recovery on the health front.

NFL Media's Lance Zierlein believes it will be difficult to find "a more competitive CB with better ball skills" than Tulane CB Parry Nickerson.

"Just an absolute dog on contested catches and plays with good technique and excellent ball skills," Zierlein tweeted about the potential draft weekend gem. Nickerson does not possess the height many in the NFL now covet, likely standing around 5-foot-10. Outside versus inside corner are quite different spots, but Zierlein seems certain Nickerson can make it in the NFL, possibly in the slot.

Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield will not attend the 2018 NFL Draft in Arlington, Texas.

Instead, Mayfield will be with his friends and family. The former Oklahoma quarterback will go from being undrafted to likely a first-round pick, and we'll be watching his process along the way.

Peter King of the MMQB has been told by multiple "NFLers" they expect the Giants to pass on a QB at No. 2 overall.

The goal would be to fill a much bigger need. And just like King, we do not believe it. Dave Gettleman is smart enough to know the goal is to not be in position to have the opportunity to select a quarterback one year from now. Or the next, or the next. Eli Manning is 37 years old. The Giants are not a few pieces away. A forward-thinking decision maker knows this will likely be his only opportunity to pick in the top two.

Alabama DB Minkah Fitzpatrick revealed he is most comfortable as a slot CB.

Fitzpatrick also stated he models his game after Tyrann Mathieu, so a hybrid safety/slot role. This fits in line where Fitzpatrick played at Alabama, as he only spent 13 snaps as an outside corner in 2017, per PFF. This makes Fitzpatrick's discussion quite different than Jalen Ramsey, who starred on the outside. With that said, Fitzpatrick would be on the field for over 60 percent as the snaps as just a slot corner and could be on the field for more if he stayed on the field in two safety sets. Not playing outside corner might limit Fitzpatrick's financial ceiling, but he knows where he wins.

FOX Sports' Bruce Feldman reports that former Miami DL coach Craig Kuligowski will join Alabama's staff.

Kuligowski is expected to become Nick Saban's new DL coach. Kuligowski played for Saban at Toledo. Since then, he's turned into one of the game's best DL coaches, getting rave reviews for his work with Missouri and Miami. He developed five first-round defensive linemen at Mizzou, and his Hurricane unit was incredibly active over the past two seasons.

Miami announced in a press release that DL coach Craig Kuligowski "is leaving the program to pursue other opportunities."

This is disappointing -- Kuligowski is considered one of the top DL coaches in the game -- but not shocking. Kuligowski recently interviewed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their DL coach opening. He didn't get that job, but perhaps he has his eye on a different position.

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline believes that Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield will be "significantly overdrafted."

Pauline offers the preface that he loves to watch Mayfield play; citing his improvisational skills, and he disagrees with those who cite off-the-field concerns and his cocky attitude. But despite this, he does believe he'll be overdraft. "When I watched him on film, I saw many of the same red flags I witnessed during Senior Bowl practice -- he’s a tough, heady signal caller but has mediocre arm talent," Pauline writes. "Time and time again, receivers who were open in the deep field purposely slowed down their routes awaiting for the ball to arrive. When Mayfield tried to put zip on passes, he was often high of the mark." While these may seem like strong criticisms, there's at least some validity to them, because otherwise he'd be the obvious first-overall selection. It just takes one team to fall in love with his skills, but there's at least a chance that Mayfield could fall down draft boards.

While listing the top candidates to break John Ross's 40-yard dash combine record, Daniel Jeremiah says it's possible that Penn State RB Saquon Barkley will run a time in the 4.3 range.

That obviously wouldn't really challenge Ross for his record (4.22), but it would still be an extremely impressive time considering his frame. "You might think it's crazy to mention Barkley with these other legitimate track stars," Jeremiah writes. "However, Barkley's play speed jumps off the tape and he's reportedly run in the 4.3s at Penn State, despite weighing 230-plus pounds." If Barkley does post a time in that range, it will just solidify the expectations that he'll be off the board in the first five picks.

Jim McElwain has told ESPN's Chris Low that he has joined the Michigan coaching staff.

"I'm excited to get back into it and am looking forward to going there and learning and helping Michigan get better," McElwain told Low. He replaces Dan Enos, who left the Wolverines to join the Alabama coaching staff. Bruce Feldman reported on Friday that McElwain could have offensive coordinator duties as part of his new role. He's been a head coach for both Colorado State and Florida, and he has a career win-loss record of 44-28.

Benjamin Allbright reports that the Bills are trying to trade up into the top ten of this year's draft, presumably to acquire a quarterback.

The Bills have both the 21st and 22nd pick in this year's draft, as they acquired Kansas City's first-round pick last spring in the Patrick Mahomes deal. What quarterback they'd be targeting remains to be seen, but there has been recent speculation tying them to UCLA's Josh Rosen. His arm strength should play fine in the cold wind of Buffalo, and many consider him the most "NFL ready" signal-caller in the class. Stay tuned; we often see trade movement around the combine, and that's just around the corner.
