Following the NFL Combine, The MMQB's Albert Breer believes USC QB Sam Darnold has "work to do now to hold the top spot."

Breer lists a few reasons why. One, Darnold elected to not throw at the combine, while others did. Second, reviews of Darnold's "board work in Indy have come back mixed." Fourth, Breer states Josh Allen and Baker Mayfield "shone" last week in Indianapolis. This could also set up Darnold to cement his evaluation with a very strong pro day workout, since it is the only exposure teams will have to Darnold's on-field work.

Oklahoma's offensive line was given the Joe Moore Award.

The award goes to the top offensive line in the country, and it's very hard to argue that another line deserves this. It helps Oklahoma put up 49.5 points per game and average 578 yards per contest. Two of the starters -- Dru Samia and Ben Powers -- are going to be featured in the Senior Bowl, and all five of their starters have a chance to play at the next level. We're excited to see how they handle the ridiculousness that is the Alabama defense.

Kent State junior WR Antwan Dixon was one of the winners of the inaugural Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year award.

The other winners: Dartmouth defensive lineman Seth Simmer and Carson-Newman running back Antonio Wimbush. The award goes to college football players from FBS, FCS and lower divisions who overcome injury, illness or other challenges to return to the field. Dixon missed the previous two years because of aplastic anemia; a rare blood disease in which bone marrow ceases to produce blood. He was able to play in every game this season, and finished with 52 receptions for 532 yards and two touchdowns.

San Diego State redshirt sophomore T Tyler Roemer declared for the 2019 NFL Draft.

Roemer played in only two games for the Aztecs in 2018, as he was suspended by the university and then removed from the roster altogether on November 26. The 6-foot-7, 315-pound tackle will have obvious questions to answer about the suspension, but he did flash next-level talent with San Diego State, and Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline stamped him with a fifth-round grade coming into the year. He could be a steal in the late rounds because of his size, but again, there's going to have to be a lot of homework done.

Multiple sources tell Kyle Rowland of the Toledo Blade that Ohio State is the favorite for Georgia freshman QB Justin Fields if he transfers.

An earlier report noted that Florida State and Oklahoma were potential transfer destinations, but based on what Rowland is hearing from multiple sources, it sounds like the Buckeyes would be the top option. It's also been reported that Fields has hired Tom Mars, the attorney who helped Shea Patterson gain immediate eligibility for Michigan. Assuming Dwayne Haskins enters the NFL Draft, Fields could be the immediate starter for the Buckeyes in 2019; although if he gains eligibility he'd certainly be the favorites at Florida State or an Oklahoma team without Kyler Murray. Stay tuned.

Former Ball State redshirt junior QB Riley Neal is transferring to Vanderbilt.

Neal (6'6/225) will be eligible immediately -- he is a graduate transfer -- and should be at least in the running for the starting spot in 2019 with Kyle Shurmur graduating. At Ball State, Neal had his struggles, but he does enter the university with 34 games of experience. As a junior in 2018, Neal completed just 57.9 percent of his passes while averaging only 5.7 yards per pass attempt and 1.8 total touchdowns per game. Perhaps elevated talent and a new system will lead to a better statistical season in 2019.

USA Today's Dan Wolken notes the foundation for Justin Fields' potential appeal for 2019 eligibility "could be" based around the racist remarks made by a Georgia student-athlete towards Fields.

Fields will have to build a case to win his appeal for 2019 eligibility if he ultimately decides to transfer, and basing it around the racist comments made by dismissed Georgia baseball player Adam Sasser would certainly be a strong case. In fact, Wolken believes it would be a strong enough case to win his appeal given how lenient the NCAA has been on waivers recently. We are still multiple steps away from all of this speculation -- Fields still hasn't told Georgia he is transferring -- but Fields could end up starting at Ohio State, Oklahoma, Florida State, or other universities as soon as 2019 if everything breaks his way.

Stanford senior RB Bryce Love will not play in the Sun Bowl.

Love (5'10/202) will instead focus on the NFL Draft, and it's without a doubt the correct decision for him. So much of Love's draft grade will be injury related and risking further damage in the bowl game would be a potential detriment to his draft stock. Love has shown a ton of explosion at times -- he averaged 8.1 YPC on 263 attempts in 2017 -- but that was stolen from him this year while playing on a bummed ankle. The Draft Network's Benjamin Solak notes that Love is being viewed as a Day 3 selection at the moment, but Love could beat that assessment if he can show NFL doctors that his ankle injuries aren't an issue moving forward.

Alabama HC Nick Saban told reporters that sophomore QB Tua Tagovailoa is "ahead of schedule" in his recovery from his ankle injury.

"He’s been able to take a lot of reps," Saban said. "He’s been able to throw the ball from the pocket. He can run." Saban also noted that he's not 100 percent in terms of change-of-direction runs, but that he's already going full speed on the treadmill. Tagovailoa still has another 12 days before he faces off against Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl, and at this point, it would be a major surprise if he wasn't behind center for that semifinal match.

FIU junior RB Shawndarrius Phillips will not play in the Bahamas Bowl following his arrest for domestic violence.

Phillips was arrested on December 12, which is nearly six months after the assault took place. A second investigation took place after the original charge on June 18 was disposed, and he was arrested for having an outstanding warrant on Wednesday. FIU has not commented on the incident yet, and there's no word on if this is a disciplinary suspension or Phillips' choice.

Michigan sophomore DT Aubrey Solomon announced his intention to transfer.

Solomon was a huge get for the Wolverines in 2017, and the 6-foot-3, 297-pound tackle showed flashes during his time with the Wolverines. He also battled injuries during his sophomore season, and appeared in just two games for Michigan in 2018. He'll get another year of eligibility because he didn't appear four-plus games, but he'll have to sit out the 2019 season if he transfers to a program at the FBS level. There should be lots -- and we do mean lots -- of interest in his services.

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports that new USC OC Kliff Kingsbury is still a potential candidate for an NFL coaching job.

Kingsbury was hired to serve as offensive coordinator on December 5, but it sounds like it could -- emphasis on could -- be a short stay. He was fired by Texas Tech after going 35-40 in his time with the Red Raiders, but he's viewed as one of the more innovative offensive minds in the sport, and the NFL is always looking for the next big thing when it comes to scheme(s). There are even reports from Glazer that suggest he could be an NFL head coaching candidate, which seems farfetched, but just goes to show you how respected Kingsbury is as an offensive mind. Fun.
