Rice redshirt senior DT Preston Gordon is transferring to Texas Tech.

Gordon (6'1/289) started the last three years for the Owls, and made his declaration to transfer earlier this winter. He also showed interest in Alabama, Connecticut, Syracuse, Tulane and TCU before ultimately deciding to take his talents to Lubbock. Because he leaves with his degree, he'll be eligible to play immediately for the Red Raider defense.

Ohio State redshirt junior DT Dre'Mont Jones announced that he will enter the 2019 NFL Draft.

Jones is going off to the NFL, but he's got one more game in an Ohio State uniform; as he announced he'll play in the Rose Bowl against Washington. The 6-foot-3, 286-pound defender has been highly productive with the Buckeyes, and finishes 2018 with 8.5 sacks, 13 tackles for loss, and an interception that he returned for a touchdown. This is a loaded defensive tackle class, but Jones still could be a first-round pick because of his inside pass-rushing ability, and he ranks ninth among defensive tackles in Mel Kiper's recently released draft board.

Syracuse announced an extension with HC Dino Babers.

The amount of years and the amount of cash is not known at this time, nor is the buyout. Syracuse does announce in their statement that it's a "long-term" extension, but that doesn't offer much information. Babers went 4-8 in his first two years at Syracuse after coming over from Bowling Green, but he took the program to a 9-3 season; with two of those losses coming to playoff teams Notre Dame and Clemson. He was a speculative coach at several of the bigger openings, and this is the payoff.

Oklahoma HC Lincoln Riley told reporters on Wednesday that it's "too early" to know if junior WR Marquise Brown can play against Alabama on December 29.

Brown has been "limited" in practice after leaving the Big-12 Championship Game win over Texas on December 1 with the foot injury. ""Still too early," Riley said of Brown's status. "Working through it. It's not a definite no, not a definite yes. We're hopeful, but he hasn't done much to this point." It'd be a big loss for the Sooners, as Brown has put up a line of 75/1,318/10 for the 12-1 Sooners. We should know more in the coming weeks.

Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel reports that Temple is in the process of finalizing a deal with Miami DC Manny Diaz to fill their open head-coaching position.

The Owls are looking to fill the vacancy left behind by former HC Geoff Collins, who earlier accepted the lead position at Georgia Tech. Texas A&M DC Mike Elko and Michigan DC Don Brown were two other candidates who had emerged in this coaching search, but it would appear that Temple sees Diaz as their man. His defense clocked in as the No. 15 scoring defense in the country for the 2018 season. Should this deal come through with the Owls, it would represent Diaz's first shot at a head-coaching job.

Las Vegas will host the 2020 NFL Draft.

This will be the first time that Las Vegas has ever hosted the draft. It coincides with the Raiders' upcoming move to Sin City. Vegas will be the fourth different city to host the draft in as many years. This spring's draft of the 2019 rookie class will be held in Nashville.

Michigan dismissed sophomore RB O'Maury Samuels.

The Wolverines did not offer specifics as to why Samuels was being dismissed, but this would appear to stem from a Dec. 8 incident which involved the University of Michigan police. According to court records, the sophomore back is currently facing misdemeanor charges of domestic violence and malicious destruction of property. He appeared in court on Wednesday and has another appearance scheduled for Dec. 27. Samuels has not been an integral part of UM's offense since signing on with the program as a four-star recruit in the 2017 class. He took a total of 21 carries in his two years in Ann Arbor.

SMU redshirt junior QB Ben Hicks will transfer as a graduate.

Hicks (6'2/220) informed HC Sonny Dykes of his intention to transfer earlier in the week. He ends his career at SMU as the program's all-time leader in a multitude of categories, including passing yardage (9,081 yards) and passing touchdowns (71). His high-water mark at SMU came in 2017, when he threw for 3,569 yards with a 33/12 TD/INT ratio. It was something of a struggle for him in his lone year in Dykes' Air Raid, as his yardage total, YPA and touchdown tally all took notable drops off that stellar 2017 showing.

Memphis junior RB Darrell Henderson declared for the 2019 NFL Draft.

Henderson (5'9/200) crushed the 2018 campaign, rushing for 1,909 yards and 22 touchdowns -- the touchdown tally tied the FBS record -- while averaging a silly 8.9 YPC. He's as smooth a runner as there is in the country, though The Draft Network's Kyle Crabbs notes that Henderson "[d]oes not necessarily have an elite physical trait: is tough, but not a power back," adding that he has "some burst, but doesn’t have top shelf speed." Crabbs also wonders on Henderson's durability, as we've yet to see him take a true workhorse's carry load. He ends his Memphis career having taken just 431 carries. Of course, the positive offshoot to this is that Henderson will enter the NFL with barely any tread worn off the metaphorical tires. His draft process will be a very interesting one to watch coming off an electric season.

The Athletic's Bruce Feldman reports that Michigan DC Don Brown interviewed for the open head-coaching position at Temple on Tuesday.

The Owls were reportedly also interested in Texas A&M DC Mike Elko, but Elko now looks like he will be sticking with the Aggies for the coming campaign. Next target up, Brown, it would appear. The UM DC was a finalist for the Broyles Award this past season (an award that ultimately ended up going to Alabama OC Mike Locksley, now head coach at Maryland). He has been building elite defenses at Michigan for the past three seasons. Should Temple finalize a deal with Brown, this would not be his first go-round as a head coach, having previously held the lead position at Plymouth State (1993-95), Northeastern (2000-03) and UMass (2004-08).

Multiple outlets are reporting that Texas A&M DC Mike Elko will remain with the program after interviewing for the open head-coaching position at Temple.

Elko was hired to HC Jimbo Fisher's staff last January after spending the previous year at Notre Dame. In his first season with the program, Texas A&M finished with the nation's No. 58 scoring defense, allowing an average of 26.3 points per game. Elko was the fourth-highest paid assistant in the country in 2018, drawing $1.8 million. As for where Temple might turn for their next head coach now that Elko is out of the picture, The Athletic's Bruce Feldman reports that Michigan DC Don Brown interviewed with the Owls on Tuesday.

Minnesota senior LB Blake Cashman will not play in the Quick Lane Bowl.

Cashman (6'2/235) is the second Gopher opting to sit out, joining teammate Donnell Greene. Greene has already signed with an agent and couldn't play even if he reversed course on his decision. For his part, senior Cashman makes for a significant loss. He took a quantum leap forward in his production during his final season with the Gophers, registering 104 tackles (15.0 for loss), 2.5 sacks, five passes defended across 12 games played. Even beyond the losses of Cashman and Greene, Minnesota could be working with something of a skeleton crew come the Quick Lane Bowl against Georgia Tech, as Andy Greder of the Twin Cities Pioneer Press reported on Tuesday that a "handful" of Gophers (names have yet to come to light) were going to be suspended for the contest.
