Chris Simms believes Louisville's Lamar Jackson is the top QB prospect in the 2018 class.

"Jackson is a legit pocket passer and decision maker," Simms states, adding the quarterback is exiting a pro-style offense. Simms also praises Jackson's quick release and believes some of the quarterback's best throws turned out to be incomplete due to drops. Every quarterback offers a different set of skills, so the rankings of the prospects likely relies on what flavor you like. Jackson is a big play threat with his arm and legs.

Iowa junior QB Nathan Stanley will return to school for his senior season.

This isn't a big surprise, but it's welcome news for the Hawkeyes. Stanley took some big step forwards in 2018, and threw for 23 touchdowns with nine interceptions in his junior year. That 58.3 completion percentage still leaves a lot to be desired, and consistency has been an issue for the 6-foot-4, 242-pound signal-caller. A strong showing as a senior could see Stanley as a potential Day 2 pick in 2020.

Notre Dame HC Brian Kelly was named the AP Coach of the Year.

Kelly takes home the award over fellow finalists Josh Heupel of UCF and Nick Saban of Alabama. It's the second Coach of the Year honor for the 57-year-old, as he won the Hope Depot Coach of the Year award in on December 5. The plaudits are deserved; Kelly lead the Irish to a 12-0 season and an appearance in the College Football Playoff against Clemson in a year where most prognosticators expected eight-to-nine wins.

Freshman QB Jack Tuttle is transferring to Indiana.

Tuttle announced that he would transfer in October after signing on as a four-star commitment last December. This is potentially a huge get for the Hoosiers, as the 6-foot-3, 210-pound quarterback had offers from some some of the more high-profile schools. He'll have to sit out the 2019 season unless he gets a waiver, but he'll have three more years of eligibility left since he didn't play for the Utes in 2018.

Michigan received a verbal commitment from four-star 2019 LB Anthony Solomon, who had previously been committed to Miami.

The raid on Mark Richt's class continues. Miami has seen their class decimated with flips as of late, and Solomon is one of the biggest to lose. The 6-foot, 190-pound outside linebacker will obviously need to put on wait to stay at the position, but his quick first step and quality range make him one of the most intriguing linebackers in the 2019 group. The 247 Sports composite rankings put him 10th at the outside linebacker position, and 190th overall.

Michigan senior DE/OLB Chase Winovich has been Pro Football Focus' No. 1 graded EDGE defender in the Big 10 this season.

Pro Football Focus gives Winovich top-three marks in total stops (37, 2nd), total pressures (50, 3rd), and pass-rush grade (90.0, 2nd). With those advanced metrics, Winovich easily earned an invitation to the Reese's Senior Bowl and he'll be a highly analyzed prospect heading into the 2019 NFL Draft. Winovich (6'3/255) will be off the board sometime during Day 1 or Day 2, and NFL teams will certainly love his leadership.

USF redshirt junior QB Black Barnett (shoulder/lower body) has shed his walking boot.

Barnett is dealing with shoulder and lower body injuries, but it appears that his lower body injury is improving since he was spotted in sandals on Sunday. The Bulls play in the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl on Thursday, and this update at least gives him a chance at playing, but it's still up in the air. USF's chances of beating Marshall improve with Barnett at quarterback, so it's a situation worth monitoring.
Dec 16 - 2:57 PM

Middle Tennessee senior QB Brent Stockstill completed 25-of-37 passes for 330 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in Saturday's 45-13 bowl loss to Appalachian State.

Stockstill was constantly under pressure, so it took a valiant effort and a positive mindset to rack up the 330 yards tonight. It wasn't the ending the Stockstill family wanted -- his father is the Blue Raiders coach -- but it was quite the career for the senior quarterback. Stockstill threw 106 touchdowns across 3.5 seasons at Middle Tennessee State with three 3,200-yard campaigns. With that much production, Stockstill has a shot at getting NFL looks but his planned future is to get into the coaching business. For the Blue Raiders (8-6), the 2019 season will likely be a re-building year as they look for a quarterback.
Dec 16 - 12:43 AM

Appalachian State redshirt sophomore RB Darrynton Evans rushed for 108 yards on 14 carries in Saturday's 45-13 bowl win over Middle Tennessee State.

Evans (5'11/185) will finish his sophomore season with a four-game 100-yard streak. In tonight's bowl game, the redshirt sophomore was elusive, as usual, averaging 7.7 yards per attempt. However, the Mountaineers used trickery to score their touchdowns tonight leaving Evans empty handed in that category, but Evans did score eight total touchdowns during his breakout season. With quarterback Zac Thomas returning as well, the Appalachian State (11-2) offense will head into 2019 with higher expectations than usual. Evans will look to make it back-to-back seasons with at least 1,000 rushing yards.
Dec 16 - 12:19 AM

Appalachian State redshirt sophomore QB Zac Thomas completed 15-of-24 passes for 177 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions in Saturday's 45-13 bowl win over Middle Tennessee State.

Appalachian State was in full control of this game after scoring a 30-yard touchdown on a trick play in the second quarter. After that score, Thomas piled on by throwing for three touchdowns and by catching an eight-yard touchdown on another trick play. Thomas certainly was the MVP of the game, and it's a great game to go out on for the Mountaineers, who should end up being a top-25 team after bowl season ends. Since Thomas is only a redshirt sophomore, the Mountaineers (11-2) will head into 2019 with a quality quarterback -- Thomas finished with 32 total touchdowns and six interceptions -- and with high expectations.
Dec 16 - 12:12 AM

Texas A&M received a verbal commitment from four-star 2019 JUCO CB Elijah Blades.

Blades (6'2/170) committed to Oregon back in July, but he had a change of heart and will join the Aggies. The lengthy corner comes from Arizona Western College, but analysts believe Blades has a shot at playing in the NFL as soon as 2020. Of course, this is a huge win for Texas A&M and a big loss for Oregon, but at least Oregon received a commitment from the No. 1 recruit in the country earlier today.
Dec 15 - 10:14 PM

Eastern Michigan redshirt junior QB Mike Glass completed 17-of-25 passes for 204 yards and three scores in a 23-21 loss to Georgia Southern on Saturday in the Camellia Bowl.

Glass got off to a rough start, but he really played well down the stretch, and it looked like he made the play off the game when he found Arthur Jackson for a 10-yard touchdown with just 3:33 left to give the Eagles their first lead of the game at 21-20. Unfortunately, the defense couldn't hold the potent Georgia Southern rushing attack. Glass was hit-and-miss in 2018, but he did show promise with the Eagles, and he should be the favorite to win the starting job in 2019.
