The NCAA has denied the appeal of LSU DB Kristian Fulton in regards to his two-year suspension for violation of the governing body's drug program.

Fulton (6'1/195) is halfway home on his suspension, having already sat out the 2017 season in accordance with the NCAA's ruling. All of this was brought down on the defensive back's head due to his allegedly tampering with a drug-testing sample. While his appeal has failed, Fulton and family will try one more avenue, with a waiver request to the governing body. He might just be out of options here when it comes to potentially returning in 2018. LSU HC Ed Orgeron has previously stated that Fulton would be in competition to start if reinstated -- Coach O has praised his practice habits while he's been out of action -- but barring that, we'll likely be looking at some combination of Terrence Alexander, Kelvin Joseph, Kary Vincent, Jontre Kirklin and Mannie Netherly working in rotation opposite elite CB Greedy Williams.

Alabama redshirt junior T Matt Womack underwent surgery on Friday after breaking a bone in his foot on Thursday.

Womack's father told ESPN's Alex Scarborough it's the same bone that caused Womack to miss all of spring practices. He also told Scarborough that surgery went well, but that the 6-foot-7, 324-pound tackle will miss "several weeks" while he recovers. Alex Leatherwood and Jedrick Wills will likely compete for the starting spot while he's out -- Womack was not a lock to be the starter to the start the season, anyway -- against Louisville on September 1.

Auburn received a verbal commitment from four-star 2019 ATH Zion Puckett.

Puckett was also known to be considering Stanford and Notre Dame, and he also took official visits to Ohio State, Georgia Tech and South Carolina. He's been recruited to play both wide receiver and play corner, but it sounds like Puckett (6'0/195) will start on the defensive side of the football. With plus speed and a quality frame, he could be an outside player at the position for the Tigers, with enough shiftiness to cover in the slot if necessary. The commit gives Auburn 15 commits for 2019, and they now rank 10th nationally in 247 Sports rankings.

Louisville HC Bobby Petrino guaranteed that his team would defeat Alabama in their season-opener.

"I believe we're gonna go beat them. And we will go beat them," Petrino said. This is not the first bit of trash talking that we've heard from the Cardinals, who are seemingly attempting to talk themselves into competitiveness. Realistically, that opener is probably going to get out of hand relatively early. Louisville is not only working in a new starting quarterback in Jawon "Puma" Pass, their defense is likely to be a work-in-progress (charitably put) throughout the season.

Nebraska HC Scott Frost said that he and his staff have not yet settled on a starting quarterback for the coming season.

Frost tossed off the ol' "if the season started today, two would play" line on Friday, with the pair of combatants in question being true freshman Adrian Martinez and redshirt freshman Tristan Gebbia. We don't truly expect him to roll with two quarterbacks to any significant degree in-season, as Frost already said in late July that he hoped to have a starter set in stone with about a week to go before the Huskers kick off their season against Akron on Sept. 1.

Tennessee received a verbal commitment from four-star 2019 S Jaylen McCollough.

McCollough's pledge was going to have an SEC flavor to it even had he not sided with the Volunteers, as his other three finalists were South Carolina, Auburn and Alabama. With the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder now in Tennessee's corner, HC Jeremy Pruitt is up to 19 pledges for the class. Four of those come from defensive backs. While McCullough was actually first offered by Tennessee back in 2016, when the team was helmed by Butch Jones, it's Pruitt -- who himself was recruiting him while at Georgia -- and company who got this one done. On the 247Sports composite board, McCullough checks in as the No. 131 overall prospect in the 2019 class.

LSU redshirt freshman QB Lowell Narcisse transferred to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

Narcisse was one of two quarterbacks who bid farewell to the Tigers this week, with Justin McMillan announcing his own intent to transfer shortly after the redshirt freshman. As Narcisse is dropping down to the JUCO ranks, he'll be eligible to play immediately during the coming campaign. Presumably, the 6-foot-3, 224-pound Narcisse will look to bounce back into the FBS over the winter. With Narcisse and McMillan both no longer in the LSU fold, we expect OSU transfer Joe Burrow to start for the coming campaign.

Pitt sophomore WR Taysir Mack was granted an NCAA waiver for immediate eligibility.

Mack (6'2/200) transferred to Pitt from Indiana over the winter. It's not known specifically why this particular waiver has been granted, but regardless of the circumstance, this could end up serving as a boon for the Panthers. As a true freshman last season, Mack caught 23 passes for 310 yards and three touchdowns while starting eight games. He profiles as Pitt's most intriguing receiving option for the coming campaign now that he's free and clear of NCAA bureaucracy.

Ohio State president Michael Drake said that the school's investigation into HC Urban Meyer will be "finished when it's finished."

The expectation was that this investigation -- begun on Aug. 5 -- would take two weeks to conclude. On that timetable, this coming Sunday would see the inquiry into Meyer's action/inaction with deposed WR coach Zach Smith wrapped. Don't hold your breath on that, though. Explained Drake, "The most important thing is to get good information so we can make the right decisions going forward." There might not be a hard and fast deadline on this investigation, but there is one notable deadline that will not be changing -- the Buckeyes will open the 2018 campaign against Oregon State on Sept. 1, with or without Meyer. Ohio State OC Ryan Day will continue to function as acting head coach so long as Meyer's out on administrative leave.

Georgia freshman TE Luke Ford was involved in a minor motorcycle accident on Thursday morning.

The incident occurred at about 10:30 AM, when Ford lost control of the motorcycle. No other parties were involved in the accident and the freshman tight end was the one who ultimately ended up reporting it to authorities. He did suffer a right foot injury and was subsequently taken into the hospital for treatment. There does not appear to be any serious health issue in play, here, and unless information surfaces to the contrary, the 6-foot-7, 247-pound true freshman should be available for Georgia's opener against Austin Peay on Sept. 1. Ford was the top tight end prospect in the country for the past cycle.

Sun Belt commissioner Karl Benson will retire when his contract runs out on June 30.

Benson said in a statement that he has "labored over this decision for several months." He will stay on for just under another calendar year before passing the torch to the Sun Belt's next overseer. He's held his current post since 2012 after earlier serving as commissioner for both the WAC (1994-2012) and MAC (1990-94). Expect word on a potential successor in the months ahead.

AL.com's Matt Zenitz reports that Alabama sophomore RB Najee Harris (foot) could miss upwards of two weeks.

Harris (6'2/230) sustained a foot injury during Saturday's scrimmage. While we still don't have the full picture in terms of the exact nature of that injury, his timetable has now come into focus courtesy of Zenitz. The locked-in Bama beat writer passes along that the sophomore back has a "good chance" to suit up against Louisville in the team's opener on Sept. 1. Damien Harris and Joshua Jacobs would handle the bulk of carries versus the Cardinal if Najee can't give it a go in just over two weeks.
