Texas Tech redshirt sophomore QB Jett Duffey's brother wrote to social media that the quarterback would be starting against TCU on Thursday.

Coming out of the bye, the Red Raiders are dealing with a somewhat tenuous quarterbacking situation. Week 1 starter McLane Carter (ankle) has now missed over a month, while true freshman star-in-making Alan Bowman is recovering from a collapsed lung. They were deemed questionable and doubtful, respectively, in advance of Thursday's game. Enter Jett Duffey, who filled in for Bowman against West Virginia two weekends ago, finishing that game with 127 yards passing, a touchdown and two interceptions, plus 86 rushing yards. Duffey could put up nice numbers on Thursday now that he's had a bit more time to prepare for what will be his first collegiate start.

Following Saturday's win at Tennessee, Alabama HC Nick Saban said that sophomore QB Tua Tagovailoa (knee) could have returned to the game if needed.

Tagovailoa left Saturday's game in the second half due to the knee issue, but as was the case in the Crimson Tide's October 13 win over Missouri the game was well in hand by that point. Tagovailoa will now have some extra time to rest, as Alabama's next game isn't until November 3 at LSU. And if there are nay lingering issues for the sophomore Heisman Trophy candidate, Alabama can always turn to junior Jalen Hurts.
Oct 20 - 8:13 PM

Texas Tech freshman QB Alan Bowman (lung) was 36-of-46 for 408 yards with four touchdowns and an interception in Saturday's 48-16 victory over Kansas.

Now, we know he was playing Kansas. But Bowman is a true freshman who suffered a collapsed lung against West Virginia on Sept. 29. To return in less than a month to record his second-career 400/4+ game is quite incredible. He's thrown for 2,088 yards and 15 touchdowns already despite missing the equivalent of over two full games due to injury, getting pulled early (in blowouts), or not starting (the opener). In other words, the equivalent of just less than five full games. Wowza.
Oct 20 - 8:10 PM

Penn State redshirt senior QB Trace McSorley completed 19-of-36 passes for 220 yards and an interception while rushing for 107 yards and two touchdowns on 19 attempts in Saturday's 33-28 win over Indiana.

On a windy day in Bloomington, McSorley was not able to get much of anything going through the air. As he's done in several games this season, though, he made up for his lackluster work as a passer via a strong effort rushing. This was his second 100-yard rushing game of the campaign and his third of at least 90 yards. For reference's sake, McSorley did not better 65 yards on the ground in a game last season. Of course, he also threw 28 touchdown passes in 2017. He's currently sitting on just 11 scoring tosses in 2018.
Oct 20 - 8:09 PM

Houston junior QB D'Eriq King completed 25-of-38 passes for 413 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday's 49-36 win over Navy.

King also led the Cougars in rushing with 56 yards and an additional touchdown on seven carries. Are you ready for this stat? After today's game, King has multiple passing touchdowns and at least one rushing touchdown in all seven games this season. He also has at least four total touchdowns in 6-of-7 games and 32 touchdowns in total. The USF defense will try to slow down King next Saturday.
Oct 20 - 8:06 PM

Minnesota freshman QB Zack Annexstad (midsection) was taken to a hospital following Saturday's loss at Nebraska.

Minnesota HC P.J. Fleck said following the game that Annexstad was expected to be released soon, which may bode well for the quarterback from a diagnosis standpoint. The freshman signal-caller left Saturday's game on two separate occasions, with Tanner Morgan serving as his replacement. If the injury were to sideline Annexstad for Minnesota's next game, October 26 against Indiana, Morgan would get the nod.
Oct 20 - 7:52 PM

Nebraska freshman QB Adrian Martinez completed 25-of-29 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 125 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 53-28 victory over Minnesota.

The story from today will be Scott Frost's first victory at Nebraska. That's not the real story. Not the most important thing. The most important thing was watching Martinez do his best McKenzie Milton impersonation. This was by far and away the best game of his young career. Nebraska may be 1-6, but the folks in Lincoln can rest easy tonight. The future looks bright. Remember: This was only the sixth game of A-Mart's career. Get excited. This was a Minnesota defense that hung tough against Ohio State last week.
Oct 20 - 7:51 PM

NC State senior QB Ryan Finley completed 21-of-34 passes for 156 yards and two interceptions in Saturday's 41-7 loss to No. 3 Clemson.

NFL scouts aren't going to love what they saw from Finley (6'4/199) in this one. Of course Clemson's defense is no joke, but first-round quarterback prospects should look better than how Finley looked on Saturday. The Athletic's Dane Brugler said, "There is plenty of blame to go around on this NCST offense, but his limitations are clear in this game." His draft stock took a hit today, but he's still on pace for his third straight 3,000 yard season. The Wolfpack will travel to Syracuse next Saturday.
Oct 20 - 7:47 PM

Missouri redshirt sophomore TE Albert Okwuegbunam brought in six passes for 159 yards and three scores in a 65-33 crushing of Memphis on Saturday.

The Memphis defense had no answer for Okwuegbunam (6'5/255), as he was consistently wide open over the middle of the field. The redshirt sophomore continues to be hit-and-miss in the 2018 season, but the talent is obvious. The Tigers need to get the ball in his hands more often if they are going to go bowling at the end of the 2018 season. A big game comes next Saturday for Okwuegbunam and Missouri against Kentucky.
Oct 20 - 7:43 PM

Minnesota junior WR Tyler Johnson caught 11 passes for 184 yards in Saturday's 53-28 loss to Nebraska.

Johnson is flat out one of the nation's most underrated receivers. He consistently produces despite mediocre quarterback play and despite consistently facing the opponent's CB1 and/or double teams. Johnson now has 100-yard showings in five of seven games this year.
Oct 20 - 7:43 PM

Washington senior RB Myles Gaskin, who missed Saturday's win over Colorado with a shoulder injury, is not expected to miss much time.

Following the win Washington HC Chris Peterson said "we'll get him back soon" when asked about Gaskin's status moving forward. What qualifies as "soon" is the question, with Washington having two more games to play (at California, Stanford at home) before its November 10 bye week. The Huskies called upon three options at running back in Gaskin's absence Saturday, with Salvon Ahmed, Sean McGrew and Kamari Pleasant all getting at least nine carries against Colorado.
Oct 20 - 7:36 PM

Missouri senior QB Drew Lock completed 23-of-29 passes for 350 yards with four touchdowns in a 65-33 blowout win over Memphis on Saturday.

A much better effort for Lock on Saturday than the one he had against Alabama, but -- spoiler alert -- Memphis isn't quite as good as Alabama is. Still, this was a nice reminder that the senior signal-caller isn't bereft of talent, and if this game was close it could have been an even bigger effort. He was accurate, on-time, and didn't turn the football over. Again, however, it was against a Memphis defense that leaves a lot -- a lot -- to be desired. A much tougher contest comes next Saturday against Kentucky.
